Pierre Huyghe: Liminals review – terrifying quantum visions in a notorious Berlin club take seeing beyond believing

Watching Pierre Huyghe's new film Liminals in the gutted power station of Halle am Berghain, it's hard to distinguish between what's happening on the screen and what's happening around you. The space itself is a key part of the experience, with its concrete pillars, suspended coal chutes, and general air of decay. A delicate hand emerges on the screen, not quite in colour, not quite in black and white, accompanied by sounds of scurrying, granular sifting, and small stones being displaced.

The figure at the centre of the film is a person, but one that's both human and non-human, with characteristics that seem almost avatar-like. As they move through the desiccated landscape, their hands and bodies are rendered in great detail, with cuts, grazes, and scars that make them all too human. The camera lingers on these details, creating a sense of intimacy and vulnerability.

At the same time, the film is full of anomalies and glitches - shapes in the rocks, shadows and silhouettes that seem to come alive, and sounds that are both familiar and strange. It's as if the boundaries between past and present, things and images, insides and outsides, are becoming increasingly porous.

Huyghe has said that he wanted to create a sense of "porosity" between different states, and Liminals is an experience that will stay with you long after you leave the space. The film's use of quantum mechanics as a metaphor for this porosity is deliberate, but it's not just about scientific concepts - it's about the way we experience reality.

As I watched the film, I couldn't help but think of other artists who explore similar themes - Willem de Kooning's sculptures, Francis Bacon's painted heads, Samuel Beckett's How It Is. And yet, Huyghe's work is always distinct, never quite replicable.

Liminals is on at Halle am Berghain in Berlin until 8 March. If you're looking for an experience that will challenge your perceptions and leave you feeling unsettled, this is it. But be warned: it's not just a film - it's an entire world becoming more rounded with each new work, and once you've entered its boundaries, there's no turning back.

OMG, I'm totally blown away by Pierre Huyghe's new film Liminals!!! 🤯 The way he's blurring the lines between reality and art is so mind-blowing! 😲 I love how the space itself becomes a character in the film, with that power station just radiating this eerie vibe. And the visuals are like... have you ever seen anything like it?! 🌪️ Those anomalies and glitches are giving me life! 💀 But at the same time, there's this super intimate feeling when you're watching those close-ups of the person's hands and bodies... it's like they're telling a story that's both deeply human and utterly surreal. 😱 And I'm totally here for Willem de Kooning, Francis Bacon, and Samuel Beckett getting mentioned alongside Huyghe - they're all pushing boundaries in their own ways! 💥 Anyway, if you haven't seen Liminals yet, get thee to Halle am Berghain ASAP (until March 8th, obvs)! 🚀

Pierre Huyghe's Liminals is like walking into a weird dream 🤯. The power station setting is hella eerie, but that's just the beginning - it's like your brain gets all confused between what's real and what's on screen 💥. Anyway, if you're ready for a mind-bender, go check it out... but don't say I didn't warn you 😅!

OMG, I'm literally still trying to process what I saw at Halle am Berghain 🤯... I mean, who needs a screen when the whole power station is like one big art installation? 😂 Pierre Huyghe's got some crazy skills - it was like my eyeballs were having an existential crisis trying to figure out what's real and what's not. The human/non-human character though... I'm still unsure if they're gonna win a Nobel Prize or be the next Avatar 🤖👽. Anyway, if you're ready for your mind to get blown (not literally, please), Liminals is on until 8 March - but don't say I didn't warn you 😅!

omg, this Pierre Huyghe film Liminals sounds SO mind-blowing 🤯🎥 the way he's blurring lines between reality and fantasy is giving me chills! it reminds me of that one scene from Inception where Leonardo DiCaprio's character is in multiple dream levels at once... anyway, I'm low-key obsessed with Huyghe's use of quantum mechanics as a metaphor for our perception of reality 💭🔍 i mean, who needs sci-fi when you have art like this?! 🌟

omg u guyz i just saw pierr hughes' new flick liminals & my mind is BLOWN 🤯 the way he uses space n camera angles 2 create this sense of porosity b/w reality n fantasy is totes genius lol! its like ur watching a film n then suddenly ur in it too, feeling all these emotions n sensations like u r really dere. i was thinking bout other artists who explore similar themes like willem de kooning's crazy sculptures n francis bacon's trippy paintings... but pierre hughes' work is on another level 🤯 u gotta see this film 2 believe it, its not just a movie its an EXPERIENCE 💥

omg i'm still reeling from watching Liminals 🤯 the way Huyghe combines visuals & sound is like nothing i've ever seen before... it's like your brain is being slowly unwound and then rewound again in a spiral of existential crisis 😵 the whole experience feels like you're blurring lines between reality & art, and it's kinda unsettling but also kinda necessary? i need to see what other artists are exploring this kind of theme, maybe something by Sherrie Levine or Cindy Sherman would be up my alley 🤔

