Merlin Welcomes Five New Board Members

Five new faces have been welcomed onto the board of Merlin, a digital rights agency for independent record labels. The addition brings a mix of international experience to the table, as the five new members represent companies based in Nigeria, Portugal, Japan, the UK, and Germany.

Bugwu Aneto-Okeke from Measurable Accurate Digital Solutions (Nigeria), Charles Caldas from Exceleration (Portugal), Manami Ogawa from STARBASE (Japan), Rachel Buswell from Domino (UK), and Sascha Lazimbat from Zebralution (Germany) have been elected as new board members. The elections mark the first changes to the board since Charlie Lexton took over as CEO, succeeding Jeremy Sirota.

The return of Charles Caldas, who founded Merlin in 2007 and stepped down in December 2019, is a welcome development for the organization. His experience will undoubtedly be valuable as he takes up his new role on the board.

In addition to the newly elected members, Dan Waite from Better Noise (UK) and VerΓ³nica Rojas from Casete (Mexico) have been appointed as board observers. Re-elected members include Carlos Mills, Chris Maund, Darius Van Arman, Golda Bitterli, Justin West, Louis Posen, Marie Clausen, Megan Jasper, Pascal Bittard, and Tom Deakin.

The Merlin board is comprised of leaders from 12 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America, and Oceania. Its membership represents tens of thousands of independent record labels, distributors, and rightsholders worldwide, with the organization claiming to represent 15% of the global recorded music market.

I think it's awesome that Merlin is shaking things up by bringing in new faces from around the world 🌎! Charles Caldas' return is a huge win for them, he was a founding member and knows the ins and outs of the industry intimately πŸ’‘. The diversity on the board now will surely bring fresh perspectives to tackle the ever-evolving music landscape 🎢. It's also cool to see some new blood from Nigeria, Portugal, Japan, and Germany joining the mix 🀝!

I'm stoked to see more diversity on the Merlin board 🀩! With new members like Bugwu Aneto-Okeke from Nigeria and Manami Ogawa from Japan, I'm hoping for a fresh perspective to tackle the challenges facing indie labels worldwide πŸŒŽπŸ’».

As an artist myself, it's awesome to see people who get it when it comes to digital rights πŸ‘. Charles Caldas' return is a big deal - his experience as co-founder will undoubtedly bring value to the organization πŸ’ͺ. I'm also excited to see Sascha Lazimbat from Germany and Rachel Buswell from the UK on board πŸŽΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§.

I wonder what the future holds for Merlin now that these new faces are in place πŸ€”? One thing's for sure - more representation means more voices, and maybe we'll finally start seeing some real change πŸ”„πŸ’₯.

πŸ€” so i'm not surprised to see some familiar names getting back on board, but charles caldas' return is definitely a win for merlin πŸŽ‰ he's been out since '19 and it's great to have him back with his experience πŸ’‘ hopefully this mix of new and old blood will bring some fresh ideas to the table πŸ“ˆ i'm also curious to see how veronica rojas from mexico fits into all this, rep for latin america is always welcome 🌎

I'm not surprised they're shakin' things up at Merlin πŸ€”. I mean, it's about time we get some fresh faces on that board. And I love how Charles Caldas is comin' back - that dude knows his stuff and has been doin' this for years. He's like the big cheese, the head honcho, you know? πŸ’Ό Anyway, with these new additions, I'm thinkin' Merlin is gonna be stronger than ever and representin' more labels worldwide. We're talkin' tens of thousands, fam! πŸ“ˆ It's dope to see some diversity on that board too - Nigeria, Portugal, Japan, UK, Germany... the list goes on 🌎. I just hope they don't forget about the Latin American reps... VerΓ³nica Rojas is a great addition, but let's not count out our friends down in Mexico 😊.

I'm still not convinced about this whole digital rights thing... I mean, five new faces on the board is nice and all, but what's changing? Is it just more of the same old power struggles behind the scenes? And let's be real, 15% of the global recorded music market is a pretty vague claim. How do we even verify that number? It sounds like they're trying to spin something that might not be entirely true... πŸ€”πŸ’Έ
