Mountain lion roaming San Francisco's streets captured by wildlife officials

A rare sighting in the City by the Bay: A mountain lion spotted roaming San Francisco's streets has been captured by wildlife officials. The wild cat was first seen on Monday morning in the Pacific Heights neighborhood and had made its way into Lafayette Park before being located and tranquilized.

Eyewitness Madrey Hilton described the scene, stating that the mountain lion seemed "so big … not just a regular cat." She captured footage of the animal, which appeared to be just going about its business. The lion even managed to scale a wall and into a park before it was eventually found by authorities.

While mountain lion sightings in San Francisco are uncommon, they have occurred before. In 2020, another young mountain lion was spotted in downtown San Francisco, sleeping in a planter box on a busy street. It also caught its own reflection in an office tower's glass and was later safely captured and released into the wild.

Wildlife experts explain that these animals often migrate from the hills south of the city to urban areas before eventually making their way back into the wilderness. In this case, the mountain lion has been transported to a safe location where it will be released back into the wild.

omg like what's going on with those mountain lions in SF?? they're like the ultimate urban wildlife πŸŒ†πŸ˜Ή i mean i've seen pics of them before but seeing one in person is crazy 😲 like how do they even navigate the streets? and scaling walls like it's no big deal? 🀯 that wall in Lafayette Park must be hella hard to climb 🚧 madrey hilton is a genius for capturing footage of it, btw! πŸ“Ή so glad it was eventually caught & released back into the wild tho πŸ‘ those wildlife experts are doing their job right πŸ™

omg what's up with these SF mountain lions lately?! 🀯 first one was like 5 years ago and now another one shows up outta nowhere in pacific heights πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ i mean i know they're majestic and all but seriously can't they just stick to the hills? πŸ˜‚ anyway glad it got captured safely, hope it's thriving back in the wild πŸŒ³πŸ’š

So like this is kinda crazy right? 🀯 A mountain lion just chillin in San Francisco's streets and no one freaked out! I mean I guess it's not every day you see wildlife roaming around the city, but still. It's cool that the authorities were able to catch it without any harm to humans or the cat itself.

I'm kinda curious about why these mountain lions are making the trek into the city in the first place. Is there like food or something available? Or do they just get bored with the wilderness and wanna explore?

It's also pretty awesome that the footage of the mountain lion is so calm and relaxed, just going about its day like it owns the place. And yeah, I guess it's good to know that it'll be released back into the wild eventually, rather than being kept in captivity.

Anyways, what a cool (and slightly unsettling) sighting! πŸŒ³πŸ‘

πŸ―πŸ˜‚ I mean, what's next? A polar bear strolling through Haight-Ashbury? San Francisco's streets are crazy enough without adding actual bears and mountain lions to the mix! 🀣 But for real though, it's pretty cool that someone got a chance to catch some footage of this guy just chillin' in the city. I'm sure it was a wild day (no pun intended) πŸŒ³πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. Guess you could say the mountain lion was living its best life for a hot second, strutting around like it owned the place πŸ‘‘.

lol what's up with these mountain lions in SF?? 🀯 I mean, i'm glad they caught the one in Pacific Heights, but shouldn't we have like, more parks and less concrete or something? That wall the lion scaled was crazy! And omg, sleeping in a planter box on a busy street? that's just lol. I guess it's cool that wildlife experts are looking out for them, releasing them back into the wild after they're done exploring the city. But still, can we please get some more mountain lion highways or something? πŸš—πŸŒ³

OMG 🀯 just read about this crazy sighting in San Francisco! I mean, who expects to see a mountain lion roaming around the city? It's like something out of a movie πŸŽ₯. The fact that it was so calm and just doing its thing is actually kinda impressive πŸ™Œ. But at the same time, you can't help but feel a little worried about the safety of all those people walking around 😬.

I love how wildlife experts explained that these animals are just migrating to urban areas before heading back into the wild 🌳. It's like they're on some sort of great adventure 🌴. And I'm so glad the mountain lion was safely captured and released back into its natural habitat 🐾. It's always amazing to see how nature can thrive even in unexpected places 🌸.

I'm low-key impressed how calm that mountain lion seemed in the middle of all those humans lol 🀣. I mean, it's not every day you see a wild animal just chillin' on the streets. It's crazy to think about how it managed to sneak up onto the wall and into the park without anyone even noticing... unless they were too busy staring at their phones πŸ˜‚. Anyways, hope that little guy is doing well in its new safe spot πŸŒ³πŸ’š

🦁 I don’t usually comment but... I'm kinda glad they caught that mountain lion in San Francisco. It's not every day you see one of those guys just chillin' on the streets, right? πŸ˜‚ I mean, can imagine if it had been a few years ago and no one knew how to handle it. But now we've got wildlife experts who know exactly what they're doing.

It's actually pretty cool that this mountain lion was able to make its way into Lafayette Park - I love going there myself! 🌳 Just think about all the birds and squirrels running around with a wild cat in their backyard, haha! 🐿️

I guess it just goes to show how our city is, like, a big melting pot for wildlife. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it's definitely interesting to see these animals popping up every now and then. Anyway, glad they were able to catch the guy (or girl?) and release it back into the wild, where it belongs 🌲

Dude, can you imagine seeing a mountain lion in the middle of downtown SF? Like, I was at Fisherman's Wharf last week and I thought someone was playing a prank with a giant stuffed animal πŸ―πŸ˜‚. But nope, it was for real! And this one was like a little ninja, scaling walls and parks like it owned the place πŸ”οΈπŸ’ͺ. I mean, who needs cat videos when you have mountain lion clips on YouTube, right? And poor Madrey Hilton, she's basically the queen of cat whisperer with that footage she captured πŸ“ΉπŸˆ. I'm glad those wildlife experts came to save the day and send it back to its wild life (get it? wild... πŸ˜‚).
