Man Utd 2-0 Man City: Pep Guardiola refuses to blame officials after loss

Manchester United have kicked off Michael Carrick's tenure as interim head coach with a resounding 2-0 win over Manchester City, giving their neighbours a winning start to the new era at Old Trafford. The Citizens were outfought by the Red Devils, who ran them ragged throughout the match.

Guardiola refused to blame officials after the defeat, saying that "the better team won" and that they simply didn't have enough energy. He also stated that City were predictable and couldn't defend in the final third. The Manchester United midfielder Bryan Mbeumo scored the opening goal before Patrick Dorgu sealed the win with a second.

The loss was City's sixth game in 17 days, and it leaves them clinging to the title race by a thread, potentially falling nine points behind leaders Arsenal. The Citizens' expected goal (xG) rate of 0.45 in the contest was the second lowest recorded under Guardiola's tenure in the Premier League.

Former Premier League official Darren Cann thought Diogo Dalot was "very fortunate" to escape a red card after a reckless challenge on Jeremy Doku, but VAR ruled it as a yellow card. Ex-England striker Alan Shearer also felt that VAR got the decision wrong, saying it should have been a clear red card.

United boss Michael Carrick said he had not seen the incident but thought Dalot simply kicked the ball out of the way. However, City's lack of energy and inability to switch the point of attack were major issues throughout the match.

This defeat leaves Manchester United on top of the Premier League table after a thrilling start under their new interim head coach Michael Carrick.

man this is like when lucas from stranger things saved his friends in that epic battle against theUpside Down, you feel? city just got completely outrun and outsmarted by united, it's like pep guardiola's team was stuck in a never-ending loop of losing ๐Ÿ”„๐Ÿ˜ฌ. i think diogo dalot dodged a bullet with that yellow card though, who knows what could've happened if it was red ๐Ÿ”ฅ. anyways, carrick is off to a flying start, reminds me of when samwise gamgee found the one ring for frodo in lord of the rings, he's got some magic up his sleeve โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฎ

I'm so hyped about Manchester United's win lol ๐Ÿคฉ, but I gotta say, City was totally outmaneuvered by United ๐Ÿ’ช. I mean, you can't just blame it on the refs, Pep knows that ๐Ÿ˜’. City looked so drained after that crazy 17-game schedule and they couldn't even keep up with United's pace ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I'm loving Michael Carrick's starting lineup btw ๐Ÿ‘, Bryan Mbeumo was a beast in midfield ๐Ÿ”ฅ. And can we talk about how Diogo Dalot got away with that reckless challenge ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ? I know VAR made the right call (for once) ๐Ÿคž, but it was super close! Anyway, United's on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and this win has them top of the league - bring it on season ๐Ÿ˜.

lol what a difference a day makes ๐Ÿคฏ Manchester City just got thrashed by Manchester United at Old Trafford and now they're looking super worried about their title hopes ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I mean, 9 points behind Arsenal? that's a big gap to close, especially with City playing in back-to-back games against tough teams like United and Liverpool. ๐Ÿ’ฅ what happened to Guardiola's team? they looked so out of energy ๐Ÿคฏ and predictable, you know? the final third just wasn't clicking for them ๐Ÿ˜ but hey, at least Carrick got a good win under his belt, right? ๐Ÿ‘ now it'll be interesting to see how City bounce back from this one...

looks like mcmhaffey is finally biting dust ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ธ guess all that drama about him being "the best" manager in england didn't translate to on-field success... or lack thereof ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ugh, 30 minutes in and I'm already getting tired of reading about the drama surrounding that VAR decision ๐Ÿ™„. Can't we just focus on the actual match for once? It's not like it's the first time someone has gotten a questionable call, but somehow it always seems to be making headlines now ๐Ÿ˜’. And what's with all these pundits analyzing every single detail of the game? Can't they just give their opinions without breaking them down into tiny little parts? ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, I know I'm a critic and all, but come on, can we not get too caught up in the hype? โšฝ๏ธ

lol @ Pep Guardiola, sounds like his team was running on fumes... literally! 6 games in 17 days is crazy, I feel like I've been working non-stop for weeks and my productivity is tanking . City's xG rate of 0.45? That's lower than a teenager's attention span ๐Ÿคฃ. Maybe they should just start calling themselves the "City Strugglers" now ๐Ÿ˜‚. On a more serious note, Diogo Dalot was lucky to not get sent off, but at least VAR got it right... this time ๐Ÿ˜…. United's win is sweet, but let's see how long they can keep this momentum going before they hit the wall ๐Ÿฐ.

