Megadeth: Megadeth review – conspiracy theories and combustible fingers on thrash metallers' curtain call

Megadeth's Farewell Tour: A Thrash Metal Legacy Summarized in a Career-Spanning Album

Dave Mustaine has long been known for his bombastic personality and grandstanding tendencies. This latest decision to disband the band, however, takes the cake. With 28 former members under their belt, contemporary guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari has proven himself well-suited to capture the band's signature technical precision.

The new album effectively serves as a career-spanning retrospective of Megadeth's storied history, spanning thrash metal roots and more radio-friendly pursuits. Tracks such as Tipping Point, Made to Kill, and Let There Be Shred showcase their position as pioneering force in the genre. Even those who might view some of the band's latter work with skepticism can appreciate the musical potency that permeates these selections.

However, problems arise with the second half of the album, which seems weighed down by its own attempts at summarizing Megadeth's legacy. Lyrics and instrumentation that have come to define the band's later output – such as ghostly puppetmasters controlling the world's evils on Obey the Call - come across as less inspired. Meanwhile, The Final Note struggles to balance nostalgic sentiment with Mustaine's increasingly cranky worldview.

The album concludes with a bonus track featuring Metallica's Ride the Lightning, an unexpected choice that raises questions about the motivations behind its inclusion. Is it an attempt to reassert ownership over some of Metallica's early material, or simply another publicity stunt? Whatever the case, it feels undeniably in line with Mustaine's long history of picking fights and stirring controversy.

As the curtain call for Megadeth draws near, their final album stands as a mixed bag – both an affectionate nod to their storied past and a career-spanning retrospective that somewhat stumbles under its own ambition.

man... gotta say, this farewell tour is like a reminder that all good things have to come to an end 🌅 it's like, we've been riding the Megadeth wave for so long, but eventually it's gonna crash and burn... or in this case, get archived as history 📚 anyway, it's cool they're doing one last album - it's like they're putting all their thoughts and feelings into a final chapter of their story... some parts are gonna be iconic, others might feel like filler... but that's life, right? we gotta be okay with the good, bad, and ugly 😊

I'm kinda bummed about Megadeth disbanding 🤕. They've had such a huge influence on the thrash metal scene, it's wild they're not gonna keep making music. The new album is pretty cool tho! They've got some old-school tracks that really show off their technical skills 💻. But at the same time, I can see why some of the later stuff might feel a bit meh... like they're trying too hard to summarize everything they've ever done. And what's up with the bonus Metallica track? 🤔 Is it just a publicity stunt or something deeper going on? I'm also kinda curious about Teemu Mäntysaari - how did he end up fitting in so seamlessly with Megadeth?

I'm kinda feeling meh about this farewell tour thingy 🤔. I mean, 28 former members is insane! It's like they're trying to cover every single moment of Megadeth's history or something. Can't help but think that the album could've been shorter and focused more on the good stuff 😊. Don't get me wrong, it's still a pretty epic collection, but some of those later tracks just don't feel right. The final note kinda falls flat for me 🎸. And what's up with the bonus track? I get why Mustaine would want to stir things up, but was that really necessary? 🤷‍♂️

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're disbanding... I mean, the new album is pretty solid, but some of those later tracks feel like they're trying too hard to be nostalgic. And what's up with the Metallica cover? Like, I get it, Mustaine likes to stir controversy, but is that really necessary here? The whole thing feels a bit rushed and like they're just checking boxes off their farewell tour list 🤔😐

ugh I'm kinda disappointed in this farewell tour lol i mean dont get me wrong megadeth has been an iconic band for decades but come on dave you gotta know when to stop right? all these years and now its like youre just summarizing ur entire career into one album its gonna be hard for new fans 2 appreciate the legacy when its presented in such a condensed form 🤔

🤘 I'm kinda surprised they're disbanding Megadeth after all the epic albums Dave Mustaine had been rippin' out over the years... 🎸

I think it's cool they got Teemu Mäntysaari on guitar, he does sound pretty technical 😎

But, honestly, I kinda feel like they shoulda left some of that old-school thrash metal alone, you know? The new stuff sounds pretty polished, but it loses that raw edge that made Megadeth so legendary in the first place 🤘

And what's up with the bonus track featuring Metallica? Can't they just leave their own legacy alone for once? 😒

omg i'm literally heartbroken lol what's up with the second half tho?? like they're trying to cram too much nostalgia into this one album it feels so rushed & disjointed 🤯 but at the same time u can def feel the love & passion that went into creating these tracks esp "Tipping Point" is EVERYTHING!!! made me wanna mosh in my seat 💥 what's the deal with the bonus track tho? was that just some publicity stunt or did they actually have a chat w/ metallica about it??

