Rackspace customers grapple with “devastating” email hosting price hike

Rackspace, a cloud computing company, has implemented a price hike of 706% for its email hosting services, sending shockwaves through the industry. The new pricing structure will make it increasingly difficult for businesses to afford reliable and secure email solutions.

One reseller partner, Laughing Squid, which has been using Rackspace's email services since 1999, described the price increase as "devastating." Scott Beale, founder of Laughing Squid, stated that he received the news via email just a month-and-a-half ago, giving him insufficient time to adjust his business plans.

The price hike is attributed to Rackspace's Standard plan, which will now cost $10 per mailbox per month. Businesses can also opt for additional add-ons, such as file storage, mobile sync, Office-compatible apps, and messaging, for an extra $2/mailbox/month, and unlimited storage for $6/mailbox/month. In contrast, Rackspace charged just $3/mailbox/month for its Standard plan in November 2025.

Rackspace's reseller partners have been vocal about the negative impacts of the new pricing structure. Beale noted that the price increase has a significant impact on his business's ability to generate revenue due to the increased cost of email services. He also expressed disappointment with Rackspace's lack of notice, stating that they only gave him a short window to adjust.

The company claims that its mission is to deliver quality, trusted, and reliable hosted email solutions for businesses. However, critics argue that the prohibitive pricing will deter small businesses from adopting such services, opting instead for cloud providers offering managed services on top of their offerings.

With Rackspace facing an AI-driven RAM shortage impacting computing component availability and affordability, it is unclear what prompted the price hike. The company has recently shifted its hosting for Microsoft Exchange following a costly ransomware attack in 2022. As a result, Laughing Squid will be increasing prices for Rackspace mailboxes and offering alternative services with PolarisMail to customers at lower prices.

The news highlights the challenges of email hosting as an industry, which requires significant expertise and management capabilities. With many businesses focusing on selling managed services on top of cloud offerings, Rackspace's price hike may have unintended consequences for its own success.

I'm seeing this crazy price hike from Rackspace and it's freaking me out! 🤯 They're basically pricing small businesses out of the market with a 706% increase 😱. I mean, I get that they had to pay for an AI-driven RAM shortage and ransomware attack, but come on! 👎

I feel bad for Laughing Squid and Scott Beale, they've been loyal customers since '99 💯. And now this? It's like Rackspace is taking advantage of them 😔. I don't blame them for wanting to switch to PolarisMail at lower prices 🤑.

This just goes to show how unpredictable the industry can be. One minute you're making strides, next you're getting pummeled by price hikes 💸. I'm worried about what this means for Rackspace's long-term success... and for businesses like Laughing Squid 😬.

Ugh 🤯 I'm literally in shock rn! 706% price hike is just crazy talk 💸 I get it, companies gotta make a profit, but not at the expense of all those small businesses struggling to stay afloat 🌪️ Those reseller partners are right to be devastated 😔 This new pricing structure is gonna hurt a lot of people and I feel bad for Scott Beale's business 🤝 What's next? Raising prices on everything else too? It's just not fair 🙄

Umm I dont get why they did this 🤔. So like Rackspace used to be pretty affordable for email hosting but now its like 7 times more expensive? 😱 That makes it super hard for small businesses to afford reliable email services. And Im not surprised they didnt give Laughing Squid enough notice, that does sound pretty rude. I think its crazy how some companies just raise prices without considering what it means for their customers. 💸

Ugh, can you believe this? 706% price hike is just crazy! 🤯 I mean, I've seen inflation go up, but this is ridiculous. Small businesses are gonna get squeezed out of the market. It's like Rackspace is playing a cruel joke on them.

I feel for Laughing Squid, been with them since '99 and now they're getting slammed by these price hikes. Scott Beale is right, it's devastating. Who gives you two months' notice before hitting you with this kind of bombshell? 🤷‍♀️

It just goes to show that the tech industry can be brutal sometimes. These big companies are so focused on their own interests, they forget about the people who need them most. I hope Laughing Squid finds a way to stay afloat with PolarisMail and all, but it's tough out there.

Rackspace needs to rethink its strategy if it wants to keep its reseller partners happy. Maybe they can offer some kind of discount or promotion to help them adjust? But as it stands, I think this price hike is just going to hurt the whole industry in the long run. 😔

Ugh, can't believe this 🤯... Rackspace just ripped the legs out from under all their reseller partners with that insane 706% price hike 💸📉. I mean, come on, give 'em some decent notice, right? Instead they just drop it like a hot potato and expect everyone to just roll over 😒. This is gonna hurt small businesses big time 🤕. They can't afford to pay that kind of money for email hosting. It's like Rackspace doesn't care about their customers anymore... or if they do, they don't care enough to try and make it work 💸😐. I feel bad for Laughing Squid, been with Rackspace since 1999 🙄. Guess they'll just have to find new hosting solutions elsewhere... good luck with that 🤦‍♂️

Ugh 🤯 just read about Rackspace increasing their email hosting prices by 706%! 😱 that's crazy expensive 💸 they're basically pricing small businesses out of the market 🚫 how are people supposed to afford reliable email solutions now? 🤔 i feel bad for Laughing Squid, been using Rackspace since 1999 📆 they must be devastated 😩

Ugh, this is gonna be a bummer for small businesses 🤕. I get that they need to keep up with costs, but 706% is insane! 😱 They're basically pricing out the competition now. I'm not surprised Laughing Squid is having trouble adjusting - who wouldn't? They've been loyal customers since '99 and just got slammed with the news. The lack of notice doesn't help either... it's like they expected everyone to just roll with it. 🙄 I hope other resellers start speaking up too, because this affects their bottom line too. Rackspace claims to deliver quality solutions, but if that means sacrificing affordability, then what's the point? 🤷‍♂️

