West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has revealed positive signs regarding the recovery of US Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, a National Guard member shot in Washington D.C. last week. According to Morrisey, Wolfe showed improvement by responding to a nurse's question and wiggling his toes, which indicates that he is still fighting for his life but is making progress.

Wolfe was one of the two National Guard members attacked by 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal while deployed as part of President Donald Trump's crime-fighting plan. The other member of the West Virginia National Guard, U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, tragically passed away in the shooting.

Morrisey expressed his support for Wolfe's family, asking them to pray for their loved one. He also revealed that funeral arrangements for Beckstrom have not yet been finalized but will be kept private at her family's request.

The investigation into the motive behind the shooting is ongoing, and Lakanwal remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The Trump administration has halted asylum decisions and paused issuing visas for people traveling on Afghan passports in response to the incident.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had asked the President to send 500 additional National Guard members to Washington, but Morrisey stated that West Virginia has not been asked to deploy more troops from its National Guard. With nearly 2,200 troops currently stationed in the city and over 300 having volunteered for extended deployments, the state's focus remains on supporting the families of its service members and providing prayers for Wolfe's recovery.
 
😬 I'm kinda glad that Sgt. Wolfe is showing some signs of improvement 🙏...it's still super scary that he was shot in broad daylight though 💔. The fact that his family's support means everything to him must be a huge weight off their shoulders 💕. On the other hand, it's really sad that Spc. Beckstrom isn't going to get a proper sendoff 🎯...it's crazy how some things are just private like that. Anyway, I hope Sgt. omg this is sooo sad 🤕 i cant even imagine bein in sarah beckstroms shoes 🙏 her memory will live on thru the sacrifice she made 500 more troops? that sounds like a lot, but ill never forget when trump came to power i was worried it would affect the national guard a lot. morrissey seems like a stand-up guy for keepin it private about beckstroms funeral lol good luck to wolfe fam, stay positive 💪

Ugh, this is just another example of how messed up the world is 🤕. Some random psycho goes off on two National Guard members in DC and now one guy's fighting for his life? Give me a break 🙄. I mean, 500 more National Guardsmen are being sent to DC? That's just gonna make things worse. And what about the dude who did it? Still getting non-life threatening injuries because of how our justice system works 🤷‍♂️. The fact that they're focusing on prayers for Andrew Wolfe instead of catching this guy is just... sigh... we'll see how long that gets us anywhere 😒.
 
🙏 You know I'm thinking about how crazy this world is - one minute you're serving your country, next thing you know you're fighting for your life because some folks don't understand what it means to be human. This Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe is making progress, that's a good sign but it's also hard not to think about Spc. Sarah Beckstrom who didn't make it. I'm so glad WV Governor Morrisey is being there for Wolfe's family, they need all the support they can get right now. It's like when my husband was in a car accident back in the day, we were all over the news - prayer and love go a long way 💕. I'm glad they're keeping us updated on Sgt. Wolfe's condition but I need more info on how reliable is that "improvement"? Is it just the nurse asking him a question or did he actually respond in a meaningful way? And what's with the lack of specifics on Lakanwal's motive? 500 extra National Guard members to DC? That sounds like a lot of taxpayer dollars spent. I'm all for supporting our troops, but shouldn't we be focusing on stopping these attacks before they happen instead of throwing more resources at it?
