NFL: How Harry Kane's dream of becoming a kicker could become a reality

Harry Kane, the England men's football captain, has long been fascinated by the NFL and has even mentioned that he dreams of becoming an American football kicker. The 32-year-old striker has always been drawn to the sport, citing Tom Brady as one of his biggest inspirations. After a conversation with football writer Henry Winter last September, Kane revealed that he believes he could succeed in the NFL within three years.

Winter stated that if Kane were to focus on training and practice, he would have a good chance of becoming an NFL kicker. The former Austria footballer Toni Fritsch is often cited as an example of someone who successfully made the transition from football to the NFL. After Pete Gogolak introduced football-style kicking to the league in the 1960s, Fritsch quit his football career at the age of 26 to pursue a career with the Dallas Cowboys.

Other notable examples include Garo Yepremian, Morten Andersen, Jan Stenerud, Toni Linhart, and Neil O'Donoghue, who all became NFL kickers after playing football in Europe. The fact that current NFL kickers Brandon Aubrey (Dallas Cowboys), Harrison Butker (Kansas City Chiefs), and Cairo Santos (Chicago Bears) have all played football suggests that Kane's chances of success are not insignificant.

Kane believes he has an advantage over younger players, citing his experience with penalty kicks as a key factor. He has scored 93 out of 105 penalties in his senior career and only missed one since his World Cup miss against France in December 2022.

The former Tottenham striker has been open about his desire to try his hand at the NFL, but he faces significant competition for a spot on an NFL team. Punters are responsible for holding the ball in place for kickers, and having a bad hold can be disastrous. As Dustin Colquitt, who helped train Kane, noted: "The guy that holds for those field goals, that is extremely important โ€“ knowing where the laces [on the ball] are, if you've got wind."

As Kane prepares to sign an extension with Bayern Munich in 2027, just before his 34th birthday, many believe it's only a matter of time before he takes the leap and becomes the first English footballer to play in the NFL.

man imagine harry kane tryin out for an nfl team lol ๐Ÿคฃ he's been talkin about this for ages and now people think he's got a shot at makin it ๐ŸŽฏ 93% penalty kicks is crazy, that's like a pro or somethin ๐Ÿ™Œ but yeah it's gonna be tough gettin in the league, gotta prove yerself ๐Ÿค”

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ I'm so stoked to see Harry Kane going for the American Football dream!!! ๐Ÿ˜† He's got the skills, defo has! 93 out of 105 penalties is insane ๐Ÿ”ฅ and it'd be lit if he became an NFL kicker ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ช. But, gotta be real, it won't be easy ๐Ÿ’”. The competition is fierce and one wrong hold can be a disaster ๐Ÿ˜‚. But Kane's got the brains & brawn, I'm all for him taking the leap! He's been inspired by Tom Brady, who knows? Maybe he'll be the next big thing ๐Ÿคž. Only time will tell, but I'd pay to see him on the gridiron ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿˆ!

๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally SHOOK by Harry Kane's confession ๐Ÿคฏ! Like, who wouldn't want to kick footballs for a living?! ๐Ÿ˜‚ He's got 93 out of 105 penalties under his belt, what more proof does he need to prove himself? ๐Ÿค” I mean, I get it, the NFL is tough, but if anyone can make it happen, it's Harry Kane! ๐Ÿ’ช The fact that Toni Fritsch and others have done it before shows us that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. ๐ŸŒŸ Can you imagine watching Harry Kane in an NFL game? ๐Ÿ˜ I'd totally be hyped! ๐ŸŽ‰ Let's get this man to the NFL already! ๐Ÿ‘Š

I think this whole thing is a classic case of a rich kid playing at the top level ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿˆ. I mean, Kane's been getting paid millions to kick a ball around for England, and now he wants to join the big leagues? It's all about the money and fame, if you ask me ๐Ÿ’ธ. What's next, is he gonna try his hand at being a Hollywood actor too? ๐Ÿคฃ

And let's be real, Kane's got no idea what it takes to play in the NFL. Just because he's good at kicking penalties for England doesn't mean he can hack it on the gridiron ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‘Š. I'm not saying it's impossible, but come on, mate, you've gotta put in the work if you wanna be taken seriously ๐Ÿ’ช.

