Mayor Mamdani orders review of NYC shelters for migrants

OMG 🤯 can't believe what's happening in NYC... I feel bad for all those migrants who've been living in these cramped and makeshift facilities for years 😔 they deserve so much better than just being thrown out or stuck with a plan that might not even work 🤷‍♀️ the city should be focusing on finding more permanent solutions, not just closing or renovating shelters after people have already waited months or even years to get help 🕰️ it's about time we prioritize their well-being and find ways to make housing and relocation more accessible and humane ❤️

idk why they're making such a big deal about closing these shelters 🤔... like, people are just trying to get back on their feet after a rough journey, you know? 🤗 it seems kinda harsh to just say ' renovate or close' without giving them some actual options 😩... and what's the plan for the ppl who can't afford rent anyway? 🤑

I'm kinda surprised they're making changes to those migrant shelters now that the migrant numbers have gone down a bit 🤔. I mean, it's not like they were super bad or anything, but I guess some people thought they could be improved upon? Like, who wouldn't want better cooking facilities and stuff for the people living there? It's all about making things more efficient and humane, right? 😊 The city's been trying to figure out a system that works for everyone, so I'm kinda hoping these changes will lead to some good outcomes. Maybe they'll even get some new funding or something 💸👍

I gotta say, it's about time some change happens in those shelters 😊. I mean, we can't keep relying on temporary fixes like hotels and tent camps – that's just not sustainable or humane. The city needs a solid plan to address the migrant crisis, and this executive order is a step in the right direction 🚧.

I'm glad the Legal Aid Society and Coalition for the Homeless are pushing for a more compassionate approach to housing and relocation. We need to focus on providing real support and resources, rather than just trying to fill temporary gaps ⏰.

It's crazy to think about how many shelters we had back at peak – 261?! That's just staggering. And now with only three outside of the traditional system, it's clear that something needs to change 🔄. Let's hope this overhaul leads to better conditions and more effective solutions for those in need ❤️.
