New federal hemp bill signed by Trump will ban almost all THC products in Texas starting next year

US President Donald Trump has signed a new federal hemp bill that will effectively ban nearly all THC products in Texas from next year onwards. The law, which was included in the spending bill to reopen the federal government, classifies what THC is and what hemp is, leading experts to warn that it would criminalize any amount of THC strong enough to get a person high.

The move has been welcomed by Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who had led efforts to ban consumable hemp products with THC in Texas earlier this year. However, Governor Greg Abbott vetoed the legislation, and while he later issued an executive order banning minors from THC products and requiring ID verification for customers, Patrick claimed that Trump's decision went further.

Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz have expressed differing views on the bill, with Cornyn supporting it and Cruz opposing it, arguing that states should regulate hemp and marijuana. Amidst the division, there is confusion about how the new law will be enforced and what its impact will be for the state's 9,000 stores selling THC products.

According to experts, including Jon Bowman, owner of Bluebonnet Labs in Dallas, the law would effectively shut down all legal THC sales in Texas due to its strict threshold for allowed THC levels. One product tested by ABC13 was found to contain more than 755 times the limit set by the new law, highlighting the significant issue with enforcement.

Drug policy fellow at Rice University, Dr. Katie Harris, warned that while there is a responsibility for the state to protect public safety and not encourage heavy use of THC products, the current lack of regulation could have unintended consequences.

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ this law is gonna be super hard to enforce in texas - like what's with all these strict rules on thc levels? can't they just regulate it like any other product? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ and i'm also worried about the impact on the 9,000 stores selling thc products... how r they supposed to just shut down overnight? πŸ’Έ it's not gonna be pretty. i hope they have a plan in place for all these affected businesses... πŸ‘€

I'm getting super concerned about this new hemp bill in Texas πŸ€•! It's like, what even is the point of having 9,000 stores selling THC products if they're just gonna get shut down next year? 🚫 I mean, I get that some people think it's a good idea to regulate hemp, but come on, don't we want to make sure our citizens are safe and informed about what they're putting in their bodies?

It's also kinda weird that the law is so strict about THC levels - like, who determines what's "safe" anyway? πŸ€” And what's gonna happen when the law gets enforced? Are stores just gonna get shut down overnight without warning? It doesn't seem like a very considerate or effective plan to me.

I'm all for protecting public safety and all that, but we need to make sure we're doing it in a way that's fair and reasonable. We can't just blanket everything with one set of rules without considering the potential consequences πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. It's like, let's take a step back and think this through before we start making laws that could have some serious unintended effects 😬

omg u guys i just saw this news and i'm like totally confused lol what's even the deal with hemp and THC they're like 2 different things right? but now it sounds like trump is kinda banning them in texas which is weird because isn't that kinda states rights stuff or something πŸ€” anyway i'm worried about those stores selling thc products cuz one of them was found to have way too much thc in it and i don't wanna see people get hurt πŸ’€ and what's up with cornyn supporting this bill tho? shouldn't he be more worried about the people who are gonna lose their jobs because of this πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

πŸ€” I'm low-key worried about this new hemp bill in Texas... it seems like it's gonna be super hard for people to get their hands on THC products without breaking the law 🚫. The fact that experts are saying it'll shut down all legal sales is just crazy πŸ€‘. And what about all those small businesses relying on THC product sales? πŸ€• I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole thing plays out πŸ“. One thing's for sure, the lack of regulation could lead to some major issues πŸ”₯...

omg I cant even believe this just went down 🀯! like, dont get me wrong i get why ppl wanna regulate stuff but its kinda harsh 9k stores shut down ? what about all those legit businesses and ppl who rely on these products? cant we find a middle ground? idk how they think theyre gonna enforce this tho lol πŸ€” isnt that just gonna lead to some crazy long lines at dispensaries?