And have you seen the number of players who have successfully made the transition from football to the NFL? It's a small group, let me tell you ๐Ÿค“. Most of them are guys like Toni Fritsch who just quit their day job to chase a dream. I'm not saying Kane shouldn't chase his dreams, but he needs to be realistic about what he can achieve ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

I'm curious to see how this whole thing plays out, but I've got my doubts ๐Ÿค”. Will Kane prove me wrong and become the first English footballer to play in the NFL? Only time will tell โฐ.

I think this is gonna be tough for Harry Kane ๐Ÿค”. I mean, sure, he's got experience with penalties and all that, but kicking a football through the air at 60+ mph is a whole different story โšฝ๏ธ. And let's not forget about the athleticism required to play NFL football โ€“ it's not just about kicking a ball, you need to be able to run, cut, and catch too ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I'm not saying Kane can't do it, but three years is a pretty tight timeline โฐ. And what about the whole "punter" thing? That's like, a whole different skillset from kicking a football ๐Ÿ‘€. I think it's great that Kane wants to try something new, but let's not count him out just yet ๐Ÿ˜Š. Maybe he can train with some of these NFL kickers to learn their techniques ๐Ÿค. Wouldn't be surprised if we see him on an NFL field within the next few years though โšก๏ธ!

I'm not sure if Harry Kane is crazy for thinking he can make the jump to American football ๐Ÿค”... I mean, I love the guy and all, but kicking a ball through a big hoop in the NFL seems like a whole different beast compared to scoring goals on the pitch ๐Ÿ˜‚. Still, it's gotta be cool to have that kind of determination and passion for something other than just football.

And who knows, maybe Kane can learn from some of those examples you mentioned (Fritsch, Yepremian, Linhart...). They all had to adapt to a new sport and make the transition work. But I'm not sure if his experience as a goal-scorer translates directly to being an NFL kicker ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Either way, it's gonna be interesting to watch and see how he handles it! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg did u see that stat about harry kane scoring 93 out of 105 penalties lol 88% is insane ๐Ÿคฏ! i mean Kane's got the skills, but the nfl is a whole different beast ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ช it's gonna be super tough for him to make the cut. btw did u know that american football kickers only make up like 10% of the team? ๐Ÿค” the punters are like the unsung heroes holding down the fort while the kicker's out there trying to nail those 50-yarders ๐Ÿ˜…. and can we talk about how crazy it is that Kane's got an advantage over younger players just because of his experience? ๐Ÿค“ the dude's been practicing penalty kicks for years! ๐Ÿ”ฅ also, have u seen the stats on NFL kickers vs Europeans? Like, Kane's not the only one trying to make the switch ๐ŸŒŽ

โšฝ๏ธ I think Harry Kane's foray into American football is intriguing, but also fraught with challenges ๐Ÿค”. While his experience with penalty kicks could indeed be an asset, the physical demands of NFL kicking are vastly different from those of professional soccer โšฝ๏ธ. The technical skills required to kick a ball through uprights in a high-pressure environment would need significant development ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Moreover, Kane's size and position as a striker might make it harder for him to adapt to the more specialized role of an NFL kicker ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Still, his enthusiasm and dedication to training are laudable ๐Ÿ’ช. The fact that some European footballers have successfully transitioned to the NFL suggests that it's not impossible, but it would be exciting to see Kane give it a shot ๐Ÿ˜Š!