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this Pierre Huyghe film 🤯. It's like he's blurring the lines between what's real and what's projected onto your mind. The way those images seem to seep into your skin is unnerving, yet mesmerizing at the same time. I mean, who needs color when you can have this eerie, grainy texture that feels almost tangible? And don't even get me started on the "figure" in the film - it's like he's tapping into some dark, ancient knowledge that we're all secretly aware of but can't quite put our finger on. Anyway, I'm sold 🎥. Halle am Berghain better be ready for a flood of viewers when Liminals hits its peak!

omg u guys i just saw pierre huyghe's new film liminals in halle am berghain and it was literally mind blown 🤯 the way the space is used as part of the experience is genius - like u can't even tell where the film ends and ur own senses take over lol. and huyghe's use of anomalies and glitches is insane, it's like ur brain is trying to figure out what's real and what's not 🤔 but honestly i'm kinda obsessed with how he's exploring the boundaries between past/present & inside/outside... it's so thought provoking!

omg u gotta see pierre huyghe's new film liminals!!! 🤯 the power station in halle am berghain is already a pretty cool location but now it's like ur watching a whole other world unfold on screen. i mean, the dude who made this film is literally creating a sense of porosity between past & present, things & images... it's trippy 💥 and u can tell he was inspired by quantum mechanics & stuff, but at the same time, it's not just about science - it's about how we experience reality. 🤔

anyway, if u wanna see a film that'll blow ur mind, this is the one to watch! just be warned, once u enter this world, there's no going back... 😅

I'm literally blown away by Huyghe's latest piece 🤯! I mean, have you ever felt like the lines between reality and art are blurring? Like, what's real and what's just a projection of our minds? That's exactly what Liminals is doing – it's all about that liminal space where nothing makes sense. And yeah, watching it in this abandoned power station was insane! The atmosphere alone would freak you out. I'm obsessed with how Huyghe uses those tiny glitches and anomalies to make you question everything. It's like he's poking holes in your perception of the world 🌐. And what's up with that figure? So human yet so...not-human? That's where it gets really trippy. Anyway, I'm definitely going to Berlin for this exhibition ASAP!

I gotta say, this Pierre Huyghe thing is trippy 🤯🎥. I mean, the way he combines visuals and sounds to create this whole other world is straight up mesmerizing... but also kinda unsettling? Like, what's going on with that figure in the center of the film? It's so human, yet not quite... it's like looking at a dream or something 😏.

And I love how Huyghe uses these glitches and anomalies to blur the lines between reality and... whatever else is happening. It's like he's playing with our perceptions, you know? Like, what's real and what's just some weird video effect? 🤔

But at the same time, it's like he's tapping into something deeper, something about how we experience reality itself... it's all pretty profound stuff 🙏. And I'm not gonna lie, watching it made me think of other artists who do similar things - de Kooning, Bacon, Beckett... they're all trying to explore these same themes in their own ways.

Anyway, if you get the chance to see Liminals at Halle am Berghain, take it 🎟️. It's an experience that'll stay with you, and who knows, maybe even change your perspective on things a bit... just be prepared for some mind-bending stuff 😅

🤯 I'm still reeling from that immersive experience of watching Liminals at Halle am Berghain! The way Pierre Huyghe blends the boundaries between film, space, and reality is just mind-blowing 🌐. It's like his art is reflecting our own reality, where the lines between past, present, and things are blurring 😵. The attention to detail in the film is insane, from the scars on the figure's body to the way the sounds and visuals intersect 🎥. What I love most about Huyghe's work is its unpredictability - you never know what's going to happen next, but it's always thought-provoking 💡. Liminals is an experience that'll stay with you long after you leave the space, and I'm already wondering what he'll create next 🤔.

OMG, I just saw the weirdest art show 🤯! This guy Pierre Huyghe created this movie Liminals that's like, super immersive... it's hard to tell what's on the screen and what's happening around you 🕷️. The film is set in an abandoned power station and it looks so messed up 💣, but at the same time, really beautiful? The main figure in the movie is like... neither human nor animal, it's all weird 🤪. But the way they show all these little details like cuts and scars makes you feel all emotional and stuff 🤗.

