Racist ad on front page of Michigan Gannett newspaper sparks outrage, apologies - Detroit Metro Times

I'm shocked this kinda thing happens in a newspaper that's supposed to be serving the community . I mean, come on, Bowersox Floor Center knows exactly what they're doing when they run ads with racist undertones... but honestly, who gets away with this kind of stuff? It's Gannett's responsibility as a company to make sure their publications aren't promoting hate speech and they clearly dropped the ball . And now the whole community is left feeling uneasy about where their news comes from

think about it, the ad was paid for by bowersox floor center and they've done this before . gannett's approval process failed them . if you want to promote diversity, don't use language that sounds like a neo nazi dog whistle

gannett's apology came too late . they need to take responsibility for their mistakes and make sure this doesn't happen again

I'm so sick of ads that spread hate and racism . Can't we just have honest conversations about diversity without resorting to divisive rhetoric? It feels like we're taking two steps forward and three back with ads like this one. Gannett needs to get its act together and make sure they're not letting hate speech run amok in their papers. We need more responsible journalism, not some company trying to stir up drama for clicks .

omg dont believe they just let a racist ad go on print like what were they thinking this is so messed up i remember when facebook banned that dude who said some crazy stuff about muslims and now they're doing it with gannett publishing a banner ad promoting white nationalist rhetoric its like they think ppl are stupid or somethin newsflash racism is not ok and even if you dont agree with something its not your place to insult ppl just because of their skin color or religion

this is getting out of hand... i think big media companies need to do better at policing their own content before things get outta control . it's not like they're just printing whatever comes through the door, they have a responsibility to make sure what's in print isn't gonna hurt people . and yeah, gannett's apology was pretty late in coming, kinda like, "oh no we messed up, sorry guys" ... shouldn't be that hard to say "we were wrong and we're fixing it now" instead of just saying you're "strengthening your review process" . anyway, it's not like this is the first time something like this has happened, but still gotta wonder how an ad like that even made it into print in the first place ...

omg u gotta see this news so some ad shows up in a newspaper in michigan saying diversity is like a Trojan horse 4 terrorism can u even believe that? like what's next? " immigrants are gonna take over and steal our jobs"? give me a break i mean the company who ran it has a history of putting out these kinda racist ads, but still its like wut r they thinkin? dont they know thats just fuel 4 the fire?

i think the newspaper shouldve done more to vet this ad before publishing it, maybe even fact-check it or somethin but i guess that didnt happen, so now theres all this outrage and stuff on social media. i dont blame ppl 4 bein upset tho, its pretty outrageous what they said.

anywayz im just sayin if u dont like white nationalist ideology, dont support the companies who run these kinda ads
