Premier League and FA Cup news: Fletcher rails at Walker 'stamp' on Dorgu, Romero lands ban

Darren Fletcher has expressed his disappointment at Manchester United's Kyle Walker for stamping on Patrick Dorgu during their 2-2 draw against Burnley, describing it as "unacceptable". The incident occurred with the ball trapped between Dorgu's legs, and Walker's reaction raised eyebrows among fans. When asked if Dorgu should have made more of the situation to ensure the officials took notice, Fletcher pointed out that Walker had also behaved in a similar manner earlier in the match when challenged by Lisandro Martínez, which resulted in a goal being ruled out by VAR.

Fletcher criticized the referee and video assistant referee for missing the incident, saying that it was "unacceptable" that VAR did not intervene. He emphasized the importance of players avoiding such behavior to maintain the integrity of the game. Fletcher also addressed the issue of players making "dramas" about incidents, stating that his goal is to prevent such situations from arising in the first place.

In other Premier League news, Tottenham's Cristian Romero has been handed a one-match suspension for reacting poorly to being sent off during last month's 2-1 loss to Liverpool. The center-back had received a second yellow card and argued with the referee before being shown a red card.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is hopeful that defender Fabian Schär will recover from an ankle ligament injury in time to play again this season. However, Howe warned that Schär's availability could be delayed if his condition does not improve significantly.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has expressed his intention to act in the January window to sign a new winger to replace Antoine Semenyo after he joined Manchester City for £62.5 million. The 26-year-old Ghanaian winger left Bournemouth with 10 goals and 21 appearances this season, but Iraola acknowledged that finding someone similar may be challenging.

Aston Villa's Unai Emery will have to manage without goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez in their FA Cup tie against Tottenham on Saturday due to a calf injury. However, Mings is expected to return from suspension after serving his one-match ban for being sent off during the 2-0 loss to Chelsea last month.

Finally, Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris has announced that he will not rest players despite having six players on Africa Cup of Nations duty. He plans to field a strong side in their FA Cup tie against Everton, which will be their third-round match.

man i cant believe some of these players got away with that stamping on the poor guy dorgu what happened was so shocking 🤯 the ref and var are supposed to be on top of that kinda thing but i guess they were too busy having a nap 😴 darren fletcher is right though, it's unacceptable and we need to teach these players some respect. and ugh cristian romero getting a one-match suspension for reacting poorly? that's just not fair ⚽️ i swear some of these guys are more concerned about being in the headlines than with actually playing the game 💁‍♂️

I think this whole football thing is just like politics - everyone's got an opinion and nobody's happy 🙄. I mean, Darren Fletcher's all upset about Kyle Walker stamping on Patrick Dorgu, but what about the ref and VAR not doing anything? It's like they're more worried about looking cool than making a fair call 😐. And then you've got Cristian Romero getting sent off for being a drama queen 🤣. I'm not saying he shouldn't have gotten suspended, but come on, a red card over a little disagreement? That's just basic football 101, mate! 🙄

And what's with all these injuries? It's like everyone's trying to make an excuse for losing 😒. Eddie Howe can't even count on Fabian Schär to get back from his ankle injury. And Bournemouth's got a whole big hole to fill after Semenyo left, but they're worried about finding someone similar? That's just throwing good money after bad 💸.

But you know who I feel for? Sunderland's Régis Le Bris. Trying to field a strong team with all those players off on Africa Cup of Nations duty? That's dedication right there 👏. And Unai Emery, dealing without Emiliano Martínez? At least he's not whining about VAR 🙄. Maybe we can learn from these managers how to make tough calls and get the job done 💪.