๐Ÿคฏ Can't believe Harry Kane is serious about becoming an NFL kicker! ๐Ÿˆ I mean, we've seen him score some crazy penalties for England, but this is on a whole different level ๐Ÿ˜‚. The fact that he's got 93 out of 105 penalty kicks down his sleeve is insane ๐Ÿ™Œ. If he can bring that same precision and skill to the NFL, who knows? Maybe he'll be the first English footballer to make it big in the league ๐Ÿ’ฅ. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense โ€“ he's already got experience with high-pressure situations and can handle the physicality of football (and potentially American football too ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ). We might see him trading in his boots for cleats sooner rather than later ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿˆ!

im not sure if harry kane is ready for the nfl ๐Ÿค”, i mean he's got some big shoes to fill with tom brady being his idol... Kane has been pretty clutch with penalties, but kicking in the nfl is a whole different story... plus those punters gotta hold that ball steady or else its all over ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿคฃ imagine harry kane as a pro nfl kicker lol what would the english football fans think? "our guy is getting his butt kicked by americans all day" ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ would be hilarious. but seriously, if he does make the jump i'd pay to watch him try and kick a 60-yarder ๐Ÿ˜…

I'm intrigued by Harry Kane's aspirations to kick for the NFL ๐Ÿค”. I mean, the guy's got skills on the pitch and accuracy on penalties - that's gotta count for something? But, is he really ready for the speed and physicality of American football? I don't think it'd be an easy transition, especially considering how specialized a kicker needs to be in this league ๐Ÿˆ. Still, you've got to admire his enthusiasm and confidence - if anyone can make it happen, it's him ๐Ÿ’ช.

Man... Kane thinks he can just quit football and become an American football kicker overnight? ๐Ÿคฃ Like that's gonna happen. He's 32, what does he know about American football? I mean, yeah, Tom Brady is a legend and all, but Kane's got experience with penalties, not kicking field goals in the middle of nowhere USA ๐Ÿ˜‚. And don't even get me started on the punters, dude... holding onto that ball for a split second can make or break a kick. I'd bet my life on Kane failing miserably before he even gets to the NFL ๐Ÿค‘.

I'd love to see Harry Kane try out for the NFL ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿˆ. He seems super confident about making the cut, and who wouldn't want to see an English striker in a jersey? ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง But seriously, have you seen his penalty kick stats? 93/105 ain't bad at all! ๐Ÿ’ช The problem is, it's not just about kicking the ball, it's about the whole field game. They gotta practice holding the ball for those kicks, and it's a tough position to master. ๐Ÿค”

Imagine Kane on the NFL field, though ๐ŸŽฏ! Tom Brady would be so proud of him ๐Ÿ˜Š. It'd be awesome to see him bring his skills over to American football. Maybe we'll see him as a kicker, or even better yet, a punter? ๐Ÿคฃ Who knows? Either way, I'm rooting for the guy ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ช.

Im not sure about this Harry Kane thing... I mean, he's definitely got skills on the pitch, but American football is a whole different beast ๐Ÿค”. It'd be a massive leap for him to make, especially with all these experienced kickers already out there. But at the same time, 93% penalty kicks is no joke! ๐Ÿ† Kane's got the accuracy and composure, so it's not entirely impossible that he could pick up an NFL kicker role in a few years' time... but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet ๐Ÿ˜…. One thing for sure is that his Bayern Munich extension deal better be lucrative or he might be forced to reconsider this whole NFL dreams ๐Ÿค‘.

I gotta say, I'm intrigued by Harry Kane's desire to join the NFL ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿˆ. The guy's got skills on the pitch, no doubt about that. But, I mean, have you seen those guys kicking field goals in the NFL? It's like a whole different sport! ๐Ÿคฏ Still, if anyone can make it happen, it's Kane. He's always been one for taking risks and pushing himself to be better. And with all those Europeans who made the transition from football to the NFL, maybe he'll have a leg up (pun intended) ๐Ÿ˜„. But seriously, it'd be awesome to see him take on the challenge. Who knows, maybe we'll see him kicking field goals in no time ๐ŸŽ‰!

man can u imagine harry kane running down the pitch instead of the nfl field lol ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ but seriously, i think its awesome that he's passionate about another sport & has skills to back it up. he's got some good points about his penalty kick experience which could serve him well in the nfl. and let's be real, americans love a good underdog story so who knows maybe harry kane will be the next big thing in the nfl ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ช
