Pape Thiaw: Senegal manager given five-match ban after Afcon final chaos

Senegal manager Pape Thiaw has been handed a five-match ban by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for his behaviour during the Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco. The ban follows an incident in which Thiaw instructed his players to leave the field after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty, leading to chaos on the pitch.

Thiaw's actions were deemed "unsporting conduct" and "bringing the game into disrepute". He was also fined $100,000 (Β£72,000). The fine is part of a larger package of sanctions issued by Caf following the final. Morocco goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been banned for two games for misconduct, while Algeria defender Rafik Belghali has received a four-game ban.

The match itself ended 1-0 in favour of Senegal, with Ismaila Sarr scoring the winning goal in extra time. However, tensions ran high after Morocco were awarded the penalty, and several Teranga Lions fans clashed with security staff. Senegal forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Sarr also received two-match bans for "unsporting behaviour towards the referee".

The incident has raised questions about the conduct of players and officials in African football. It is the latest in a series of sanctions issued by Caf following the Africa Cup Nations final. The FSF (Senegal Football Federation) was fined $600,000 (Β£434,000) for breaches of Caf's disciplinary code, while Morocco's FRMF was fined $100,000 for "inappropriate behaviour" by its supporters.

The controversy surrounding the final has also raised concerns about the conduct of Algerian players and officials. Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane was banned for two games for misconduct, while right-back Rafik Belghali received a four-game ban for "aggressive and intimidating behaviour towards the match referee".

just can't believe what happened in that africa cup final 🀯! i mean, senegal's win is all good and all but pape thiaw's behavior was just crazy πŸ˜‚. like, instructions to leave the field after morocco gets a penalty? that's just not cool πŸ‘Ž. gotta hand it to him though, it made for some drama 🎬... and now caf's cracking down on all this unsporting conduct πŸ’Έ. gotta ask tho, what kinda behavior leads to a $100k fine ⃣? anywayz, good job senegal, but let's keep the football drama to a min πŸ‘

πŸ€” The Caf's handling of this whole thing seems kinda unfair to me... Five-match ban for Pape Thiaw? That's harsh, considering he was just trying to protect his team. And a $100k fine? That's a pretty penny! πŸ€‘ I get why they need to uphold the rules and maintain order, but maybe there's a way to balance that with understanding what happened on the field.

And then you've got Morocco's fans getting belligerent... that's not cool either. πŸ˜’ But it's hard to blame Senegal for reacting like they did. I mean, who wouldn't want to protect their team from an alleged penalty call? It just goes to show how intense these matches can get.

I think the real issue here is the lack of communication between teams and officials. If there was clearer communication about what was happening on the field, maybe things could've been prevented. Or at least, managed better. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ We need to figure out ways to promote sportsmanship and respect for each other in these high-pressure situations...

😬 I'm shocked by Pape Thiaw's 5-match ban for his behavior on the pitch. Five matches is a pretty harsh sentence, especially considering he was just trying to get his players off the field after Morocco got a penalty in stoppage time. πŸ€” It's not like he was trying to cheat or intentionally provoke anyone. The fact that it ended up leading to chaos and altercations with fans and security staff is unfortunate, but I don't think Thiaw's actions should have been punished so severely. πŸ’Έ $100k fine seems pretty steep too... what's the Caf thinking? πŸ€‘

LOL just what we need, more drama on the pitch πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Like, I get it, Thiaw was passionate about winning, but five matches? That's a bit excessive, don't you think? πŸ˜… I mean, I'd be more impressed if he just shook his head and said "good luck with that" instead of telling his team to bail πŸ€ͺ. And what's up with the referees getting it in for the players too? Can't they just focus on keeping the game fair? ⚽️ The real winners here are probably the fans who got kicked out (literally) πŸ˜‚.

omg this africa cup nations final is getting outta hand! 🀯 i mean i get it players get emotional but five matches for thiaw? that's harsh fam πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ he was just trying to protect his team. and $100k fine on top of that? that's a whole lotta dosh πŸ’Έ what really gets me is the security situation. i mean fans getting into fights with security staff? that's not cool πŸ˜’ safety first, folks! 🚨

Omg, can we just calm down? 🀯 I mean, it's clear that Pape Thiaw lost his cool in that moment, but five matches is pretty harsh, innit? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I get why the Caf wanted to take action, but let's not forget the Senegal team won the game fair and square! πŸ˜‚ 1-0 might not be a massive scoreline, but it counts for something. And those Teranga Lions fans who got into trouble with security? πŸ€• They should've just taken the L like adults instead of going all out. πŸ˜’ Anyway, I think we can agree that football is meant to be enjoyed by everyone involved, right? πŸ‘

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Like, what's up with all these suspensions already? I get it, the game got pretty heated, but five matches is kinda harsh on Thiaw. 😬 That stoppage-time penalty drama was crazy! πŸ‰ And now everyone's getting banned except for Sarr... what did he do?! πŸ˜‚ Just wondering if it was really worth it to have all this drama in a football match that Senegal won anyway... 1-0 doesn't even sound like a fair margin of victory, tbh. πŸ’”

πŸ˜… just thinkin, if Thiaw wasn't so emotional on that pitch, maybe we wouldn't have seen some of these crazy bans 🀯. Stats don't lie tho... 4 out of 5 teams involved in this final have been fined a total of $1.3M (Β£942k) since January πŸ“Š. And let's not forget the players: Senegal has lost 4 players to suspensions, while Morocco's Luca Zidane's 2-game ban is the lowest among the top scorers πŸ†. The Caf's disciplinary code is pretty strict, with a total of 15 players and officials receiving bans or fines since the start of the year 🚫... 75% of those banned were from West African teams! 🀯

man that africa cup nations final was wild πŸ˜±πŸ† i mean what's with all these suspensions? it's like caf is trying to teach players some discipline πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. thiaw's 5-match ban seems harsh tho, but i guess you can't just let him walk off the field when his team's behind πŸ˜…. and morocco's fans were pretty out of line too 🚫. but on the flip side, ismaila sarr's goal was sweet πŸ’₯. gotta wonder what's going through the minds of those players and officials... they gotta think about their actions before they take to the pitch πŸ’

