Two men have lost their lives in separate shootings in Manhattan and the Bronx on Sunday. The latest two victims were identified as 39-year-old Gibson Winters, who was shot multiple times near Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, and 24-year-old Randy Blanche from Tremont in the Bronx.
According to NYPD officials, Winters died after being taken to a hospital with severe injuries sustained during the shooting at around 4:15 am. The motive behind his killing is still unknown, and police are working to determine whether he was targeted for any reason.
Meanwhile, Blanche was found unconscious outside a residential building in Morris Heights around 8 pm on Sunday, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. First responders rushed him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries before being pronounced dead.
While police are reviewing surveillance footage and trying to piece together what happened, they have yet to identify any suspects or make an arrest in either case. They did report that a person was seen wearing a black and orange coat near the scene of Blanche's murder, but it's unclear if this individual is connected to the crime.
Gun violence has been on the decline in Manhattan's Midtown North Precinct so far this year compared to the same point last year. There were five additional homicides and four other shootings in the area beyond Sunday's incident, according to NYPD data.
However, a different precinct where Blanche was killed saw a significant decrease in gun-related incidents from 2024. The precinct, which includes Morris Heights, University Heights, and Mount Hope, had reported 25 homicides by mid-November last year, whereas this year only seven cases have been reported, including Sunday's incident.
The NYPD is urging anyone with information about these shootings to come forward.