omg you guys i just heard the news about megadeths farewell tour 🤯 it's like a bittersweet feeling you know? i've been listening to them since i was a kid my dad used to play their albums all the time and now they're disbanding 😔 but at the same time teemu mantysaari is so talented he should be proud of what he's accomplished 🤘 i'm still trying to get over the fact that they're doing this farewell tour in 2025 like it feels like just yesterday i was in high school listening to "crazy train" on repeat lol anyway back to the album i love the first half it's so nostalgic and they really captured their thrash metal roots 🤘 but then it gets a bit weird with some of the lyrics and instrumentation feeling like they're trying too hard to be nostalgic what do you guys think? should i go see them in concert or is that just weird now 🎸

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're breaking up 😕. I mean, Teemu Mäntysaari is actually pretty talented on guitar 🎸. The album's got some great tracks, like Tipping Point and Made to Kill - that thrash metal stuff's still fire 🔥. But the second half feels a bit meh ⚖️. It's trying too hard to summarize Megadeth's legacy, ya know? And what's up with "The Final Note" 🤔? The lyrics feel kinda forced and it's like Dave's being his usual cranky self 😒. The Metallica bonus track is weird tho... seems like a publicity stunt to me 📺. Can't say I'm gonna miss Megadeth, but they did have some solid stuff 🔊.

oic, what's up with the bonus track from Metallica? seems like just another publicity stunt to me 🤑 is it even fair to include someone else's music in this "farewell" tour? and btw, Teemu Mäntysaari sounds like a solid guitarist, can't wait to check out his work 👍

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one... I mean, 28 former members? That's crazy talk! As for the album, I think it's cool they're doing a career-spanning retrospective, but some of these tracks feel like they're stretching to fit every era of Megadeth's history. Like, what's up with "The Final Note" trying to balance nostalgia and Mustaine's grumpy vibes? It just doesn't quite work 🤔. And that bonus track on Ride the Lightning is weird... I mean, I get why he'd want to include it, but does it really add anything to the album? 🎸 Still, I'm a fan of Megadeth's thrash metal roots, so I'll give 'em props for trying to summarize their legacy in one album 😊.

man, i'm gonna miss megadeth like they were family back in the day 🤘... but you know what's crazy? it feels like just yesterday they were shredding on "rust in peace" 🎸 and now dave mustaine is all about wrapping up that final bow 🎶. don't get me wrong, teemu mäntysaari sounds like a solid dude to keep the technical precision going but... ugh, those latter tracks are just so... predictable 😒... can we go back to "peace sells" and "warheads on foreheads"? 🤦‍♂️

I mean, it's not like Dave Mustaine was gonna do anything else with his life anyway... 28 former members is quite the legacy, right? 🤣 The album's got some great tracks, I'll give him that, but it feels like he just threw a bunch of leftover songs together to milk some nostalgia out of it. And what's up with the bonus track? Did he really think we'd be cool with Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" on Megadeth's album? It's just another way for him to stir up drama and make people talk... 🙄

just listened to megadeth's farewell tour album 🤘 gotta say, it's been a wild ride listening to all the different eras of their music... some tracks like tipping point and made to kill are straight fire 🔥 but the second half feels like they're trying too hard to summarize their entire discography... and what's up with the bonus track featuring metallica's ride the lightning? feels like just another publicity stunt 🤑

omg, cant believe dave mustaine is really disbanding megadeth 🤯 the new album has some amazing tracks tho, like tipping point and made to kill 👏 teemu mäntysaari is literally the real deal on guitar 😎 but idk about the 2nd half... feels like he's trying too hard to summarize their entire discography 🤔 and obey the call does sound kinda cheesy 💀 bonus track featuring metallica's ride the lightning tho? what's going on w that? 👀

Just listened to this new Megadeth album 🤘... it's crazy how much the band has changed over the years! I love how they've stayed true to their thrash metal roots, but at the same time, it's clear they're trying to summarize a 35-year career in just one album. It's like trying to fit all your favorite memories into a single scrapbook 📚... some of it is gonna fall out 🤣. I'm also weirded out by that Metallica bonus track 😏 - feels like a publicity stunt to me, but I guess you never know what goes on behind the scenes 🤐. Overall, it's a nostalgic trip for fans like me who've grown up with Megadeth 🎸... not sure if it's enough to keep the band's legacy alive after they're gone 💔.

I'm kinda surprised they're gonna wrap things up with this farewell tour, gotta feel like it's all about Dave Mustaine trying to cling to the spotlight one last time 🤔💁‍♂️. That bonus track is definitely a weird move, feels like he's trying too hard to stir up some drama 🚨. The album's got some great tracks, don't get me wrong, but that second half kinda feels like it's just repeating what they already did 10 years ago 🎸. On the other hand, I love how Teemu Mäntysaari brings a fresh perspective to the table, he's definitely proven himself as a worthy Megadeth guitarist 👍. Still, can't help but feel like this farewell tour is more about Dave Mustaine's ego than actually saying goodbye 🎭.
