Minion at 2026 Winter Olympics: Tomas-Llorenc Guarino Sabate given Minions music permission

Spanish figure skater Tomas-Llorenc Guarino Sabate has finally been given the green light to perform his Minions-themed routine at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. After days of legal wrangling and online outcry, Sabate has secured permission to skate to a mix of music from the Despicable Me animated film series, which had raised eyebrows among copyright holders.

The 26-year-old skater had faced an uncertain future when it seemed that he would have to change his usual routine due to a copyright issue. However, after negotiations with Pharrell Williams and Universal Pictures, Sabate has secured the necessary licenses for his music selection. The agreement was reached on Thursday night, just hours before the final deadline.

Sabate's situation became a cause celebre online, with fans taking to social media to show their support using the hashtag #lettheminionskate. The skater has been open about his passion for the Minions franchise and had submitted his music selection through the International Skating Union's (ISU) ClicknClear system in August.

Sabate will perform a mix of Bee Gees songs for his free skate routine, which is expected to be a highlight of his Olympic debut. The 2026 Winter Olympics will take place at Milano Ice Skating Arena on February 13th, and fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to see Sabate in action.

The resolution of this issue marks a triumph for Sabate, who has become known for his flamboyant and unusual routines. He has been praised by fans and fellow competitors alike for his dedication to his craft and his ability to bring joy to those watching him skate.

As Sabate prepares to take the ice at the 2026 Winter Olympics, he is sure to be accompanied by a sea of Minions-themed costumes and accessories. With his usual music selection now secured, Sabate can focus on perfecting his routine and delivering a performance worthy of the adoration of the Olympic crowd.

I gotta say, I'm both stoked and skeptical at the same time 🤔. On one hand, it's awesome that Tomas-Llorenc got to skate to Minions music - who doesn't love those lovable yellow guys? 🐒 The fact that fans rallied around him using #lettheminionskate is super heartwarming. But on the other hand, I'm a bit concerned about the implications of allowing copyrighted material in the Olympics. What's next? Are we gonna have music from Star Wars or Harry Potter too? 😂 It's a slippery slope, you know? Maybe it's just a one-off thing and everything will be fine, but it's worth keeping an eye on this. Still, can't wait to see Tomas-Llorenc bring the heat (and Minion vibes) to the ice! 🎶

🤔 so this guy gets away with using minions theme music at the olympics? 🎵 i mean i get it, he's passionate about it but shouldn't that have been handled better by the ISU or something? 🙄 i saw some vids of people who were super upset by this and i'm like... where was their logic tho? 😒

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing lol 😂. Like, I get it, Tomas-Llorenc wants to skate to Minions music and that's awesome for him! But have you seen the number of threads on our forum about this? 🤯 "Is this a copyright disaster waiting to happen?" or "Why can't he just use original music?" etc... 🙄. And what's with all the drama? Can't we just let him skate and enjoy it?! 😎 I mean, I'm excited for him too! But at the same time, as someone who's been around these forums a while, it's just frustrating to see people get worked up over something that's really not that big of a deal. 🤷‍♂️ The fact is, he's got his green light and now we can all enjoy the show! Can we move on to something else now? 😒

I'm so stoked that Tomas-Llorenc has got the green light to skate to his Minion fave tunes 🎶😄. I mean, who doesn't love a good Despicable Me soundtrack? The whole thing was kinda crazy with all the copyright drama 🤯, but I think it's gonna be awesome to see him bring some fun and personality to the Olympics ice 🏒️. I've been following his skating vids for ages, and he's always done an epic job, so I'm hyped to see what he comes up with this time around 🎉!

🤔 I'm kinda relieved that Tomas-Llorenc finally got the green light to do his Minions thing at the Olympics. I mean, can you blame him? It's not every day you get to skate to 'I Like to Move It' on the world stage 😂. On a more serious note, it's pretty impressive how passionate he is about his craft and how far-fetched some copyright holders were being. Pharrell Williams and Universal Pictures should be giving credit for their part in resolving this. Let's hope Tomas-Llorenc brings the house down with his routine! 🏅🎵
