Miles Scott's 2 late interceptions secure Illinois' win over Northwestern

Illinois Clinches Victory Over Northwestern in Snowy Showdown

A late interception from Miles Scott sealed the deal for Illinois, securing a narrow 20-13 win over Northwestern in a chaotic and snowy battle at Gies Memorial Stadium. The Illini's defense rose to the occasion, with Scott's two interceptions in the final five minutes preventing a Wildcats comeback.

The game was marred by poor weather conditions, with eight inches of snow falling during the day and lingering into the night. Fans were largely confined to the west side of the stadium due to the heavy snowfall, but they packed in to watch the action unfold on the field.

Illinois coach Bret Bielema credited his coaching staff for preparing for three different weather scenarios, as well as his senior class, led by quarterback Luke Altmyer and linebacker Gabe Jacas, for their contributions to the team's success. The seniors have been a key factor in changing the perception of the program, which has been on the upswing after years of struggling.

Northwestern, meanwhile, was left to lament its four turnovers, which ultimately proved too much to overcome. Despite a spirited effort from quarterback Preston Stone, who threw for 163 yards and a touchdown, the Wildcats were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

The win marked Illinois' 20th victory in a season with eight or more wins since 1989-90, a program record. The Illini are now headed to a bowl game in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2010-11, and will be looking to cap off an impressive turnaround under Bielema's leadership.

The Land of Lincoln Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the Illinois-Northwestern matchup, remains with Northwestern, but Bielema is now tied for the lead in the series. The Wildcats are bowl eligible, while Illinois awaits a postseason invitation to round out their season.

I'm loving this snowy game day vibe 🌨️🏈 it's so nostalgic like those old-school winter games we used to watch on tv back in the 90s! I mean, who needs fancy stadiums when you can have eight inches of snow and a sea of fans cheering from the west side? It's just like back then when we'd bundle up and watch our fave teams battle it out. And Illinois totally deserved that W - their defense was on point πŸ”’πŸ‘. Northwestern just couldn't capitalize on those turnovers πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, but hey, at least they're bowl eligible now! It's gonna be super interesting to see how this season wraps up for both teams... and I'm so stoked to be back watching the Land of Lincoln Trophy showdowns again 😊

πŸ™Œ oh man that was such an intense game! 8 inches of snow and still they managed to pull off that comeback interception by Miles Scott πŸ’₯ it's amazing how his senior class stepped up for the team. Luke Altmyer and Gabe Jacas are total rockstars 🀩 the defense did a great job holding it down, especially with those four turnovers costing Northwestern big time πŸ˜…. I'm so hyped for Illinois now, they're headed to a bowl game! They've come so far under coach Bielema's leadership πŸŽ‰ and that win over Northwestern is definitely going to boost their confidence πŸ’ͺ. Bring on the postseason, Illini are ready! 🏈

idk about this win for illinois πŸ€”, 20-13? that's not exactly a blowout... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ the weather conditions were crazy though ❄️, like 8 inches of snow and all. fans stuck on one side of the stadium? talk about a harsh environment πŸ˜“. northwestern had some turnovers tho πŸ€‘, 4 of them! that's gotta hurt. brett bielema saying it was his coaching staff and senior class who carried the team? idk, can we see some stats or something to back that up? πŸ’‘

omg u guyz i know whats really goin on here... think about it... illinois coach bret bielema talks about his coaching staff and senior class but what about the real game changer? miles scott's late interception was like, super suspicious lol he just so happens to come up with 2 crucial turnovers in the final minutes of the game... and meanwhile, illinois is headed to a bowl game... what's really at stake here? is it just about winning or is there something more? πŸ€”πŸˆ

idk about this win for illinois... 20-13 seems pretty close if u ask me πŸ€” still the defense did an amazing job, especially with those two interceptions in the last 5 minutes. but lets be real, its not like they dominated the game or anything. and those snowy conditions were straight up crazy 🌨️ anyone who made it to that game was like a true weather warrior β˜ƒοΈ i mean, bret bielma's coaching staff deserves props tho for prepping for all that wacky weather... but still gotta wonder how many more twists & turns are in store for illinois this season? πŸ€”

