Move Over, MIPS—There’s a New Bike Helmet Safety Tech in Town

New Safety Tech in Town: RLS's Revolutionary Rotational Impact Protection System

In a move to shake up the bike helmet market, British brand RLS has introduced its innovative rotational impact protection system, which promises to reduce the risk of concussion by four times when compared to traditional helmets. After years of research and development, the company has finally put its technology into practice with the launch of its Canyon Deflectr RLS helmet.

RLS's device is a snug inner webbing that moves independently of the helmet's outer shell, deflecting rotational impact away from the head in the event of a crash. This concept has been explored by many other companies, but RLS's approach is unique in that it places the technology on the outside of the helmet.

Studies conducted at Virginia Tech University have confirmed the effectiveness of RLS technology, giving the Canyon Deflectr RLS its highest rating after recent testing. The results show a significant reduction in brain injury risk, with some tests suggesting a 68-84 percent decrease compared to non-RLS helmets.

So, how does the helmet look and feel? At first glance, it's hard to distinguish from other high-end mountain bike helmets. However, upon closer inspection, a series of panels on the surface reveal the genius of RLS technology. The Deflectr also features an added sun-blocking visor, making it suitable for long trail sessions.

In practice, the Deflectr worked seamlessly, with its dial-adjust fit system providing a comfortable and secure fit. Although the chin strap was slightly unusual, Canyon's HighBar System allowed for one-handed adjustments on the fly.

The sample helmet received was an attractive blocky black/white color combo that not only looked cool but also helped keep temperatures down around my skull. While there are currently only two color options available, RLS plans to expand its range in the future.

As if that's not enough, the Deflectr is part of a larger plan by RLS to develop safety technology for other industries, including motorcycles, climbing, and construction helmets. The Canyon Deflectr RLS helmet itself is priced at just $160, making it significantly more affordable than some high-end alternatives on the market.

With its innovative technology, sleek design, and competitive pricing, RLS's Canyon Deflectr RLS helmet is set to shake up the bike helmet industry. Whether you're a serious mountain biker or an enthusiast looking for added safety, this could be the perfect choice for you.

idk about this new tech... sounds cool and all, but 4 times less risk of concussion? that's a pretty big claim 🤔. i've seen similar "game changing" stuff come and go, and it's always interesting to see if it really lives up to the hype. plus, $160 for a helmet is still kinda steep, even with all the safety features 😕. can't say i'm sold yet, but i'll keep an eye on this one 👀

I think that's so cool 🤩! They've actually made it more affordable at $160, which is a great price point considering the tech inside it 💸. I mean, who doesn't want to feel safer on their bike rides? 😅 And that sun-blocking visor sounds super useful for long trail sessions ☀️. But what really gets me excited is that they're planning to develop this tech for other industries too 🚀. That's some serious innovation right there 🔥!

🚴‍♂️ the new safety tech in town looks super promising 🤩! i mean, who wouldn't want to reduce their risk of concussion by four times ⏰? rls's rotational impact protection system is like a superhero cape for your head 😊.

i love that it's placed on the outside of the helmet – makes sense, right? 👍 and the fact that studies have confirmed its effectiveness is a huge plus 📚. the design of the canyon deflectr RLS is sleek and stylish, but let's be real, safety first, no matter what 🔥.

the price point of $160 is a major win 🎉 – it's affordable without sacrificing quality. and the fact that rls plans to expand its range to other industries like motorcycles and climbing? 🤯 that's innovation at its finest 🔩.

idk if 4 times less concussions sounds like a solid claim 🤔. i mean studies were done at Virginia Tech but what's the actual data? what's the sample size? how long was the study run for? and what's the control group? wanna see some numbers before i get on board with this new tech 💸

I'm loving the innovation behind RLS's rotational impact protection system 🤩 - it's a game-changer for cyclists and motorcyclists alike! The fact that it can reduce concussion risk by four times is mind-blowing 💥. What I find really interesting is how this tech can be applied to other industries, like construction and climbing 🏔️. It's not just about safety; it's also about creating new markets and opportunities for companies to push the boundaries of innovation 🔓.

The price point of $160 is pretty sweet too - it's definitely more affordable than some high-end alternatives on the market 💸. But, what I'm curious to see is how this technology will be implemented in real-world scenarios 🤔. Will we see a shift towards more protective gear across various industries? It'll be interesting to monitor as this tech rolls out and its impact becomes more apparent 😊.

I think what really stands out about RLS's new tech is how they've managed to make it both functional and stylish. I mean, who wouldn't want a helmet that looks cool while also keeping them safe? The way the panels on the surface of the Deflectr work together to deflect rotational impact is pure genius 🤯.

But what really gets me excited is the potential for RLS's tech to be applied to other industries. Can you imagine helmets for motorcycles or construction sites that have this level of protection? It's a game-changer, and I think we're going to see some major advancements in safety gear over the next few years 🚀.

And yeah, $160 is a pretty sweet price point considering what you get with the Canyon Deflectr. I'm definitely tempted to pick one up for my own rides – plus, it's always good to have an extra layer of protection when you're careening down mountains on two wheels 🎿.
