Manchester United pulled off a coup by signing Lea Schüller – so what will she bring?

Manchester United has finally pulled off a coup by luring prolific German striker Lea Schüller to Old Trafford, ending a dismal run of league goalscoring. No Manchester United player has managed to score more than 10 league goals in a single season since the club's promotion to the Women's Super League in 2019.

Schüller is no ordinary player, however. The 28-year-old Germany forward boasts an impressive record with 54 goals in 82 international matches and can spend the best years of her career at United, signing on until June 2029. Former coach Daniel Kraus, who worked with Schüller from a young age, believes she has everything required to be a world-class striker.

"Lea has everything what is needed for a striker," Kraus said. "She's fast, has two great feet, is good in the head and strong." With her impressive attributes, it's no surprise that Manchester United is excited about the prospect of Schüller joining their ranks.

In an interview with MUTV, Schüller expressed her optimism about joining the team, stating that she thinks the way they play football can fit her well. "I'm a very direct player so my strength is speed and headers," she said. "The team looks like it makes many crosses so that's perfect for me."

For those unfamiliar with Schüller, let's take a quick look at her background. Born in Krefeld, Germany, the striker began her playing days at Hülser SV before moving on to Bayern Munich. Although this season found game time harder to come by, it doesn't seem like that will be an issue for Manchester United.

According to Opta data, United are one of the top teams in the Women's Super League when it comes to crosses, with 21.4% of them finding their target. If Schüller can thrive on confidence and exploit this aspect of the team's game, there's cautious optimism that she will help Manchester United achieve success.

With her impressive record, athleticism, and playing style, Lea Schüller is an exciting addition to Manchester United. Can she help turn the club around? Only time will tell, but with Schüller on board, the Red Devils are certainly looking up.