πŸ€” So they finally won this snowy game against Northwestern... I mean it was close, 20-13? 😬 That's not exactly convincing, but hey, a win is a win, right? 🏈 The fact that Illinois' defense stepped up when it mattered most and their coaching staff prepared for all the weather conditions is definitely something to be praised. πŸ‘ But four turnovers from Northwestern just didn't cut it... I guess you can't blame the Wildcats for being a bit frustrated, especially with those poor weather conditions making life tough for their fans 🌨️.

πŸŽ‰ OMG u guys 20-13 win over NW 🀯! That interception by Miles Scott was EVERYTHING πŸ˜‚. I'm so hyped for the seniors Luke and Gabe they've been carrying this team all year πŸ’ͺ. Coach Bielema's prep work paid off big time, especially with those weather scenarios 🌨️. Four turnovers from NW is a lot to overcome, but their quarterback Preston Stone gave it his all πŸ‘. And can we talk about the Land of Lincoln Trophy for like 5 seconds more 🀣? Tied up now, but I'm so here for that bowl game πŸ”₯!

I'm so over these weather conditions 🌨️! Can't they just have one game that's not affected by snow and freezing temps? I mean, I get it, it's not exactly the most ideal setup for football, but still... 8 inches of snow?! And to make matters worse, those fans on the west side were basically stuck in a snowbank πŸ˜‚. Not cool. But seriously, Illinois' defense stepped up when it mattered most and that late interception by Miles Scott was clutch! 🎯 And props to coach Bielema for preparing his team for all kinds of weather scenarios. That's good coaching right there! πŸ‘

omg i just saw this game and what a wild ride it was! πŸ˜‚ snow everywhere, fans stuck on one side of the stadium... but that late interception by miles scott sealed the deal for illinois. nice move! 🀩 i'm so glad the seniors on the team came through like they did, luke altmyer and gabe jacas are seriously stars now πŸ’« i feel bad for northwestern though, four turnovers is a tough pill to swallow. but hey, it's all part of the game right? 🏈

aww man πŸ˜” that was such a crazy game πŸŒͺ️! i'm so proud of those Illini 🀩 they really showed heart and perseverance πŸ’ͺ especially with all that snow coming down ❄️ it's like they were dancing around the field in the storm πŸ’ƒπŸ½πŸ’¨ illinois coach bielema must be the best 😊 his team came together and saved the day πŸ”₯ and that late interception by miles scott 🀯 was everything πŸ’₯

man, what a game! 🀯 The snowy conditions must've been crazy to play in... i feel bad for the fans who got stuck on the other side of the stadium πŸš—πŸ’¨. Illinois's defense was huge, especially those two interceptions by Miles Scott πŸ’ͺ🏽! Northwestern's four turnovers just didn't go their way πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I'm stoked to see Illinois's seniors leading the team to a win - they've been on fire all season πŸ”₯. Now we get to see if they can keep it up in the bowl game πŸŽ‰. Bowl eligible Northwestern is still looking strong, though πŸ‘Š. This Illini team has come so far under Coach Bielema... I love the underdog story πŸ’•

I mean, it's crazy to think that Northwestern is going to be playing in a bowl game this year 🀯... I remember when they were always stuck on the side of the tracks, but then they went through some changes and things started looking up for them. It's like they've finally found their footing again.

And Illinois, man... it's amazing to see them back as contenders. They're like the new kids on the block now 😎. That win over Northwestern was a big one, especially with the snow and all. You gotta give props to coach Bielema for getting his team ready for that. He's like a master strategist or something.

