Microsoft’s first Windows 11 update of 2026 stopped some computers from shutting down

Microsoft has released its first security update for Windows 11 in 2026, but just four days later, it was forced to release an emergency patch due to some serious bugs that were introduced. The bug, which only affected systems running Enterprise or IoT editions of Windows 11 23H2, prevented users from shutting down their computers properly and also caused issues with logging into remote desktop connections.

The company released the emergency update on January 17th after identifying the problems and understanding how they could be solved. In a statement, Microsoft mentioned that some devices equipped with Secure Launch might fail to shut down or hibernate due to these bugs. This issue is limited to Windows 11, version 23H2, which only includes Enterprise and IoT editions.

Microsoft has already released an out-of-band update, designed to fix the problems and provide a solution for affected users. The updated list of products that were impacted by this issue now includes Windows 10, version 22H2 ESU, as well as multiple platforms such as remote connection applications on Windows 11, 25H2; Windows Server 2025.

ugh i just got a new laptop with windows 11 and it's been a nightmare so far 🤦‍♂️ Microsoft needs to get their act together, releasing an emergency patch just four days after the initial security update is crazy 😅 what's going on? are they not testing these things before hitting the public? i mean i know bugs happen but this is just frustrating, especially with devices like mine that can't even shut down properly 🚫

ugh, what's going on with Microsoft 🤦‍♂️? First they release an update, and then just a few days later, they gotta come out with another one because of some major issues 😩. Four-day turnaround is crazy! They say it's only affecting Enterprise and IoT editions, but that's not exactly reassuring... I mean, what else can go wrong, right? 🤔 And it's not just the users who are affected, it's also their remote desktop connections - that's a major pain point for some people. Microsoft is being pretty proactive about fixing this though, releasing an emergency patch and updating the list of impacted products. Fingers crossed they get everything sorted out soon 💻

I'm still using my old laptop from 2018 🤣, and I thought my tech was up to date... but it turns out Microsoft is still finding bugs in Windows! Like what? 😂 I mean, I've heard of bugs before, like the time I had a lemonade stand that kept getting ruined by actual lemons 🍋. But this one's a bit more serious, right? Preventing users from shutting down their computers properly? That's just plain weird... and frustrating for anyone who needs to go home at the end of the day 😅. And what's up with Secure Launch not working right? I mean, isn't that like, super secure or something? 🤔 Guess you can't have your cake and shut down your computer too 👀. Anyway, glad Microsoft is on it... now if only they'd fix my laptop's Wi-Fi issues 📵😒.

Omg can't believe Microsoft released a security update for Windows 11 just to pull it out again like four days later? 🤯 What's going on with these Enterprise and IoT editions?! They need more testing, you feel me? 😂 I know they're trying to protect us from all the bad guys but come on! A patch that breaks our system? No thanks. And now it's affecting Windows 10 too? That's just crazy talk. Secure Launch should be a joke, it's like they didn't even test it properly. 🤦‍♂️

Omg u guys! So Microsoft just dropped an emergency patch for Windows 11 after only a few days of the security update being released 🚨😳. I mean i know bugs can happen but four days is pretty quick for a company like Microsoft to come out with an emergency fix? 🤔 The issues were major too, people were having trouble shutting down their laptops and logging into remote desktop connections... that's some serious tech troubles 🤦‍♂️.

I gotta give credit to Microsoft though, they were super fast in identifying the problem and coming up with a solution. And now it seems like they're keeping an eye on all these other platforms too, so I'm hoping we won't see any more major issues pop up soon 💻💸. Still, i guess you can never be too careful when it comes to tech security... just gotta keep our systems updated and ready for anything! 💥

OMG u guys i just tried to shut down my laptop last night but it kept freezing and i had to force restart lol. then i saw this news about windows 11 having a major bug thats so wild. microsoft gotta step up their game, cant have users dealing with that stuff i feel bad for ppl who dont know how to roll back updates or whatever 🤦‍♂️😩 anyway its good that they released an emergency patch already, hope everyone gets fixed ASAP 💻👍

what's up with microsoft? they release a security update, but it comes with bugs lol like what even is the point of that? i'm so glad they came out and fixed it already, can't stand dealing with buggy software 😒. Secure Launch thingy sounds like some fancy tech jargon to me, but if it's causing issues, let's get it sorted out ASAP. hope the rest of windows 11 doesn't have more surprises in store 👍

omg u guys, just heard about microsoft releasing a security update for windows 11 and i'm like totally shook 😱 they r already releasing patches again cuz of some major bugs lol what's up with that? 🤯 i mean i get it, they gotta keep our devices safe and all but can't they just test it first? 🙄 anyway, so they just dropped an emergency patch on jan 17th after identifying the issues & stuff... pretty impressive tbh. Secure launch is a whole thing now tho, apparently failing to shut down or hibernate cuz of these bugs 🤖. guess that's good news for ppl who wanna stay connected remotely, lol 😉

