NJ resumes SNAP payments even as Trump administration fights court order

NJ Resumes Food Assistance Payments Amid Trump Administration's Delay Tactics

The Garden State has resumed paying out federal food assistance benefits, with the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) fully funding November's benefits following a federal court ruling. This move comes as the Trump administration continues to fight an order from a Rhode Island judge requiring full payments and the release of funds to states.

A state DHS official stated that recipients who were set to receive payments this week can now expect them on their EBT cards. However, Commissioner Sarah Adelman emphasized that those able should also continue looking for ways to provide additional support, as the delay will have a lasting impact on many families and food banks and pantries.

The delay in SNAP payments was unprecedented, leaving hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans without access to food assistance. The state's DHS has acknowledged that this situation shouldn't have occurred and expressed gratitude for the court's intervention.

In a similar move, New York officials announced that recipients will begin seeing their full benefits on Sunday, with about 3 million residents relying on SNAP in the state. This development comes as the Trump administration appeals the Rhode Island judge's order asking for an emergency pause to the ruling.

The resumption of food assistance payments highlights the need for immediate action from policymakers to address delays and ensure access to vital programs like SNAP.

OMG u guys 🀯! I'm literally so relieved that NJ is finally getting back on track with food assistance payments!!! πŸ˜‚ I was literally freaking out when I found out those hundreds of thousands of ppl were gonna be left without food cuz the Trump admin was being all draggy about it πŸ™„. It's like, come on guys, ppl are actually struggling here! πŸ€• At least the NJ DHS is stepping up and funding benefits already, but can't we just get a straight answer from the feds already?! 🚫? I'm also super hyped that NYC is getting its full benefits too - 3 million people counting on SNAP is a lot, fam! πŸ’―

🀩 yaaassss!! finally NJ is gettin it together and payin out those food assistance benefits πŸ™Œ! I'm so glad that the court stepped in and said no more delay tactics πŸ’β€β™€οΈ, our fams deserve better 😊. It's like, what even is the point of having a system if you're just gonna keep people in the dark? πŸ˜’ I know it's not the end of the story but at least we can start seein some progress now 🌈! We gotta keep pushin for that full payment and an end to these delays πŸ’ͺ, our communities need it ❀️.

🀯 I'm so relieved that New Jersey is finally getting its food assistance benefits back on track πŸ’ͺ! It's just not right that people had to go without food for this long πŸ”πŸ˜©. I mean, can you even imagine having to choose between paying bills and buying groceries? Not a great situation 😬. And now that the court ruling has been upheld, it's about time the Trump administration starts taking responsibility for their delays πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. We need more states stepping up like NJ and NY are doing πŸ‘. Food banks and pantries were already stretched thin, this delay was just salt in the wound πŸ’Έ. Let's hope other states follow suit soon 🀞!

OMG 🀯 I'm so relieved that NJ is back on track with their food assistance payments!!! Like, can you even imagine how stressful it must be for those families who were waiting on edge for their EBT cards? It's crazy that the feds were holding up these payments like they did. And now, NY is doing the same thing too? πŸ™Œ I'm all about supporting our food banks and pantries, we need to make sure everyone has access to healthy food, you know? πŸ”πŸ₯— The longer these delays happen, it's gonna be a major issue for so many people. Let's hope politicians take note and do something ASAP! πŸ’ͺ

I'm really not sure why we gotta have all these court battles over stuff like this πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ... I mean, can't they just figure out a way to get the payments out already? Thousands of people in New Jersey were left without food because of some delay, and now it's like "oh well, good luck finding food". And on top of that, there's still all these appeals going on... what's taking so long? πŸ•°οΈ Can't we just have our food assistance paid out without all the drama?

man i feel so bad 4 those families in nj who went w/o their food assistance bennies 4 weeks πŸ€• they must've been super stressed & anxious, not knowing when they'd get their next meal. but yay for the court's intervention & NJ DHS stepping up to fund november's benefits πŸ™Œ hopefully this move sets a precedent 4 other states 2 follow suit & we can start seein some real change 🚨
