Five new faces have been welcomed onto the board of Merlin, a digital rights agency for independent record labels. The addition brings a mix of international experience to the table, as the five new members represent companies based in Nigeria, Portugal, Japan, the UK, and Germany.
Bugwu Aneto-Okeke from Measurable Accurate Digital Solutions (Nigeria), Charles Caldas from Exceleration (Portugal), Manami Ogawa from STARBASE (Japan), Rachel Buswell from Domino (UK), and Sascha Lazimbat from Zebralution (Germany) have been elected as new board members. The elections mark the first changes to the board since Charlie Lexton took over as CEO, succeeding Jeremy Sirota.
The return of Charles Caldas, who founded Merlin in 2007 and stepped down in December 2019, is a welcome development for the organization. His experience will undoubtedly be valuable as he takes up his new role on the board.
In addition to the newly elected members, Dan Waite from Better Noise (UK) and VerΓ³nica Rojas from Casete (Mexico) have been appointed as board observers. Re-elected members include Carlos Mills, Chris Maund, Darius Van Arman, Golda Bitterli, Justin West, Louis Posen, Marie Clausen, Megan Jasper, Pascal Bittard, and Tom Deakin.
The Merlin board is comprised of leaders from 12 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America, and Oceania. Its membership represents tens of thousands of independent record labels, distributors, and rightsholders worldwide, with the organization claiming to represent 15% of the global recorded music market.
