Protesters disrupt New Orleans city council meeting against ICE crackdown – video

Protesters Take to Streets Outside City Hall, Disrupting Council Meeting Over ICE Crackdown

A heated scene unfolded outside the New Orleans City Hall yesterday evening as protesters gathered in response to the recent crackdown by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the city's residents. The demonstration was a stark display of resistance against what many see as an overzealous and discriminatory law enforcement tactic.

Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as tense, with chants of "No justice, no peace" echoing through the streets. The protesters, mostly comprised of local activists, community organizers, and immigration advocates, gathered outside the city council chambers to voice their opposition to what they perceive as an unjust targeting of minority communities.

According to sources within the city government, the meeting was initially disrupted when protesters began demonstrating against the ICE actions, leading to a temporary suspension of the proceedings. The council members eventually reconvened in a separate room, but the disruptions continued throughout the evening.

The protest appears to be part of a growing national movement against what many see as discriminatory and racist practices by federal immigration authorities. Local officials have been urged to re-evaluate their policies and prioritize community safety over federal directives.

As one protester was quoted saying, "We will not stand idly by while our neighbors are targeted and intimidated by ICE agents. We demand that our city council take a strong stance against these injustices and protect the rights of all residents." The protest is set to continue outside City Hall until further notice.

Man, this New Orleans protest was like something out of a movie 🎥. I'm all about standing up for what's right and fighting against injustice, you know? It's not just about the ICE crackdown, it's about the fact that our city council is being forced to choose between following federal orders or doing what's best for their community.

I think it's awesome that these protesters are using their voices to raise awareness about this issue. They're not just shouting into the void; they're getting people in positions of power to listen and take action. It's a great example of how grassroots movements can bring about real change 💪. And let's be real, we need more people speaking out against systemic racism and inequality. The system's gotta be held accountable for its actions 🤝.

ICE actions are super messed up 🤬, can't believe they're targeting innocent people just for being in this country. I'm so tired of politicians making decisions that benefit only a select few instead of the community as a whole. Local govts need to step up and support their residents more than just following federal orders. It's not like the feds are doing anything to help people here anyway 🤷‍♀️. We need real change, not just empty promises.

This whole thing got me thinking, what's next? Are we gonna start demanding justice for who gets stopped at the airport for having a slightly expired visa? 😂 Just kidding (kinda). Seriously though, it's wild how one law can spark such outrage and unity among people. I mean, I'm all for community safety, but does that have to come at the expense of basic human rights? Not in my book, ICE! 👮‍♀️

ICE is just trying to do its job 🤷‍♂️, can't blame them for following orders. I get why people are upset, but at some point we gotta let the law enforcement agencies handle things... their way 💼. Can't just have a bunch of community organizers telling 'em what to do and how to enforce the laws 😒. Don't get me wrong, I feel for those who might be affected by ICE's actions, but come on, it's not like they're trying to hurt anyone on purpose... it's all about border control and keeping people safe 🚫.

🚨ICE crackdown = recipe for civil unrest, you know? They're just trying to stir up trouble by enforcing those discriminatory policies... or so it seems 🤔. I mean, what's really going on here? Is the city council just too scared to stand up against the feds? Or are they in cahoots with ICE all along? 🔒 The protesters might be right to demand justice, but is this just a smokescreen for something bigger? 🤷‍♀️ I don't trust our government as far as I can throw 'em. They're always hiding something behind those slick PR campaigns and carefully crafted "transparency" announcements. Wake up, sheeple! 👀

Man, this whole situation is wild 🤯. It's clear that people in New Orleans are fed up with ICE's actions and want some answers. I get it, they're trying to enforce the law, but at what cost? The fact that community members feel targeted and intimidated by these agents is a major red flag.

It's also interesting to see how this protest has sparked a national conversation about immigration policies. I think local officials are right to listen to their constituents' concerns and re-evaluate their priorities. It's not just about following federal directives, it's about finding solutions that work for everyone.

I'm curious to see how this will all play out 🤔. Will the city council take concrete steps to address these issues? Only time will tell. One thing's for sure though – the people of New Orleans won't be silenced 👊.

