omg this is amazing news ! i'm literally so hyped for all the low income fams in NYC who were about to get hit with those crazy rent hikes thank god the council stepped in and saved the day this is exactly what we need more ppl advocating for affordable housing and rental subsidies it's not just about getting ppl out of shelters, it's about helping them stay housed and stable gotta keep repping for the underdog
omg u guys!! i cant beleive the NYC council just overrode mayors veto 2! they did it 4 low income fams who rely on the cityfheps voucher program - that's literally lifesaving stuff . i mean i get why mayor adams wanted 2 raise the rent contrib, but come on 40% is just too much . advocates 4 affordable housing & rental subs r all about it & its awesome 2 see the council standin 4 the people esp Speaker Adrienne Adams she said it best "abdicates his responsibility" lol what a quote!
omg u guys can't believe what just happened in NYC ! so like they were gonna raise rent payments for ppl on the low income housing voucher program from 30% of their income to 40%?? no way! the council all stood up for those families and vetoed it, now they don't have to pay that much anymore i'm literally screaming with joy, this is a huge win for affordability and equity . and can we talk about how some ppl are trying to spin this as the mayor "abdicating his responsibility"?? come on like the council is doing its job and standing up for the people!
I'm not sure why we're making such a big deal about this. It's just rent control, right? But I guess it's better than some of those other bills that got overridden recently... like the pay equity one. That seemed kinda fishy to me. Anyway, I don't get why they can't just negotiate with the mayor instead of overruling him. It feels like a bunch of backroom politics to me...
I think its awesome that the NYC council stood up for low-income families who need affordable housing . Like, increasing rent contributions from 30% to 40% would be a huge burden for many households already struggling to make ends meet . The city should focus on building more affordable units and finding ways to reduce costs instead of passing the buck . I'd love to see a flowchart or a mind map showing all the different stakeholders involved in this issue, including the council, mayor, advocacy groups, and households affected by the rent hike .