I'm low-key worried about this new hemp bill πŸ€”. I mean, who gets to decide what's 'allowed' in terms of THC levels? It seems like a recipe for disaster, especially with all those stores selling THC products already. The fact that a single product tested had more than 755 times the limit set by the law is wild 😲. I'm not sure if I agree with Lt. Governor Patrick's stance on this one, but I do think we need to have a more nuanced discussion about how to regulate these products safely and responsibly. I'd love to see some more research done on the potential consequences of this new law before it gets enforced πŸ“Š.

I'm low-key worried about this new hemp bill in Texas πŸ€”. It's like, they're trying to regulate it one way, but it's not that simple. The fact that a product with 755 times the allowed THC level can still be considered illegal is crazy πŸ’₯. I mean, what's going to happen when people are trying to buy these products from those 9,000 stores? They're just gonna shut down or something? 🚫 It's not fair to the customers who are already following the law and using these products responsibly.

And then there's this thing about experts warning that it could lead to unintended consequences... like what? I don't know, but it doesn't feel good. I'm all for public safety, but can't we just find a middle ground here? Maybe some kind of regulated system where people can still use these products without fear of getting in trouble? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Texas just got lit πŸš’ and it's not in a good way 😬. The new hemp bill will totally wipe out their entire industry. Who knew Trump would be the one to help Dan Patrick get his way? 🀣 Not sure if Abbott's ID verification was enough to save the day, guess we'll see how this plays out in court... βš–οΈ

the fact that trump's administration can just dictate what's allowed in texas w/o even consulting the governor or lawmakers is concerning πŸ€”. it feels like overreach and disregard for state autonomy. meanwhile, experts are saying one product had way more THC than allowed by law... how will they enforce this without crippling all sales? 🚨

So this hemp bill thingy, I gotta say, it's like the fed gov't trying to dictate what we can and can't do on our own turf... or in this case, Texas soil 🌽️. It's like, what's next? They gonna tell us how to grow our own weed at home too?

I mean, come on, President Trump, you're a businessman, don't you know the importance of competition and state's rights? You're basically telling states like Texas that we can't even control our own industries anymore. It's like, what kind of country are we living in here?

And let's be real, this bill is gonna hurt small businesses and everyday Texans who just want to enjoy some CBD oil or whatever without all the THC drama 🀯. I'm all for public safety, but can't we do that through regulation instead of straight-up bans? It's like Governor Abbott vetoed it because he knew how much Texas folks love their hemp products...

This bill is like a classic case of federal overreach... and it's gonna be interesting to see how states like Colorado and California react when they hear about this new law πŸ€‘. Mark my words, this is just the beginning of a long and messy debate about state vs fed gov't...

🀯 I mean, come on... who wants a blanket ban on hemp products in Texas? It's like they're trying to make everyone's life more complicated than it needs to be. πŸ™„ And don't even get me started on the THC levels - 755 times the limit is just crazy talk! Like, how are people supposed to know what's safe and what's not?

I'm not surprised that Governor Abbott vetoed the law, though. He was always a bit of a straight-laced guy, you know? But Lt. Gov Patrick's all smiles about this... like he's some kind of hemp superhero or something πŸ˜‚.

And can we talk about how these politicians are suddenly experts on drug policy? It's like they're trying to sound more knowledgeable than they actually are πŸ€“. I mean, shouldn't states just regulate hemp and marijuana like everyone else?

This whole thing just feels like a mess to me... like they're not thinking about the consequences of their actions. We'll see how this plays out in practice, but for now, it's just a bunch of confusion and frustration πŸ€”

I'm not surprised tbh πŸ€”... Trump's already proven himself to be super reactive & unpredictable on so many issues. First off, it's like, what even is the point of having a 'legal' market for hemp products if it's just gonna get shut down? It's like, Texas is gonna lose out on some serious tax revenue πŸ€‘... and all those small businesses are gonna be forced to close shop πŸ’Έ.

