On the frontlines of the fight for a bird-friendly NYC

I gotta say, the fact that volunteers are taking to the skies to rescue birds stuck in NYC buildings is actually kinda awesome πŸ¦…πŸ’‘. It's amazing how dedicated people like Melissa and Dustin are to making a difference in their community.

At the same time, though, it's hard not to think about all the other birds who aren't so lucky... I mean, 90k-230k fatalities per year is some pretty scary stats 😨. And let's be real, even with legislation like Local Law 15 in place, there are still a lot of reflective glass surfaces and lights out there that are gonna keep on killing birds.

I think the idea of "lights-out legislation" is super reasonable, though πŸŒƒ. It's not too much to ask for some common sense when it comes to protecting our feathered friends. Fingers crossed that we can make some progress on this front soon!

I'm so sorry about all the birds dying in NYC πŸ˜”. It's crazy to think there are 90,000 to 230,000 bird fatalities every year just from buildings and lights. They need our help ASAP πŸ•°οΈ. I love that Project Safe Flight has grown into a network of volunteers – they're really making a difference with their data collection πŸ’‘. We gotta keep pushing for those "lights-out legislation" changes, though... it's time to shine some light on this issue (get it?) ✨. Can we please make our city more bird-friendly by 2030? 🌟

man... i remember when i was a kid in nyc, birds were like everywhere! we used to catch 'em and release 'em all the time. now its all about saving them from the buildings πŸ¦πŸ˜”. i feel bad for melissa breyer and dustin partridge, they sound like they're doing some serious work here. 200 volunteers is crazy! and $90k to $230k birds dying every year? that's a lot of feathered friends lost πŸ’”. but i guess its about time we take action. lights-out legislation sounds like a good start... maybe one day we can have a city where birds aren't just surviving, they're thriving 🌞🐦

πŸ¦πŸ’‘ OMG, 230k bird deaths a year? That's crazy! We need to do more to help our feathered friends. I think "lights-out legislation" is a great idea πŸŒƒπŸ’«. It's not that hard to make non-essential lighting switch off during migration seasons. Can't we just be kinder to the birds, you know? πŸ€—

Also, I love how Project Safe Flight has grown into a network of over 200 volunteers! That's amazing πŸ’ͺ. And it's great to see the NYC Bird Alliance working with the city council to make changes πŸŒ†.

We need more people like Melissa and Dustin Partridge, fighting for bird-friendly cities 🌟. It's not just about saving birds, but also about preserving our ecosystem and making our world a better place πŸŒΏπŸ’š

I'm so glad there are still some optimistic voices out there πŸ’•. Let's keep pushing for change and make a difference for these beautiful creatures 🐦❀️

I'm not sure about these volunteers taking to the skies πŸ€”... I mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that they're passionate about saving birds, but isn't this just a case of a Band-Aid solution? Like, we need to cover up the reflective glass and lights, but what about the actual problem? We still have these tall buildings with reflective surfaces, and people are still driving at night... πŸš—πŸ’‘

I'm all for helping out, but can't we just make our cities a little more bird-friendly in the first place? Like, design buildings with bird safety in mind from the start? Or install smart lighting systems that don't blind birds? It seems like a no-brainer to me... πŸŒ†πŸ’‘

And have you seen those "freezers full of dead birds" Dustin Partridge talks about? 🀒 That's just heartbreaking. We need more than just volunteers to fix this problem – we need systemic change! πŸ’ͺ
