New Pornographers Plot Return With New Album, 'The Former Site Of'

Canadian Indie Rock Supergroup New Pornographers Reveal New Album 'The Former Site Of' After Traumatic Experience

After a three-year hiatus and the arrest of their drummer Joe Seiders on child pornography charges, the New Pornographers are finally returning with their new LP 'The Former Site Of'. The album is set to drop on March 27, accompanied by the release of lead single "Votive".

The band's core lineup of Neko Case, John Collins, Carl Newman, Todd Fancey, and Kathryn Calder remains intact. Although drummer Joe Seiders has been let go after being arrested, he was temporarily replaced during the recording process with session drummer Charley Drayton.

According to an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone in November 2025, lead vocalist Carl Newman expressed his intentions for this new record: "This new record was just going farther down a path I wanted to go to on [2023’s] Continue as a Guest...". He elaborated that he aimed to make life more interesting and create a narrative-driven album.

However, the process was marred by trauma when Seiders' arrest hit the news in April 2025. The band fired him immediately, erased his work from the album, and brought in Drayton to redo the tracks. Newman described it as "dark, weird, and confusing," stating that he was afraid for their children's safety.

For a moment, they even considered changing their name, but a friend intervened, reminding them of the hard work invested into building their iconic moniker. The New Pornographers will kick off an extensive U.S. tour on April 22 in Boston, wrapping up May 21 in Washington, D.C., accompanied by Will Sheff from Okkervil River.

The album features ten short stories of people at personal and societal extremes, with each track showcasing the band's signature blend of indie rock and narrative storytelling.

[Arthur's Face meme] πŸ€‘πŸ˜’ They're back with a new album! I guess you could say they've been through some drama πŸ’”πŸŽΈ "Votive" is out March 27... can't wait to hear it πŸ”ŠπŸ’₯ [Distracted GIF of a cat watching music videos]

I gotta disagree, this whole thing feels like a publicity stunt to me πŸ€”. I mean, who gets fired from their own band due to some weird legal drama and then suddenly drops a new album just because? And what's with the trauma vibes? It sounds like they're trying too hard to be artsy and deep. Newsflash: it's still just indie rock music, folks! πŸ˜‚ I'm not buying the whole "narrative-driven" thing either - it's just a fancy way of saying "we can't figure out what we want, so let's write some songs". Give me a break! 🎸

It's fascinating to see how a traumatic experience can propel an artist to create something truly remarkable 🌟. The New Pornographers' new album 'The Former Site Of' seems like a testament to Carl Newman's resilience in the face of adversity. I'm intrigued by the idea that he aimed to make life more interesting with this record, and it sounds like he was able to tap into some darker emotions during the creative process πŸ’”.

I do think it's cool how the band came together as a unit, even after facing such a difficult situation. The fact that they were willing to erase Seiders' work from the album and start anew is really admirable 🎨. And I love how they're sticking with their iconic name – it says a lot about the importance of their bond and artistic identity πŸ”’.

Overall, I'm looking forward to hearing more about this new record and experiencing the band's unique blend of indie rock and narrative storytelling live on tour πŸ’₯. Will Sheff joining them as an opener is also a great addition!

OMG, I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE NEW PORNographers ALBUM!!! 🀩 IT'S BEEN SUCH A WAIT AND ALL THOSE DRUMMER PROBLEMS WERE SO INTENSE BUT I KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO CRUSH IT WITH THIS ONE! πŸ’₯ i love that they're making it narrative-driven and stuff, sounds so DEEP AND EMOTIONAL πŸ”Š THE SONG TITLES SOUND SO INTERESTING TOO 🎡 "Votive" is already giving me LIFE!!! πŸ’–

man... i'm glad they're finally back πŸ™Œ after that crazy drama 🀯... three years is a long time to be on hiatus, you feel? and now that drummer joe seiders got busted for child porn charges... it's like, what even happened there? 😱 anyway, it sounds like the band went through some major trauma when seiders' arrest hit the news... they had to erase his work from the album, redo all the tracks with a new drummer charley drayton... and carl newman was literally freaking out about their kids' safety 🀯

but despite all that, it seems like they're still super dedicated to creating this narrative-driven album πŸ“š... ten short stories of people at personal and societal extremes? that sounds so cool 🎸 i love how they're pushing the boundaries with their music... and now that they're finally back on tour, can't wait to see them live πŸ”₯ will sheff from okkervil river is opening for them too? that's a sick lineup πŸ’₯

🎸 I'm all about this new album, 'The Former Site Of'! I mean, three years is a long time, and you can't help but wonder what happened during that hiatus πŸ€”. But Carl Newman's vision for the record sounds super intriguing - it's like they're taking us on a journey to explore some of life's darker corners... or maybe just some really interesting people? 😬 I love how they went through all this trauma and came out with something so beautiful! That session drummer Charley Drayton must be a lifesaver πŸ™. And 10 short stories, you say? I'm down for that! Can't wait to hear "Votive" on March 27th... gonna make some noise 🎡

