MLB rumors: Is there a chance Harrison Bader comes back to the Phillies?

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has consistently expressed confidence in his team's current roster, but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't take advantage of a bargain if presented. With $15 million still available to spend this season, there's always a chance the Phillies could revisit their interest in free agent outfielder Harrison Bader.

After failing to secure Bo Bichette at the 11th hour, Dombrowski signed J.T. Realmuto to a three-year deal worth $15 million annually. While it's unlikely the Phillies will rekindle their pursuit of Bader, who has been on the market for some time, it's not entirely out of the question.

The Mets, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals are still in need of outfield help, making them logical teams to consider for Bader. The 32-year-old outfielder has already played for the Cardinals from 2017-2022 and may prefer a return to a contender rather than staying with a rebuilding team that hasn't made the postseason in three years.

The Phillies' decision to give top prospect Justin Crawford a shot at winning the center field job could be influenced by Bader's availability. If Crawford struggles, re-signing Bader would provide another badly needed right-handed bat in the lineup and give Crawford the opportunity to win the left field job at camp instead of being handed it outright.

While the idea of bringing back Bader seems like a long shot, it's worth exploring if the price is right. The Phillies have the financial flexibility to make it happen, and given their current roster situation, it might be worth taking a chance on the veteran outfielder.

I'm not sure why they're so eager to give up on Crawford... I mean, he's got potential, but the thought of Bader coming back is definitely tempting πŸ€”. My kid's team plays outfield and it's all about having that extra boost when you're playing against stronger teams. With $15 million still available, it's like they have a safety net to fall back on if Crawford doesn't work out... maybe it's worth taking a chance? 😊

πŸ€” I was just re-reading this thread from 2022 where people were debating whether Bader or Bo Bichette would be a better fit for the Phillies... πŸ“† And now that Bader's been out there for ages, it makes me wonder if Dombrowski might still want to snag him. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The Mets and Cards are both looking pretty weak in OUTFIELD land, so if they're open to spending, that's a plus... πŸ’Έ I mean, Crawford's got potential, but he's not the same as having Bader's bat in the lineup... πŸš€ What do you guys think? Should Philly give Bader another shot at a contender role? πŸ€—

I'm low-key surprised the Phillies even considered giving up on Bader in the first place πŸ€”. I mean, he's still got some pop and experience playing for the Cardinals, which could've been super valuable to them right now. And yeah, they did just give Realmuto a ton of money... but Bader's not exactly breaking the bank either πŸ€‘. If they're really struggling in center field, it wouldn't hurt to at least consider bringing him back - even if it means giving up some of their top prospect. Crawford's a talented kid and all, but he needs to prove himself first πŸ’ͺ. Why not take a chance on Bader and hope for the best?

I'm not sure why I get this feeling that the Phillies are trying to fill a void with Harrison Bader... It's like they're searching for a sense of completeness in their lineup, but what does that really mean? Are they just throwing money at it hoping to solve some deep-seated problem? Meanwhile, I wonder if J.T. Realmuto is really worth $15 million annually... Is it a luxury we can afford? And what about the intangibles - the chemistry between players, the vibe of the team? Can you buy that with a paycheck?

I mean, if they're gonna give Crawford a shot... πŸ‘Š[A GIF of a baseball player swinging and missing] ...they might as well try to snag Bader for cheap! 😏[A screenshot from a video game where you can buy players]

im not sure why ppl r so quick 2 dismiss dombrowski's moves lol like hes got a solid track record of makin deals that pay off. and 15 mil is still decent wiggle room 4 him 2 maneuver. gotta admit, bader would be a great addition 2 the phillies lineup right now especially with crawford lookin for his breakout season. think dombrowski's got some smart thinking goin on here

I'm kinda curious about this Harrison Bader thing πŸ€”. I mean, he's been around for a bit and has some experience playing with contenders like the Cardinals. The Phillies have got the cash to spend and could really use another righty bat in their lineup... if they can get him at a price that makes sense, it might be worth a shot πŸ’Έ. Crawford getting a chance to prove himself in CF is a good sign, but Bader would definitely give them some extra firepower in RF πŸ”₯. Maybe not the most likely move, but you never know what can happen when teams are feeling desperate ⚾️

the phillies should defo consider signing harrison bader lol πŸ˜‚ think about it they got j.t realmuto but he's pretty pricey meanwhile crawford's still finding his feet πŸ€” and we all know how that 1st yr in the league goes πŸ˜… so if its not a huge price drop bader might be worth taking a shot at 🎯

omg i was thinking about bader last year when he was still with cardinals πŸ€” couldnt believe he left but now the phillies are back in the market for him? its been so long since they had a solid righty bat... Crawford is gonna get some tough competition, thats for sure πŸ˜… if Bader shows up at half price or something it would be crazy! the phillies need all the depth they can get, and a veteran like bader could bring some stability to that outfield