And don't even get me started on the whole 'regulation' thing πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Like, if states should regulate hemp & marijuana, shouldn't we be having a national conversation about it instead of just getting US President Trump's opinion? πŸ™„ I mean, Dr. Katie Harris is spot on tho - the lack of regulation can lead to some serious consequences... like more people getting high & messed up πŸ’₯.

And what's with all the back-and-forth between Senators Cornyn & Cruz? Can't they just agree on something for once? πŸ˜’ It's all just a big mess πŸ“¦.

man this is gonna be a disaster 🀯 texas is already super conservative but now they're just gonna shut down all their hemp shops? like what's next? are they gonna ban CBD oil too? and what about people who actually use it for medicinal purposes? it's gonna cause so much trouble πŸ™„ i mean governor abbott said he'd only ban minors, but trump is like "nope, you're good" πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ meanwhile texas senators cornyn and cruz are just sitting there like "oh wait, we didn't see this coming" πŸ˜’ the only person who seems to know what's going on is that one guy from rice university, but even he's saying it could have unintended consequences πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ i'm low-key worried about how this is gonna play out πŸ€”

πŸ€” this is crazy man... think they're gonna shut down all those stores in texas selling hemp stuff what's next? 🚫 i guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out experts say the law would be too strict and might even criminalize people for having tiny amounts of THC in their products 🀯 and now texas senators are already at each other over this bill πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ like, can't they all just agree on something? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I'm like super stoked about this new federal hemp bill 🀩! I mean, it's gonna be a game changer for the CBD industry in Texas, no cap! The law is pretty clear on what hemp and THC are, so it should make things easier to regulate and enforce πŸ”’. I'm all about keeping our communities safe, especially when it comes to substances that can have a strong impact on people's lives 🀝.

But, for real though, I'm worried about the enforcement aspect of this law πŸ€”. If Texas is gonna shut down all THC sales due to the strict limit, what's gonna happen to all those 9,000 stores selling these products? It's like, are they just gonna be forced outta business overnight? πŸ€‘

I think we need to have a more nuanced conversation about this issue, you know? We should be looking at ways to educate people on the risks and benefits of THC products, rather than just shutting them down altogether πŸ’‘. Let's get some experts in there to weigh in and figure out a solution that works for everyone 🀝!

omg this new hemp bill in texas is wild 🀯! i dont think its fair that trump signed this bill without even consulting texas lawmakers first πŸ™„ like what about all those stores that are gonna get shut down? and experts say it would be super hard to enforce the new limits on thc levels, thats just gonna lead to more confusion πŸ˜• im not surprised that governors abbot and patrick have different opinions on this though, but hopefully they can figure out a way to make it work 🀞

omg what's goin on here lol so trump just signs this federal hemp bill & now texas has to follow suit? like wut even is the diff b/w hemp & thc anyway? it feels like they're just makin a big ol mess πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ anyhoo, i gotta agree with cruz tho - states r better equipped 2 handle their own reg's on hemp & marijuana. this federal gov't thingy is just gonna create more probs than solvin' them πŸ˜’

This whole hemp thing 🌿 is getting outta hand! I mean, Trump signs this bill and now it's like all THC products are gonna be illegal in Texas next year? That's just crazy! 😲 Like, what's the point of having a law that makes most THC products off limits if they're not even gonna regulate them properly? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline ⛽️

I'm all for public safety and stuff, but can't we just find some middle ground here? 😊 Like, maybe have some regulations that make sense instead of just banning everything? 🚫 And what about the 9,000 stores selling THC products in Texas? Are they just gonna shut down overnight? 🀯 That's just devastating for the economy and people who rely on those businesses.

I'm reading a lot about this now and it seems like nobody really knows how this law is gonna be enforced πŸ€”. I mean, what's gonna happen to all these products that are already out there? πŸ“¦ Are they just gonna get destroyed or something? πŸ’₯ It's just so confusing! 😩
