Parents fatally struck outside Gilroy school ID'd; community holds vigil, demands safer intersection

Tragedy Strikes Gilroy Community: Beloved Couple's Fatal Accident Sparks Outpouring of Grief and Calls for Safer Intersections

The small town of Gilroy, California is reeling from the devastating news of the fatal accident involving a teenage driver that claimed the lives of Andrew and Stacia Stuart, parents of 7-year-old twins. The couple was struck while crossing the street near their daughter's elementary school during school drop-off on January 16.

As the community mourns the loss of this loving family, many are expressing outrage and frustration over the inadequate safety measures in place at the intersection. A relative of the Stuarts has launched a petition on Change.org, calling for the installation of flashing crosswalk lights, which has garnered over 3,000 signatures so far.

Gilroy Mayor Greg Bozzo acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that even those not directly affected by the tragedy are hurting. He promised to work with the city and school district to reinforce safety protocols on campuses and share feedback that supports improved safety throughout the community.

A joint meeting between city leaders and the Superintendent of the Gilroy Unified School District is scheduled for February 4 to discuss the incident and potential solutions.

The Stuarts were described as wonderful people, with Stacia leaving a lasting impact on the local theatre community. A cousin of Andrew said that many family members plan to attend the memorial service on Saturday, which is expected to be a large gathering.

In response to their loss, a GoFundMe has been set up to support the care and well-being of their 7-year-old twins during this difficult time.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing road safety, particularly in areas with high foot traffic. As the community comes together to support one another, it is clear that the Stuarts' tragic accident will have a lasting impact on the residents of Gilroy for years to come.

Man I'm so down with the petition for flashing crosswalk lights at that intersection πŸ€•πŸ’‘ It's just crazy how some streets aren't even safe for little kids to walk across. The fact that they were just crossing the street near their daughter's school drop-off makes it even more sense to do something about it πŸš—πŸ‘Ά I'm sure the Stuarts would want people to be able to cross those streets safely without losing their lives πŸ’”

Ugh, this is just great... another tragedy that's gonna be all over social media and then what? Nothing changes πŸ™„. They're already getting 3000 signatures on that petition, but I bet it'll get lost in the shuffle. The city's just gonna sweep it under the rug and say they did something about it, but we all know how that goes πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And now they're having a big meeting to "discuss" solutions... meanwhile, people like me are just over here dealing with the constant stress of road safety. Can't they just make those stupid crosswalk lights already?! πŸ’‘ It's just so frustrating when you see families like that, who are supposed to be enjoying their kids' school days, instead getting killed on the way to pick them up πŸš—πŸ˜’

I don’t usually comment but I feel so bad for those families πŸ˜”. It's just not right that a family like that gets taken away in an instant. The idea of having flashing crosswalk lights at school drop-off areas is actually super reasonable, it would have made all the difference to them πŸ’‘. It's crazy how one mistake can make such a huge impact on a community 🀯. I hope they get some answers and changes soon so no other family has to go through this 😒.

This just makes me so sad πŸ€• the fact that two lovely parents had to lose their lives like that is just devastating. I mean, what's the point of even having crosswalk lights if they're not going to be used properly? It's crazy how many people are already calling for change and supporting each other online πŸ’» it's a beautiful thing.

awww man, this is just devastating πŸ€• my heart goes out to the Stuart family and their little twins πŸ€— those poor kids are going through so much already... and the community is coming together in such an amazing way πŸ’– it's just not right that people have to suffer like this because of inadequate safety measures 🚧 like, come on city leaders, what took you so long?! πŸ’” let's get those flashing crosswalk lights up ASAP 🌟 and make sure our kids are safe while they're walking to school πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ we need to do better than this, Gilroy 🌈

πŸ€• my heart goes out to the Stuart family & all of Gilroy, this is such a senseless tragedy 🌟 and it's just not okay that they had to lose their lives like that. πŸ˜” i think we can all agree that safety measures need to be upgraded at intersections, especially near schools ⛅️ like those flashing crosswalk lights are a no-brainer πŸ™Œ why shouldn't our streets have the same level of visibility as highways? πŸš— it's so frustrating to see families being torn apart by preventable accidents πŸ’” but i'm glad to hear that the city is taking this seriously & working with the school district to make changes πŸ’ͺ and of course, the outpouring of love & support for the twins is just beautiful ❀️

this whole thing feels super fishy to me πŸ€”... how did this family just happen to be walking their kids across the street when it was supposed to be safe? didn't anyone notice anything odd? and what's up with the petition for flashing crosswalk lights that can only make things worse, isn't that like a Band-Aid solution at best?

also, I need more info on the family, how well do we really know them? some of this stuff just feels like PR spin to me πŸ“’.

πŸ˜” I cant even imagine how traumatic this must be for the family and friends of the Stuarts... the lack of flashing crosswalk lights is just not acceptable πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ and it's crazy that it had to happen in a place like Gilroy, where you'd think safety would be a priority. A petition with over 3k signatures is already making a difference, but we gotta keep pushing for better infrastructure, esp at schools πŸ“šπŸš—. My heart goes out to those precious twins 😒... may they find some comfort in the love and support of their community ❀️.

Ugh I'm literally shaking thinking about this πŸ€• my aunt lives in Gilroy and I know how lovely those streets are but honestly what's with these intersections? They need to do better ASAP! I've been saying it for ages that crosswalk lights should be mandatory everywhere, especially near schools πŸš¦πŸ’‘ 3k signatures is nothing compared to the lives lost. My heart goes out to Andrew and Stacia's family, those poor twins will never get to see their parents again...it's just not right 😭 I'm totally donating to that GoFundMe, we gotta take care of those kids πŸ™

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STUARTS!!! THEY WERE SUCH A LOVELY FAMILY AND NOW THEY'RE GONE πŸ˜±πŸ’” IT'S SO SAD THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, ESPECIALLY IN AN AREA WITH SO MUCH FOOT TRAFFIC. I MEAN, HOW CAN WE EXPECT KIDS TO SAFELY CROSS THE STREET WHEN THERE AREN'T EVEN FLASHING LIGHTS?! 🚨😑 IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT AND I KNOW THAT CHANGE NEEDS TO BE MADE ASAP πŸ’₯

OMG 🀯 my heart is literally breaking for this lovely family 😭 Andrew and Stacia were so sweet & loving parents to those adorable twins πŸ’• I'm literally in tears thinking about how their lives were cut short πŸ’” it's just not fair πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ we need to make sure that no other parent has to go through the same pain πŸ€— the flashing crosswalk lights petition is a great idea, let's get those installed ASAP πŸš¨πŸ‘

man this is just so sad πŸ’” their family needs all our love and support right now πŸ€— its crazy how something like that can happen in a place with schools around, i mean we shouldnt be surprised but still... 3000 signatures for crosswalk lights is huge, lets hope the city takes action ASAP ⏱️ the fact that even people who didnt know them are hurting shows how much of an impact this family had on their community πŸ™ lets keep those twins safe πŸ‘Ά

I just heard about this and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it 🀯. Those poor parents... 7-year-old twins too young to lose their parents like that. It's just heartbreaking. I mean, what can you even do when something like this happens? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ The fact that they were crossing the street near school and still managed to get hit is just crazy. And those flashing crosswalk lights? That sounds like a no-brainer to me πŸš¦πŸ’‘. It's just so frustrating that it took something like this for people to realize how important safety is at intersections. I hope the community comes together to make some real changes soon πŸ’•.
