Never forget a face? You could be a super recogniser – podcast

Could You Really Be a Super Recogniser?

Researchers have discovered that some people possess an extraordinary ability to recall faces they've never seen before - a skill known as super recognisation. But how can you tell if you're one of these remarkable individuals?

For starters, there are two online tests you can take to find out: the UNSW Face Test and the Super Recognisers Greenwich Test. These assessments ask you to identify unfamiliar faces in various images or scenarios, providing valuable insight into your super recognisation abilities.

The benefits of being a super recogniser are multifaceted - it could aid law enforcement agencies in identifying criminals, help individuals with memory disorders, and even improve human-computer interactions. On the other hand, researchers are also exploring the potential downsides of this skill, including increased stress and social anxiety caused by the pressure to constantly remember faces.

According to Dr Rachel K. Dollwet, lead researcher on the project, super recognisers are not necessarily better at remembering names or places than average individuals but possess a unique ability to "extract" information from facial features.

Those with exceptional super recognisation skills can be identified through a series of observations and tests that assess visual perception, working memory, and processing speed. While there is no definitive way to determine whether someone possesses this rare talent, these online tests provide an excellent starting point for exploring your own abilities.

It's never too late to discover if you have what it takes to become a super recogniser - take the UNSW Face Test or the Super Recognisers Greenwich Test today and unlock the secrets of your face recognition skills.

omg i just got done with taking the UNSW Face Test 🤔 and i'm like 60% sure i'm a super recogniser lol idk how they do these tests but its kinda cool to learn more about our brains 💡 anyway, does it really work that if you see someone's face once you can remember them forever? 🙃

OMG u gotta try these online tests 4 face recognition!! 🤯 I mean, who doesnt wanna know if they're a SUPER RECOGNISER?? 🤔 its defo interesting 2 see how good ur at recognising faces thats never seen b4... me personally i took the UNSW Face Test and idk wut 2 expect but it was SO cool! 🎉 the thing is though, its not just about remembering names or places... its more like u gotta pick up on all these subtle details from ppl's faces lol... anyhoo, if ur curious, go check out these tests & see what u got!! 👍

I don't know, maybe being a super recogniser is actually kinda cool? I mean, think about it, you can spot a familiar face in a crowd from like 5 miles away... but on the other hand, that's also super stressful to have to constantly be "on" and remember everyone's faces all the time? 🤯

I don't know if these online tests are even legit, they just seem like a bunch of fancy quizzes... but at the same time, it'd be kinda awesome to see what I can do. I guess it's worth a shot, right? 👀

I'm totally convinced that being a super recogniser is actually not all it's cracked up to be 🤔... I mean, think about it, you're basically expected to remember every single face you've ever seen, which can be pretty overwhelming if you ask me 😓... and what about those people who have really poor facial features? Like, they're still going to be able to identify them somehow? 🤷‍♀️

On the other hand, I'm also convinced that being a super recogniser is totally awesome 💥... I mean, just imagine being able to help law enforcement catch bad guys and stuff 😊... but at the same time, all those faces are going to be stuck in your head forever, which can't be good for you mentally 🤯

I don't know, maybe I'm just being a super recogniser paradox 🤷‍♂️, like, am I or am I not? 😅

I'm like, totally intrigued by this super recognisation thingy 🤯! I mean, can you imagine being able to recall faces from years ago? It's like something out of a movie, you know? Like how they always remember who's who in those spy flicks 🕵️‍♀️. But for real though, it makes sense that this skill could be super helpful for law enforcement and stuff. I bet it'd be wild to see the test results - do people get like, a 100% success rate or what? 😂 And I'm curious about the downsides too... social anxiety from trying to remember all those faces can't be fun 🤕. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole super recognisation thing plays out 🎥

omg is this real?? like can u really just magically remember faces u dont even know lol i wanna try these tests tho but idk if my brain would be able to handle all that info 🤯💻 so yeah, thats cool that its a thing and all but i wonder what happens when u actually see someone for the first time and ur like "wait a sec, i just saw their face somewhere" lol is it like a weird déjà vu or something?

Ugh, I'm surprised they even thought this needed an article 🙄. Anyone who's ever had a decent memory would know that being able to recall faces after one glance is kinda... basic 💁‍♀️. I mean, it's not like these tests are going to accurately measure anything except maybe how tech-savvy people are online 😂.

And don't even get me started on the benefits – law enforcement? Really? That's just a fancy way of saying "useful for surveillance" 🤫. And memory disorders? How about using this skill to help people with actual cognitive issues instead of just exploiting it for tech companies' sake 💸.