😊 so its not all bad! I mean, they're already pushing out emergency patches and updates to fix the bugs 🤖. Thats like a silver lining in itself - shows how proactive Microsoft is being about addressing the issues ASAP 💻. And it's great that they're acknowledging the problems early on, instead of letting them go unnoticed for too long ⏰. Now, I know some people might be worried about the impact on Enterprise and IoT users 🤝, but its clear that Microsoft is already working hard to resolve the issue 👍.

omg cant believe microsoft is already having issues with windows 11 just 4 days after the security update lol 😂 they gotta step up their game and make sure these new updates are properly tested before releasing them to the public 🤦‍♂️ at least they're being proactive about it tho, released that emergency patch so soon and acknowledged the problems 🙏 hope these fixes come through quickly and dont leave anyone hanging 👍

🤦‍♂️ Can't believe Microsoft is giving us a reason to love shutdowns... literally! Just four days after releasing the first security update, they're back with an emergency patch because those bugs were more like "Shut Down and Pray" type issues 😅. I mean, who needs remote desktop connections when you can just shut down your computer and pretend everything was fine? 🤣 On a serious note, I guess it's good that Microsoft is on top of this issue and has already released an out-of-band update to fix the problems. But still, who needs that much drama with their Windows 11? 😂

🤔 think about it... you'd think a major update like this would be thoroughly tested before being released to the public right? it's easy to get caught up in the hype of new technology, but at the end of the day, it's all about stability and security 🛡️. what can we learn from this? probably that even with the best intentions, things don't always go as planned... and that's okay! it's how we respond to those unexpected twists that matters 💪. so instead of panicking or getting frustrated, let's use this as an opportunity to appreciate the dedication of Microsoft's team in identifying and fixing these issues 🙏.

🤯 just had to shut down my laptop for like 5 mins and it was so annoying 🙄. they should've tested those new updates more thoroughly 💻. cant believe i'm still using windows 10 btw 👎. anyway, hope the emergency patch fixes the issues ASAP 🕒️. gotta keep my remote desktop connections stable 😴. Microsoft is all about that 🚀 but sometimes they need to work on their testing process 🔧

ugh i'm so done with microsoft already... like they can't even get their own security updates right 🤦‍♂️ first they release something that's supposed to be all stable and secure, and then four days later they're scrambling to patch it up again because of some serious bugs 🚨. i mean, come on, how hard is it to test software before releasing it? it's like they just threw a bunch of code out there and hoped for the best 🔥.

and now they're telling us that some devices with secure launch won't even be able to shut down properly 📉? that's not exactly the kind of security update i want from my operating system. and what really gets me is that this whole thing started because of a windows 11 version, but then they go and include windows 10 in the updated list too... like, are we supposed to be all "oh, it's just windows 10, it's not that bad" 😒.

i swear, microsoft needs to get their act together before i even think about upgrading from my trusty old laptop 💻.

😬 seems like microsoft had a bit of a rocky start with their windows 11 updates... releasing an emergency patch so soon after the first security update just shows how important it is for them to keep testing and catching bugs before they hit the general public 💻👍

This is just like the time when I was using XP and I had to wait for ages for updates to come out... remember those days? 🤣 And now they're doing it again! Four days after releasing a security update, they're having to fix more bugs? It's like déjà vu. Anyway, at least they're moving quick, even if it's slow for us users 😊. Secure Launch, huh? I don't know much about that, but hopefully it helps with the shutdown thing. I mean, who doesn't love a good reboot every now and then? 💻

omg can't believe microsoft already broke out the emergency patch lol what's going on with these updates they're like "oh we're good" and then BAM 4 days later it's a huge mess 🤯 i'm so done with these new os versions windows 11 is like the most unstable thing i've ever seen

and to think they only fixed enterprise and IoT editions like what about us regular folk who just wanna play some games or watch vids on our laptops without all these issues 🤷‍♂️ Secure Launch might fail to shut down? that's just asking for a blue screen of death 😳

anyway, kudos to microsoft for releasing the update ASAP i guess it's good they're taking responsibility and trying to fix the problems 💻 let's hope this is the last we hear about these issues for a while 🤞

Ugh, can you believe it? Like, four days after releasing a security update, they're already forced to come out with an emergency patch... 🤦‍♂️ It's like, Microsoft just wants everything to be perfect and flawless, you know? But honestly, I guess it's good that they're on top of it and acknowledging the issues so quickly. The fact that Secure Launch is involved is a bit concerning though... how are people supposed to even troubleshoot this when their devices just won't shut down?! 🤯 On the bright side, at least Microsoft is being proactive about fixing the problems ASAP. Fingers crossed that everyone gets a smooth fix soon! 💻

🤦‍♂️ I mean, can't they just test their updates a bit better? I was really looking forward to getting that security update, but now it's like they're playing catch-up all over again 📺. I've been using my laptop for years and I'm not exactly tech-savvy, so the thought of having to deal with bugs is super frustrating 😩. And it's even worse when you hear about it being specific to certain editions and versions... what's up with that? 🤷‍♂️