But you know what really got me is how this season has turned things around for Illinois after so many years of struggle. It's like they've finally broken through the barrier, you feel me? 🏈πŸ’ͺ They're now part of the big boys, playing in bowls and all that jazz. It's awesome to see them thriving.

ugh man i'm so hyped for illinois they were literally snowed under up there and still managed to pull it off πŸ€―πŸ’¨ it's like they just refused to give in to the weather conditions i feel bad for northwestern tho, those turnovers killed them 4 ints in one game is a lot to overcome. and can we talk about bret bielema's coaching staff? i mean seriously they prepared for 3 different weather scenarios and still managed to come out on top that's some next level stuff πŸ€“πŸ’‘ and what's up with the seniors leading the charge for illinois? luke altmyer and gabe jacas are straight fire πŸ’₯πŸ”₯ this win marks a huge turning point in the program's history, from being down and out to now being bowl bound again it's amazing to see them rise to the occasion like that 🌟

OMG 🀯 just watched this game and I'm SHOOK 😲 Illinois totally pulled off that win! Miles Scott's intercepts were everything πŸ’ͺ🏽 and the defense was ON POINT πŸ”’πŸ’₯

I love how Illinois coach Bret Bielema got his team prepared for those crazy weather conditions β„οΈβ˜οΈ. The seniors, especially Luke Altmyer and Gabe Jacas, were KEY 🀝🏽 to this win.

Northwestern had some ups and downs ⬆️⬇️, but four turnovers is just too many πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Preston Stone tried his best, but it wasn't enough πŸ’”

Bowl game bound for Illinois again πŸŽ‰πŸ‘ and I couldn't be more hyped πŸ˜†! They're gonna CRUSH it in the postseason πŸ’₯

Ugh, snow, snow, and more snow... can't even enjoy a game without getting stuck in the stadium πŸŒ¨οΈπŸ’¨. Anyway, congrats to Illinois for pulling off that win, I guess it's not like they needed some crazy defensive plays to secure the victory 😏. Bielema must be doing something right, I mean, who else could turn their program around after years of struggling? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Northwestern just can't catch a break, four turnovers is just not enough, huh? πŸ™„ Still, gotta respect that senior class for bringing the team back on track. Now Illinois gets to go bowling, let's see how they do against someone other than Northwestern... 😏

Man, what a crazy game! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time πŸ€―β€β™‚οΈ. Eight inches of snow and still they played like champs! I gotta give it up to that Miles Scott, two picks in the final five minutes? Legendary! 😎 The Illini defense was on point, Northwestern just couldn't get anything going due to those four turnovers πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Bielema's coaching staff must've done something right, getting the team ready for all that weather πŸŒͺ️. Now they're headed to a bowl game, that's huge! πŸŽ‰ The seniors led by Luke Altmyer and Gabe Jacas have definitely changed the program's image, no more struggling years πŸ’ͺ. Can't wait to see what happens next season πŸ€”

Ugh πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ, can't believe they didn't have some sort of weather alert system in place for this game 🌨️... I mean, 8 inches of snow and still expect fans to brave the elements? It's just a safety hazard ⚠️. And what's with the lack of mobile viewing options on their website? Can't watch the highlights without buffering all day πŸ“ΉπŸ˜©. The only good thing is that Illinois' defense stepped up, but it's not like they won by some landslide score or anything... 20-13 feels kinda anticlimactic 😐. And Northwestern, yeah, they had four turnovers, what did you expect? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Still, at least the seniors are getting props for their contributions. Let's see how this bowl game plays out πŸˆπŸ‘€

man this game was wild! like, i'm not surprised illinois won since they've been looking good all season 🀯 and that snowy weather just added an extra level of challenge for northwestern πŸ˜‚. but you gotta give credit to miles scott's interception skills, dude saved the day! πŸ’ͺ 8 inches of snow? that's crazy! i was watching from home and my internet was buffering like crazy πŸ“Ί... anywayz, congrats to illinois on their win and hopefully they can keep it up for the bowl game πŸŽ‰
