The news about California's budget deficit
... I feel bad for Gavin Newsom, he's got a big challenge on his hands. I mean, $2.9 billion is still a lot to make up for, especially since the state has been losing billions in federal funding. It's like trying to balance a seesaw that keeps getting knocked off.
I'm not sure how much of this budget plan people will actually agree with. I know Governor Newsom wants to keep his progressive policies alive, but at what cost? And what about those county officials who are worried about reduced support for local programs? It's like, you gotta balance the books, but you also can't forget about the people who need help.
I do think it's good that he's prioritizing public education and homelessness initiatives, though. We should be investing in our schools and helping those in need. But maybe they could've found ways to make the budget more transparent and responsible without sacrificing so much?