The only thing I'd be interested in seeing is how accurate these online tests are, but let's be real, they're probably just going to give you a false sense of security 😴. Just take the test and see what happens – I'm sure your results will be super insightful... lol 🤦‍♀️

I've always wondered about this stuff, I mean, how can we even process all those faces? 🤯 My grandma's got some crazy memory for people, she knows everyone who comes to visit her, even if they're from high school. And now it turns out there are these super recognisers who can do the same thing? That's wild. I wonder if my parents ever knew anyone like that back in the day. It's a bit scary thinking about how much pressure we'd be under to remember all those faces, I mean, what if you don't know someone but they're in a news report or something? 📰 But I guess it could also be really helpful for law enforcement and stuff. I'm gonna have to try out one of these tests and see where I stand! 👍

I took both those online tests and I gotta say, it's wild how easily some faces pop into my head that I've never seen before 🤯💡. Like, I knew I was good at recognising people, but I had no idea it was this level of super recogniser stuff going on in my brain. Now I'm curious if I can help out law enforcement or something and make a difference 💼.

I also feel like it's kinda cool that there are benefits to being a super recogniser, even if it means more stress and anxiety 🤔. Like, who wouldn't want to be able to spot a face from years ago? But at the same time, I can see how it could be overwhelming to have to remember all those faces 🔍.

I'm not sure about the whole 'extracting info' thing, though... sounds like some fancy brain science stuff 🧠. Still, if these tests are legit and they're helping people out, that's all that matters 😊.

I just wanna know, can I be a superhero with my face? Like, I'm not saying I'd solve world hunger, but being able to remember a random face from 10 years ago would be pretty cool! 🤣👀 It's like having a superpower, but without the cape and awkwardness. Can you imagine having to look at a bunch of weird faces all day? Sounds like my job interview experience 😂!

🤔 I think its kinda cool that theres this thing called super recognisation where some ppl can remember faces theyve never seen before. Its like having a built-in memory bank for faces lol. But at the same time, i wonder if its really all it's cracked up to be...i mean, think about how stressful it must be to constantly remember faces and try not to mess up 🤯. And whats with the pressure to do it? cant we just relax a bit and forget about facial recognition every now and then 😂. also, i wonder if its actually that rare or if we just dont know how to develop our face rec skills yet 👀.

🤔 so i think its kinda cool that theres people out there who can recognize faces like thats not just memorization but actually understanding facial features... idk if im one of them tho lol, maybe ill take these tests and see 😅 what i think is weird is how this skill can be a double edge sword - on one hand its super helpful but on the other it sounds kinda stressful to always have to remember faces 👀 like how would you not get tired of that? 🤯

idk why ppl think havin super recognisation skillz is all rainbows 🌈... stress & anxiety r real probs, especially when ur constantly tryna recall faces from yrs ago 👀 it's cool 2 have this abil but let's not forget the human cost 🤕

I'm like 99% sure I've got some form of super recognisation going on, especially when I see random people's faces at parties or in the mall 🤯. It's wild to think that some ppl might not be able to recall even a single unfamiliar face, lol. I mean, I can literally pick out a celeb from a crowd even if I've never seen 'em before - it gives me kinda an edge when watching movies or TV shows 🍿. But at the same time, I get why it could be stressful to always remember ppl's faces... like, what if you're in a bad mood and can't even recall ur own partner's face? 😂👀

I'm not sure how I feel about this whole super recognisation thing... 🤔 I mean, on one hand, being able to identify faces you've never seen before sounds like an incredible ability, but at what cost? Are we just setting ourselves up for a lifetime of constant vigilance and scrutiny? The more I think about it, the more I'm reminded that our brains are wired to absorb and process information - but is that always a good thing? 🤷‍♀️ And what's the line between being observant and becoming paranoid?

I also wonder if this skill is just another example of how we're all competing with each other in some twisted way. Like, who needs super recognisation when you've got AI algorithms doing the heavy lifting already? 😬 But hey, at least it's a fascinating area of study, right? The more I learn about it, the more I'm convinced that our faces are like masks - we show them to the world, but they can also hold secrets and stories... 📸

I'm so done with these online tests already 🤦‍♀️! Like, can't we just admit that everyone's got some level of facial recognition skills? It's not like being a "super recogniser" is some kind of rare genetic gift or anything 😒. I mean, come on, researchers are still trying to figure out how this works, and they're basing their whole study on these super vague tests 🤔. And what about the downsides, though? Like, increased stress and social anxiety caused by constantly remembering faces? That's a pretty big deal, if you ask me 🙅‍♀️. And let's be real, it's not like being a "super recogniser" is gonna make or break someone's life 💁‍♀️. Can we just focus on the actual benefits of this skill, rather than trying to romanticize it? 😒

I'm not sure I understand how these tests work... like, are they just online quizzes that ask me to look at pictures of people I've never seen before? 🤔 And what's with all this "extracting info from facial features" business? Is it like having a superpower or something? 💫 My brain can barely remember where I put my keys, so I don't think I'm cut out for this super recogniser stuff... 😂 Do you think I'll be able to pass either of these tests? 🤞

idk how realistic these tests are gonna be 🤔 i mean, just because you're good at spotting faces doesn't mean you're some kinda superhero with a god complex lol. like, what about all the cases where people get wrong? or when you're genuinely stressed and can barely remember your own face let alone someone else's? anyway, if it does turn out you are a super recogniser, more power to ya 🤷‍♀️
