Microsoft has released its first security update for Windows 11 in 2026, but just four days later, it was forced to release an emergency patch due to some serious bugs that were introduced. The bug, which only affected systems running Enterprise or IoT editions of Windows 11 23H2, prevented users from shutting down their computers properly and also caused issues with logging into remote desktop connections.
The company released the emergency update on January 17th after identifying the problems and understanding how they could be solved. In a statement, Microsoft mentioned that some devices equipped with Secure Launch might fail to shut down or hibernate due to these bugs. This issue is limited to Windows 11, version 23H2, which only includes Enterprise and IoT editions.
Microsoft has already released an out-of-band update, designed to fix the problems and provide a solution for affected users. The updated list of products that were impacted by this issue now includes Windows 10, version 22H2 ESU, as well as multiple platforms such as remote connection applications on Windows 11, 25H2; Windows Server 2025.