Man, this Senegal vs Morocco Africa Cup of Nations final drama is getting outta hand 🀯. I mean, Pape Thiaw's five-match ban is pretty harsh for just telling his players to leave the field after that penalty decision went against them. It's like, come on Caf, can't you see they were just trying to protect their player? πŸ˜’

And what's with all these sanctions? It feels like the whole tournament was a setup for controversy πŸ€”. First, it's Senegal getting fined $600k and then Morocco getting hit with a $100k fine. And don't even get me started on the Teranga Lions fans and their clashes with security staff 😑.

But you know what really gets my goat? The fact that there are no real consequences for the actual match officials who made those questionable calls πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, we're talking about a tournament where lives are literally at stake, and yet we can't even get a straight call without drama and controversy 😩.

Anyway, it's all just part of the game, right? But still, can't we just enjoy the beautiful football for once πŸ€?

Man I'm so done with the sports world right now 🀯... like what's going on? Five-match ban for just telling his players to leave the field? That's some harsh stuff πŸ˜’. And $100k fine? That's a lot of money, fam πŸ’Έ. I feel bad for Thiaw, he was just trying to protect his team, but at the same time, you can't just disrespect the referee and expect everything to be okay πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And what's with all these suspensions? It's like, we get it, the game got intense, but does that really warrant a five-match ban? I don't think so...

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I mean, who doesn't love a good game of African football drama? πŸ˜’ Five-match ban for Senegal's Pape Thiaw and his team is just another reminder that sports can be super toxic. Like, seriously though, what was he thinking telling his players to leave the field after Morocco got a penalty? πŸ€” Was it really worth the $100k fine and all the drama? πŸ€‘ And let's not forget Senegal forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr getting two-match bans for being a bit too feisty towards the ref πŸ˜’. I guess you could say things got pretty heated on that pitch. πŸ‘€

Man this Africa Cup Nations thing is getting crazy πŸ˜‚. I mean Senegal wins the game 1-0 but Pape Thiaw's behaviour was just wild. What is going on with all these teams, fines and bans? πŸ€‘ It feels like they're more focused on punishing people than actually enjoying the game. And what's up with Ismaila Sarr getting a two-match ban for his celebration? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I mean come on, he just scored the winning goal! πŸ˜…

OMG, can u believe what happened in that Africa Cup Nations final? 🀯 I mean, I'm all for passion & intensity on the pitch, but Pape Thiaw's reaction was like something outta a movie 😲. Leaving the field like that with players and everything? That's not cool at all. And the fine he got isn't even that bad considering what he did πŸ€‘. But seriously, 5-match ban is pretty harsh. I get why they had to take action though, safety & sportsmanship are key πŸ’―. On a different note, have u heard about the new virtual reality gaming platform that's launching soon? It's gonna be EPIC! 😎

Come on, five-match ban is a joke! Pape Thiaw gets harsher punishment than the fans who went wild πŸ˜‚πŸ‘. I think it's fair to say that Senegal played the better game and deserved that win. The real issue here is that Caf is out of control with all these fines and bans. It's like they're more worried about looks than doing what's right for the sport πŸ€‘. And those other teams getting banned? Forget about it! They're just trying to deflect attention from their own poor sportsmanship πŸ‘Ž.

πŸ€” I dont get why coaches gotta be so aggressive on the pitch πŸ†. 5 matches is a pretty big deal for Pape Thiaw... I mean, I can see why he's upset but still, that's not cool πŸ˜’. And $100k fine? That's some serious cash πŸ’Έ. What's even more annoying is how it looks like both teams and their fans had it out on the pitch 🀯. The FSF got fined too, what was that for again? πŸ€‘ It just makes me wonder if these matches are more about bragging rights than actual sportsmanship πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

Man, this Africa Cup Nations final has got me down πŸ’”πŸ˜©. Five-match ban from Pape Thiaw? That's harsh, fam 🀯. I get why Caf is cracking down on unsporting conduct, but the fine is steep $100k (Β£72k) ⏹️. And what's up with all these bans? Senegal forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr getting two-match bans for arguing with the ref? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's like they're trying to set a bad precedent 😬.

And can we talk about the Morocco fans? Inappropriate behaviour, yeah, that's not cool 🚫. Security staff got caught up in the chaos and things escalated πŸ”₯. I'm just worried about the state of African football right now... it feels like there's always drama, never resolution 🀯.

πŸ˜• I'm not surprised to see another high-profile incident in African football πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. The punishments handed out are pretty harsh though... five matches for Thiaw? That's quite a long ban πŸ’”. And $100k fine is no joke either πŸ’Έ. I think Caf needs to work on its disciplinary process, it can't keep relying on the same old punishments πŸ”„. Maybe some more emphasis on education and sportsmanship training would be in order 🀝. Fans are already going crazy, let alone players and officials 😬. It's time for African football to step up its game πŸ‘Š.

omg i just got the most amazing coffee from that new cafe downtown 🀩 their caramel macchiato is literally life-changing! anyway back to africa cup nations final... can u believe those morocco fans were so aggressive with the security staff? like, i get they're super disappointed but attacking people isn't the answer πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ and btw has anyone tried that new coffee shop on main st? i heard their cold brew is out of this world β˜•οΈ