Ugh I'm so glad Man U is doing well under Michael Carrick ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป! I mean, City was really lacking energy and it showed in the game ๐Ÿ˜ด. And can we talk about how Dalot got off scot-free after that reckless challenge on Jeremy Doku? Like, no way he should've just gotten a red card โš ๏ธ. It's like VAR was blind or something! ๐Ÿ™„

But you know who really gets under my skin - Guardiola's excuse that City "couldn't defend in the final third"? Come on, Pep, that's not an excuse, that's just bad coaching ๐Ÿ˜’. And I'm loving how Man U is starting this new era with a win and all that ๐Ÿ’ช. Maybe we'll see some changes around Old Trafford soon? ๐Ÿคž

just saw this match ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚ those man utd players are like a well-oiled machine, really dominant performance against city ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ดโœจ i mean guardiola said they were predictable and couldn't defend in the final third, but it felt like city just couldn't keep up with man u's pace โšก๏ธ what a result for carrick and co! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg man cant believe how good carrick is already? 2-0 win over city is insane! guess you could say city got what was coming to them, all those back-to-back games catching up to them and they just ran out of steam. think it's safe to say we're gonna see a lot more of carrick's tactics now... ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ‘

aww man, that sounds like such a tough loss for city ๐Ÿ˜”... i can imagine how frustrating it must be to get outplayed and not have enough energy ๐Ÿ’”... guardiola seems really down on himself about the game ๐Ÿค•... but you gotta give carrick credit, he's already getting some great results under pressure โšก๏ธ... and yeah, dalot was super lucky with that tackle ๐Ÿ˜…... poor city fans are in a tough spot now ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’”

omg u guys i'm literally shaking from how bad man city is rn they looked so drained and like they didnt wanna play lol i think its crazy that pep doesnt want to blame ref's for his team losing btw i feel bad for dalot tho got some harsh words thrown at him but it was a yellow card lol guess var has ur back this time anywyss man utd is on top and im lowkey loving it ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ‘

OMG 2-0 win over City is like wow ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I'm loving this new era at Old Trafford so much! Carrick's tactics are spot on, the midfield battle was intense and United just dominated the match. Mbeumo's goal was pure class ๐Ÿ’ช Patrick Dorgu's finish was amazing too, he's really coming into form now ๐Ÿคฉ I don't blame Carrick for not commenting on that Dalot incident, VAR can be super dodgy at times ๐Ÿค” but City's lack of energy is a major concern for them. They've been playing non-stop and it shows, they were sluggish throughout the match. United's top spot in the league table is well deserved, let's keep this momentum going! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘Š

OMG u gotta love how good man Utd is rn!!! They absolutely destroyed City lol, 2-0 is no joke! Carrick's doing well so far as an interim coach, his tactics r working and they got the energy too ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ช. City's been on a 17 day game streak which is mental, can't even get a breather ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And those VAR calls tho, Diogo Dalot was lucky to not get red carded ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Guardiola's giving some good quotes but it's clear they were outrun and outplayed by United ๐Ÿ’จ. Utd's on top of the league now and I'm loving every minute of it! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

man this is insane! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ like city just didnt show up, their energy was all over the place and carrick took full advantage ๐Ÿค‘ bryan mbeumo scored a beauty and patrick dorgu sealed the win what a statement game for man u ๐Ÿ’ช i dont think guardiola should be blaming officials at all, they were straight up outplayed ๐Ÿ˜‚ and yeah that diogo dalot challenge was sketchy but var got it right ๐Ÿ‘ carrick is living his best life ๐Ÿ™Œ being top of the table already after one match is just crazy ๐Ÿคฏ

lol what did city expect, 17 games in 3 weeks? they're just burning out man ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ด carrick's got em right where he wants them ๐Ÿ‘Š plus dalot got lucky lol that reckless tackle was gonna be a red card for shooo ๐Ÿ’ฏ

omg, that was a thrashing for City ๐Ÿคฏ! i feel like City just got outplayed in every aspect of the game... energy levels were way off and they couldn't defend properly ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

i'm loving the start to United's new era under Carrick tho ๐Ÿ˜Š. 2-0 win is a great result, especially considering how depleted City looked ๐Ÿ‘€. and yeah, VAR got it wrong with that Diogo Dalot incident ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ... a clear red card imo ๐Ÿ”ด.

anywayz, City's in trouble if they can't get their act together ๐Ÿ’”. 9 points behind Arsenal is huge gap to close ๐Ÿ”ช. United's gonna be all over the news now ๐Ÿ”ฅ, let's see how long they keep it up ๐Ÿคž! ๐Ÿ‘

I'm so sick of these VAR decisions! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ Like, come on, Alan Shearer is a football legend and he knows what's up with those ref rulings? Diogo Dalot's tackle was straight red card material, no doubt about it... but the refs have to be consistent. And another thing, Manchester City are getting absolutely roasted for their lack of energy in that match ๐Ÿคฏ 17 games in 17 days is insane! They can't even keep up with a new team taking over at Old Trafford? Unbelievable. And what's with Guardiola blaming the better team winning? Shouldn't he be more worried about his own squad's performance? ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm lovin' this! ๐Ÿคฉ Manchester United totally deserved that win, they looked so sharp and energetic out there! ๐Ÿ˜Ž It's gonna be tough for City to recover from this one, especially with their tight schedule lately. The energy just wasn't there for them, and it showed on the pitch. ๐Ÿ’ช On a positive note, Michael Carrick is off to a great start as interim head coach, and I think he's got this! ๐Ÿ‘ United fans are finally feeling that sense of hope and excitement again, and it's awesome to see! ๐Ÿ˜Š
