Man killed by NYPD after barricading himself inside Brooklyn hospital with sharp object, police say

New York Police Department Officer Shoots Man After He Barricades Himself in Brooklyn Hospital.

A dramatic standoff unfolded outside NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on Thursday evening, when an NYPD officer shot and killed a man who had barricaded himself inside the hospital with a sharp object. The violent confrontation took place after multiple 911 calls reported a man armed with a knife wreaking havoc inside the eighth-floor room.

Hospital staff initially alerted police to the danger, describing the man as extremely violent and having cut himself with the sharp object in an attempt to harm two others – including an elderly patient and hospital security personnel. Upon arrival, officers found extensive blood splattered throughout the room and outside the door, prompting a tense standoff.

According to Assistant Chief Charles Minch, police repeatedly deployed their Tasers without success before ultimately resorting to using force after the man advanced towards them. However, details of how many times the officer fired remain unclear, as well as where exactly he struck the man. The type of weapon the suspect was allegedly holding remains under investigation.

The incident ended with the suspect pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the scene. Police collected evidence from the area and recovered a sharp object that had been used in the attack. Footage captured by citizens on their smartphones showed an overwhelming police presence outside the hospital as authorities worked to piece together the events of Thursday's tragic confrontation.

πŸ€• just saw this news and I'm literally shaking my head...can't even imagine being in that situation πŸ™ˆ. My heart goes out to the family of the guy who lost his life, it's such a tragedy πŸ˜”. And for the elderly patient and hospital security personnel who were supposed to be safe... 😩. The cops did what they thought was necessary, but can you imagine having to deal with that kind of situation every day? 🀯 It just makes me wanna hug everyone in the city right now πŸ€—. And the fact that there's still so much uncertainty about what exactly happened is super unsettling πŸ•°οΈ. Hopefully, it'll lead to some changes in how these situations are handled πŸ’‘

Ugh, can you believe this dude was wielding a knife and causing chaos? 🀯 Like what's next? Knives out in Central Park? πŸ˜‚ I'm glad no one else got hurt, but seriously, why do people even do this? Are hospitals now just open playtime for lunatics? πŸ€” And honestly, who needs that much ammo on a Taser? πŸ’β€β™€οΈ It's like they're trying to give him a free game of "dodge the police" πŸ˜‚. Anyway, hope the officers involved are chillin' and don't have PTSD issues or anything... πŸ‘Š

😟🚨 this is getting outta control 🀯, first hospitals get turned into crime scenes and now we're seeing officers resorting to deadly force πŸ’€ on people who are already struggling mentally or physically... it's like the system is failing them at every turn πŸ•°οΈ. and what about all those paramedics and EMTs who see this stuff day in and day out? do they get any support or just told to 'stay calm' πŸ˜’? this isn't just a NYC problem, it's a national issue that needs serious attention πŸ“Š.

Man, this is wild 🀯... I mean, it's not like we don't see enough crazy stuff happening in hospitals, but barricading yourself and waving a sharp object at people? That's just not something you can prepare for on the fly 😬. And to think they had to call in an officer with a gun because hospital staff were already scared πŸ˜•... It's just one of those situations where nothing is going as planned, right?

I'm glad no one else got hurt, but at the same time, I don't know if taking down someone in a standoff like that has to be so violent πŸ’”. There must be some way for them to subdue someone without having to pull out a gun πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Still, it's not my place to question how cops do their job... just glad the suspect is no longer a threat πŸ‘Š

omg this is so crazy like what was going thru his mind to barricade himself in a hospital with no clear reason 🀯 and those cops were literally at a loss for how to handle it, i feel bad for them having to deal with something like that πŸ˜” but i also cant help but wonder what kinda life this guy had to make him resort to such things, was he feeling hopeless or suicidal? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ the whole thing is just so sad and violent πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ anyways i hope the police are doing their thing to figure out what happened and get some answers πŸ’‘

omg this is soooo disturbing 🀯 like how did it even come 2 this?! some guy barricadin himself in a hospital & then an offsr shoots him 😩 cant believe wat happnd tho. police were called cuz of multiple 911 calls about the guy w/ a knife n stuff. sounds like its a real mess over ther now πŸ€• hospital staff told them he was super violent & had cut himself with a sharp thingy, didnt wanna hurt nobody tho πŸ™ but wat if ppl dont just calm down n talk 2 each othr?

man this is just so sad πŸ€•... i mean i get why they gotta protect everyone but can't we all just chill for a sec? πŸ™ like what even led him to barricade himself in there with that sharp object? was it really worth losin life over? πŸ€” and the fact that police didn't know how many times they shot him is super sketchy... doesn't seem right πŸ” hope they get to the bottom of this and find out what happened πŸ’‘

idk why ppl r making such a big deal outta dis... officer did wot he cud do 2 save lives, esp after the guy was armn with a sharp obj... all those 911 calls & hospital staff warnings didnt seem 2 stop him from attacking others tho... might b some questions 2 answer abt wht went rong but let's not be too quick 2 judge or demand 2 much accountability frm the officer

just read about this crazy situation in Brooklyn 🀯! what was going through that guy's mind to barricade himself in a hospital with a sharp object πŸ˜•? i feel for the patients and security personnel who had to deal with the chaos... it's so sad that things escalated to violence πŸ’”. police departments gotta do their job, but at what cost? πŸ’€πŸ’ͺ somehow we need to find ways to de-escalate these situations without resorting to force πŸ™. hope they're doing a thorough investigation and providing support to those affected by this incident 🀝 #JusticeForAll #PoliceReformNow #MentalHealthMatters