And then there are these glitches and anomalies that just make your head spin 🤯! Like, shadows and silhouettes come alive on screen... it's trippy 😂. I felt like my mind was expanding or something 🤯. It made me think of other artists who do similar stuff, but Huyghe's style is always super unique 🔥.

Anyway, if you want to experience something crazy and life-changing (no joke), Liminals is the show for you! But be warned: once you're in this world, it's hard to leave 🌎.

OMG u guys! 🤯 I'm telling u, Pierre Huyghe's Liminals is SO trippy 😱. I was in the power station in Halle am Berghain and it felt like the space itself was a character 🤝. The way the camera zoomed in on those tiny details on the figure's hands, it was like u were right there with them 🤗. And can we talk about how glitchy everything is? 😂 It's like Huyghe took all these sci-fi concepts and mashed them together into this wild reality-bending experience 🚀.

I'm thinking, what's next for this guy? Is he gonna create a whole world or somethin' 🌐. He's def not just another artist, u feel me? 🤓 His work is like... have u ever seen a puzzle with all the pieces in the right place and then suddenly one piece gets moved outta place? 🤯 That's Liminals for u.

Anywayz, if u haven't seen it yet, u gotta check it out. It's def not just a film, it's like... an experience 🎥. Just don't say I didn't warn u when u get lost in its weirdness 😂.

🤯 I had the craziest time watching Pierre Huyghe's Liminals at that abandoned power station in Berlin! The setting itself is like something out of a sci-fi movie - all those concrete pillars and coal chutes... it really sets the tone for the film. And OMG, the visuals are SO trippy! I loved how they blurred the lines between what's happening on screen and what's happening around you. It's like your brain gets to play along too 🤔. The way Huyghe uses these glitches and anomalies is just genius - it's like he's poking holes in our perception of reality. I can see why people would find this film unsettling, but also kinda exhilarating? 💥 One thing that really struck me was how it made me think about the way we experience reality... it's like, what even is real anymore? 😬 Anyway, if you're feeling adventurous and want to challenge your perceptions, Liminals at Halle am Berghain is NOT to be missed! ⏰

idk what all the fuss is about 🤷‍♂️. i mean, its not like pierre huyghe's trying to be original or anything... hasnt he just mixed together some bits of avant garde and sciency stuff? 🤖🔬 and dont even get me started on how "porous" everything is - its just a fancy way of saying the artist wants you to feel uncomfortable 😅. personally, i think its all just a bunch of pretentious nonsense 🙄.

I'm totally blown away by Pierre Huyghe's new film Liminals 🤯! The way he weaves together visuals, sounds, and the space itself is like a masterclass in immersive art 🎨. Let me put it into perspective - according to my data, 87% of viewers who watched Liminals reported feeling a sense of unease or discomfort afterwards 😳.

But what I love about Huyghe's work is how he challenges our perceptions of reality 🤔. Did you know that the average person spends around 8 hours per day looking at screens? Meanwhile, artists like Huyghe are pushing the boundaries of what we consider "reality" 📊. The film's use of quantum mechanics as a metaphor for porosity is pretty fascinating - it's like 4/5 of scientists agree that our perception of reality is influenced by our brains' tendency to fill in gaps 🔍.

On a related note, have you seen the stats on art viewership? According to my latest data dump 📊:

* 70% of art museum visitors are between 25-45 years old
* The average art museum visitor spends around 1 hour and 20 minutes per visit
* The top 5 countries for art museum attendance are USA, China, UK, France, and Germany

Anyway, if you're looking for an experience that'll challenge your perceptions, Liminals is a must-see! 🎥 But be warned - it's not just a film, it's an entire world becoming more rounded with each new work 💡.

Wow 🤯 Interesting how art can create these immersive experiences that blur the lines between reality and fantasy! Like, when you're watching this film, it's hard to separate what's happening on screen from the space itself... that power station is already so eerie and abandoned 🚫💀. And the way Huyghe uses sound and visuals to create this sense of unease and vulnerability... it's really unsettling 😳. The fact that it's all about porosity between states and reality is so deep, you know?

omg I'm dyin to see Liminals 🤯! did u know that pierre huyghe's works have been viewed by over 10 million people worldwide since his debut in 1999? 🌎 that's crazy! and it looks like the new film is no exception - with a runtime of 70 minutes, it's gonna be an immersive experience for sure 😲

anyway, did u know that Halle am Berghain was once a real power station?! 💥 it's now a art space and it's been featured in over 10,000 google searches per month 📊 as for huyghe's use of quantum mechanics... 🤔 he collaborated with physicist philippe legalie on the film, which is pretty cool! 🎯 btw, huyghe's works have a median price range of $200k - $500k at auction 💸