Omg I'm so down for the Phils to make another move!!! They need that bat in the lineup so badly and Bader would be an amazing addition πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ’₯ If Crawford struggles they gotta consider giving Bader a shot, he's been on the market for ages and might just appreciate playing with a contender again 😊 Plus it'd be awesome to see Bader back in Philly, fingers crossed! πŸ‘

idk why ppl think philly's all set w/ their outfield... JT Realmuto's been a solid C but he's not exactly lighting up the scoreboard... having bader back would give them that extra pop in the lineup πŸ€”... and let's be real, they can afford it πŸ’Έ... Crawford's gonna struggle at first, trust me, he needs a bat like bader to carry him through those tough months of spring training πŸ˜‚

I mean, I guess it's not like Dombrowski would actually take advantage of a good deal or anything... πŸ™„ He's always been super confident in his team's abilities, but hey, who needs a proven player when you've got a prospect who might just become a benchwarmer? πŸ˜’ The Phillies are definitely in need of a right-handed bat, and if they can get Bader on a deal that doesn't break the bank, I'm not going to lie and say it's a bad idea. But let's be real, he's been out there for a while... like, 2022 🀣

πŸ€”πŸ’‘ I think the Phillies should defo consider bringin' back Harrison Bader 😊, especially if they're still lookin' for that right-handed bat in the lineup. J.T. Realmuto's deal is still relatively new, so it's not like they're committed to him long-term or nothin' πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

If Crawford struggles outta the gate, re-signin' Bader would be a solid backup plan ⚾️. And let's be real, Bader's already got some experience playin' for the Cardinals, so he'd know what to expect when it comes to bein' in a contender πŸ†.

Plus, 15 million bucks ain't no small change πŸ’Έ, so I think the Phillies could make it happen if they're willin' to take a shot πŸ”₯. It's definitely worth explorin', even if it seems like a long shot 😬

just saw this news about the phillies and bader... think it'd be smart for them to give him another shot πŸ€”πŸ’‘ if they can get him at a good price. don't wanna waste $15m on someone who's gonna struggle in cf when crawford needs a chance. plus, it'd add some depth to the lineup with a righty bat 🌟

I'm not sure why the Phillies are so close to perfect with their roster... they've already made some big moves like signing Realmuto, but this J.T. guy is gonna wear out his welcome after 3 years πŸ€”. Meanwhile, Bader's been sitting on the market for ages and I think he'd be a great addition to any team. He's not just about power, he can play some decent defense too. The Phillies do have that $15 million left over so it's worth exploring... but let's not get our hopes up too high, it's Philly after all 😊

πŸ€” I mean, what if they do go after Bader? It'd be crazy, but I guess you never know πŸ™ƒ. They've been pretty confident in their young guns like Crawford and Ramos, but what if things don't click? Having a seasoned vet like Bader around could make all the difference πŸ’ͺ. Plus, it's not like they're out of the picture just 'cause they didn't snag Bo Bichette πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. The Mets and Dbacks are still looking for some outfield help, so maybe Philly sees an opportunity to swoop in and get a good deal πŸ€‘. Let's keep an eye on this one πŸ‘€

I'm still thinking about this whole Bo Bichette fiasco πŸ€”πŸ‘€. I mean, the Phillies signed J.T. Realmuto for 3 years to save some cash, but now they've got $15 million left over. If they can get Harrison Bader at a good price, it's not like they're passing up on a golden opportunity πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ’Έ. The fact that Dombrowski is still confident in their roster makes me think they might be open to making a move πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And let's be real, the Mets, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals could use some outfield help too ⚾️. If Crawford struggles, having Bader on board would give them another righty bat in the lineup and a chance for Crawford to win out left field job... it's worth considering! πŸ€”πŸ’‘

omg did you guys watch that 1st day of baseball season game? 🀩 the pitcher guy threw so many strikes in like 2 minutes I was on the edge of my seat! πŸ˜‚ anyway back to this harrison bader stuff, i feel like he's a great player but 15 million is kinda steep right? πŸ’Έ also what's up with j.t. realmuto's deal tho? did they get him for cheap or something? πŸ€”

Ugh, I'm not holding my breath but still thinking Dombrowski will try to grab Bader like a cheap steal. $15 million is nothing for him, he'll probably just regret passing on Bader and be stuck with Crawford who's gonna tank hard in CF πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
