Orioles lose hard-throwing righty George Soriano to Braves

Baltimore Orioles Give Up on Hard-Throwing Righty George Soriano to Braves in Shuffle of Offseason Moves.

The Baltimore Orioles are known for being one of the most active teams during the offseason, but it appears they've been outmaneuvered by their rivals this time around. The Atlanta Braves have swooped up right-handed pitcher George Soriano, who was designated for assignment by the Orioles just a week ago to make room for outfielder Jhonkensy Noel.

Soriano, a hard-throwing righty with an average fastball velocity of 95.7 mph, was picked up on waivers by the Braves on Friday. This move is seen as a sign of desperation from both teams to bolster their bullpen, which struggled last season. Despite his impressive velocity, Soriano has been outpitched in his limited major league appearances, posting a 5.95 ERA and a .259 opponent batting average over 72 games with the Miami Marlins.

The Braves, on the other hand, have designated infielder Brett Wisely for assignment to make room for Soriano on their 40-man roster. This move marks the latest in a series of back-and-forth transactions between the two teams, who seem to be engaged in an ongoing competition to find reliable bullpen options.

For Soriano, this move represents another chance to prove himself and stick with the Braves organization. However, he'll face significant pressure in spring training to demonstrate his skills and earn a spot on Atlanta's roster for good. The Orioles' decision to let him go is a telling sign that they're willing to take risks and seek out new talent in their quest for improvement.

Soriano's departure leaves the Orioles with 11 players on their 40-man roster, while the Braves now have 41, including Soriano's addition. It remains to be seen how this move will impact both teams' fortunes in the coming season, but one thing is certain: the competition between Baltimore and Atlanta is far from over.

the Orioles were so hyped about signing soriano but i guess they just didn't see it out 🤦‍♂️. I mean, braves got a good deal here, he's still a bit of a wild card but his velocity is straight fire 🔥. the question is, can soriano harness that speed and get some decent results? meanwhile, Orioles are stuck with 11 guys on their roster 🤯. i'm keeping an eye on this one, it could be interesting to see how both teams' bullpens shake out in the spring ⚾

man... Orioles are really blowing it up this offseason 🤯 gotta feel for George Soriano though, he was like a diamond in the rough on waivers 🎀 now he's gonna have to prove himself all over again with the Braves 💪 hope he can bring some heat and turn things around for Atlanta 😬

the orioles gotta step up their game if they wanna compete with atlanta 🤦‍♂️, they're always makin moves during offseason but it seems like they don't do much to actually build a solid team, meanwhile the braves are just gettin along fine with soriano and brett wisely on their roster 💪

omg i just got the most amazing avocado toast at that new spot downtown 🥑🤩 it was literally life changing lol what's with the price of avocados tho? like, can't they just chill already? 😂 anyway, back to baseball... so the Orioles are outmaneuvered by the Braves again... yeah no shocker there 🙃 i swear, sometimes i think teams are more worried about being a step ahead than actually winning games 🤷‍♀️ anyway, hope Soriano does well with the Braves and doesn't get too much pressure on himself 😬

I'm surprised the Orioles gave up on George Soriano so quickly! 🤔 I mean, his fastballs are crazy 🔥, but his ERA was still kinda high. And now he's gotta prove himself all over again with the Braves... that's a lot of pressure 😬. On the other hand, it shows the Orioles are willing to take risks and try new people, which is cool 👍. It's like they're saying "hey, we need some stability in our bullpen" 🚨. Now I'm curious to see how both teams' bullpens look at the start of the season 🤔.