I'm kinda worried about the lead singer Carl Newman after hearing about that traumatic experience... I mean, they had to redo whole tracks because one of their members got arrested for some weird stuff 🀯. And now they're talking about making life more interesting on this new album... it's like, are they trying to distract us from what really happened? But at the same time, they're still putting out an amazing-sounding album with a bunch of cool songs 🎸. I'm gonna give it a listen and see how it goes, but for now, I just hope everyone involved is doing okay πŸ‘

man I'm so hyped for this new album 🀩! i mean can you imagine how intense it must've been for the guys to go through that traumatic experience & still come out with an album that sounds as iconic as their previous work? 🌊 especially after all they went through, it's amazing that Carl Newman is able to channel his emotions into something so beautiful. the fact that they were even considering changing their name is wild, but thankfully a friend stepped in and reminded them of where they came from πŸ’ͺ. anyhoo can't wait for march 27 to roll around & get my hands on 'The Former Site Of' 🎡

πŸ€” The New Pornographers are back after a super tough time πŸ™. I'm glad they're moving forward and creating music again πŸ’–. It's crazy how one person's actions can affect everyone else, right? 😱 I mean, it's not just the band members, but also their kids who were affected by Joe Seiders' arrest πŸ€•. I hope the album brings them some healing and closure πŸ’«. The fact that they stuck to their name despite considering a change shows how much it means to them ❀️. Can't wait to listen to "The Former Site Of" on March 27 🎡!

omg i'm literally shook just thinking about joe seiders arrest 🀯 how could this happen to an amazing band like new pornographers?? but on a more positive note, 'the former site of' album is sounding SO GOOD!!! 🎸 i mean, ten short stories that blend indie rock and narrative storytelling? yeah please! carl newman's always been my fave lead vocalist anyway, his vocals are just so smooth 😍 can't wait to get my hands on this album on march 27!!! πŸŽ‰

πŸ€” I feel bad for the drummer Joe Seiders, his mistake was huge and it's gonna be hard for him to get back on track after that kinda situation... but good for The New Pornographers they're moving forward with their new album, I love their music and I'm excited to hear this new one, 'The Former Site Of' sounds really interesting, a narrative-driven album, that's something new from them... 🎸

Omg I'm so hyped for their new album!!! I love Neko Case's vocals on "Continue as a Guest" too 😍 and now I gotta hear what she can do with this new record. The fact that they went through all that drama just makes the music more special, you know? 🀯 like it's not just a product but an experience πŸ’– And I'm curious about Will Sheff joining them on tour, he's always been cool on Okkervil River

Idk if I'd wanna listen to an album made after some pretty heavy drama - drummer gets arrested for child porn charges and the whole band has to redo their tracks? That's some wild stuff 🀯 And now they're gonna tour? I mean, I guess it's good that they're moving forward and all, but can't we just wait until they've got their story together before we dive in? Also, didn't someone say they considered changing their name? Like, what's the point of that? πŸ€” They've already built up this iconic moniker over years...

I'm kinda glad they're finally releasing new music after that crazy drama πŸ™... I mean, can you imagine having to redo all those tracks? 😲 Charley Drayton's session work must've been a lifesaver for them! πŸ’ͺ As for the song "Votive" – it sounds like Carl Newman is really getting into this narrative-driven vibe. It's interesting how he wants to create a story with this album... makes me wonder if each track will have its own mini-narrative πŸ“šπŸ’«

just got word about new pornographers' comeback 🀩 they've been through some wild stuff, man... drummer joe seiders arrested on child porn charges, what even is that? anyway, it sounds like they're trying to shake off the darkness with their new album 'the former site of'. 10 short stories, narrative-driven, indie rock vibes... kinda refreshing after all the drama. can't wait for march 27 🎢

🀣 Oh man, a supergroup that's gone through some drama! Like, who needs child porn charges when you've got creative differences? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, I'm stoked they're back with new music - it sounds like they've been busy writing their own twisted stories πŸ“šπŸ’₯. And omg, 10 short stories on one album? That's like a book club for your ears πŸ“–! Can't wait to dive into 'The Former Site Of' and see what kind of weirdness Carl Newman has in store for us 😜. Tour dates are just around the corner - time to rock out with Will Sheff from Okkervil River! 🎸

🀯 I'm so hyped for this new album!!! I mean, the New Pornographers have been my fave band forever! 🎸 The fact that they're back with a new record after all that drama is just amazing. I love how Carl Newman's vision has taken shape on this album... it's like you can hear his passion and emotions pouring out through the lyrics 🎢 "Votive" already sounds so good, but I'm sure the whole album is going to be fire πŸ”₯ Can't wait to get my hands on March 27th! 🀩