🤔 this protest thingy just doesn't sit right with me... i mean, i get it, people are upset about ICE's crackdown, but disrupting a council meeting? isn't that kinda counterproductive? 🙄 think they should've tried to have a constructive convo instead of causin' a scene. and what's with all these chants of "no justice, no peace"? seems like just a bunch of noise to me... can't we just listen to each other's perspectives without gettin' all worked up? 😒

the whole thing just seems so messed up 🤯, like what even is the point of having a city council if they can't even make decisions without getting interrupted by protesters? i mean, i get it, the protesters have every right to express their opinions and stuff, but at the same time, can't they see that this whole thing is causing more problems than it's solving?

and seriously, who decides what constitutes a "just" or "unjust" immigration policy anyway? it just seems like politicians are trying to cover their own backsides while pretending like they care about the community. meanwhile, we're just left with a bunch of angry protesters and frustrated council members. 🤷‍♂️

anyway, i do think it's cool that people are speaking out against this stuff, even if it is a bit messy. at the end of the day, someone's gotta represent the community's interests and make sure that everyone's being treated fairly. and if that means having some uncomfortable conversations outside City Hall, so be it 💬

just saw this on my feed 🤯, can't believe they're disrupting a city meeting like this...ICE crackdowns are already super problematic, don't need protests adding to it...seems like people are getting really upset about being targeted as minorities 👎 doesn't seem like the council is doin much to address it tho...just more of the same old politics 🤷‍♂️

I don't know... I mean, I do think it's messed up what's happening with ICE in New Orleans 🤔, but on the other hand, I'm not sure if the protesters are going about it the right way, you feel? They're so passionate and all that, but aren't they just making things worse by disrupting the council meeting? 😕 Like, don't they want to have a constructive conversation about this stuff? 🤷‍♀️ And what's with all these people saying it's racist or discriminatory... isn't that a bit extreme? 🙄 I mean, I know some folks are getting targeted by ICE, but can we not just try to find some middle ground here? 💡 Maybe the city council could work on something that addresses everyone's concerns? 🤗

omg u guys i cant even right now 😱🤯 protesters in nola taking a stand against ice crackdown its like they're fighting for their lives!! i'm literally shipping the city council members who are standing up for what's right 🙌🏽💪 we need more people to speak out against this kind of injustice and fight for our community's rights 🤝🏽💕 can we get some hashtags going on twitter pls? #JusticeForNola #ProtectImmigrantRights #NoICE

🤝 this is so sickening i mean i get it protesters have every right to be mad but can't they just calm down for one second its like they're putting everyone in city hall on trial what's next ice coming in and arresting people for being angry at the government meanwhile i'm over here thinking how can we fix the real issues rather than just protesting about something that's already being done

🚨 I'm so proud of these people fighting for what's right! They're not afraid to stand up against what they see as unfair treatment of their community. It's about time someone spoke out against the injustices that are being done in our country 🤦‍♀️. The city council needs to listen to the people and make some changes ASAP 💬. These protesters aren't going away anytime soon, and I hope their voices keep echoing through the streets until justice is served 💪. It's not just about immigration reform, it's about equality and fairness for everyone 🌎.

I'M SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS SITUATION! PEOPLE ARE BEING PERSECUTED JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR Immigration STATUS!!! 🤬 it's not fair that they're being targeted by ICE and having their rights taken away. THE CITY COUNCIL SHOULD REALLY LISTEN TO WHAT THE COMMUNITY IS SAYING AND TAKE ACTION AGAINST THESE DISCRIMINATORY POLICIES! I FEEL FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE AFRAID TO LEAVE THEIR HOMES BECAUSE OF ICE. WE NEED TO RISE UP AND DEMAND CHANGE!!! 💪

Ugh, what's with these protesters disrupting meetings? 🤦‍♀️ I get where they're coming from about ICE crackdowns being discriminatory, but can't they just do it peacefully? 😒 They literally cancelled the council meeting, which means no one gets a say on how to address the issue. And now it's all over socials with #resistICE hashtags... 📱 Can't we have a real conversation about this without resorting to chaos? 🤷‍♂️