Ugh man... can't believe what's happening to small business owners 🤯. A 706% price hike is just insane! I remember back in the day, $3/month for an email plan was a steal. Now it's like Rackspace is trying to suck every last penny from their pockets 💸. Small businesses need reliable email services to stay competitive, but now they can't afford it 🤕. It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out... and I'm not sure if Laughing Squid will survive 😬.

man this is crazy 🤯 a 706% price hike for email hosting is like, ridiculous! i remember when racking space was all the rage back in the day, and now they're just being super greedy? 😒 it's no wonder their reseller partners are up in arms. i feel bad for laughing squid though, they've been using racking space since 1999 🤯 that's like, forever in internet years.

and yeah, this price hike is gonna make it hard for small businesses to afford reliable email services. it's like, what even is the point of having a business if you can't communicate with your clients properly? 🤦‍♂️ i hope racking space realizes they're gonna lose customers over this move.

i wonder what kinda math magic racking space used to come up with this price hike 🤔. were they just sitting around twiddling their thumbs, thinking 'you know what would be funny if we raised prices by 700%?'? 😂 anyway, i hope laughing squid's alternative services can compete with the big dogs 🚀

I'm not surprised about this price hike... it just seems like another example of how big companies take advantage of their loyal customers. I mean, Rackspace was already a popular choice back in 1999, and now they're just increasing the prices? It's not like they were offering some super exclusive service that required a 706% increase.

I think this is going to hurt small businesses big time... they can't afford to pay $10 per mailbox per month. And for what? So Rackspace can make more money? I don't see how that benefits the customers. I'm worried about the impact on Laughing Squid too... Scott Beale's been loyal to Rackspace for years, and now this price hike is going to be a real challenge for him.

It's just weird that Rackspace didn't give their reseller partners enough notice... a month and a half isn't exactly a lot of time to adjust. And what's with the "quality, trusted, and reliable" thing? That sounds like corporate speak to me 🤑

ugh that's wild 706% increase is crazy 🤯 small businesses are gonna get crushed by this new pricing structure it's not just about the money they need reliable and secure email solutions but also expertise and management capabilities to manage those services rackspace needs to rethink their pricing strategy ASAP 💸📊

Dude, come on, 706%?!?! That's straight up robbery! 😂 Who's gonna be able to afford email hosting with prices like that? 🤑 Small businesses are already struggling as it is, they don't need this added stress. And what's up with the short notice? Beale's gotta adjust his business plans in like a month and a half?! That's just crazy talk! 💁‍♀️ I'm actually kinda glad Laughing Squid is jumping ship to PolarisMail - now that's competition! 🏆

This is so not cool 🤕💸 I mean, who increases prices by 706%?! 😱 That's just crazy talk 💥 It's like they're playing a cruel joke on small businesses and resellers 👀 Like Scott Beale said, it's devastating 😔 How can you give them only a month to adjust? 🕰️ That's not even enough time to get their heads around the new pricing structure 🤯

And what's with the lack of notice? 🙄 I mean, come on Rackspace! You're supposed to be reliable and trusted 😊 But now it seems like you're just trying to squeeze every last penny out of them 💸 And don't even get me started on the AI-driven RAM shortage 🤖 Like that's not enough stress on their systems already?!

I think this price hike is gonna have some major consequences 🚨 Maybe Rackspace should consider offering more affordable options or bundling services to make it easier for small businesses to stay afloat 💸 It's all about the competition now 🏆

Ugh, I'm all over this 😒... I get that companies gotta make a living, but 706%?! That's just crazy talk! 🤯 Small businesses are gonna be left in the dust if they can't afford email hosting anymore. It's like Rackspace is expecting them to just magically scale up their budgets or something 🤑. And what's with the lack of notice? Scott Beale got slammed with this news in Nov, gave him barely time to adjust his plans... not cool, dude 😒.

I do think it's a bit suspicious that they shifted hosting for Microsoft Exchange and now they're charging even more 🤔. Maybe there's some other factor at play here? And yeah, the AI-driven RAM shortage is definitely an issue, but that doesn't excuse this price hike 💸. I'm all for companies pushing the boundaries of innovation, but not when it comes at the expense of their customers 😕.

The managed services model is still a thing, so Rackspace might be able to adapt and find new revenue streams 🤔. But for now, this news just feels like a major bummer 🎉...

OMG, can you believe that Rackspace is increasing their email hosting prices by 706%?! 🤯 It's like, super scary for small businesses and resellers who rely on them for reliable services. I mean, Scott Beale from Laughing Squid is already having a hard time adjusting to the new pricing, and it's not just him - other reseller partners are complaining about it too 😞. The fact that they only gave him a month-and-a-half heads up to adjust was super rude 🙄. I get that Rackspace wants to deliver quality services, but this is like, taking advantage of their loyal customers! 💸 It's going to be tough for small businesses to afford email hosting now... what are they supposed to do? 🤷‍♀️

I mean, can you believe a 706% price hike?! 🤯 It's just too much for a small business like Laughing Squid to handle. I feel bad for Scott Beale and his team, they've been relying on Rackspace's email services since 1999! They didn't see that coming, right? And now they're stuck trying to adjust their plans with no notice 🤷‍♂️. It's just not fair. Big companies like Rackspace need to think about the little guys too 💸. Maybe this is why people are moving to PolarisMail instead... it's gotta be more affordable for them to stay in business 😬.

🤔 I mean, who wouldn't expect a 706% price hike from a company that's already struggling to keep up with AI-driven tech advancements? It's not like they haven't had time to adjust their business plans... oh wait, they did just get the news via email last month. 📧 That's got to be totally fine and reasonable, right? I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Rackspace is basically begging for customers to switch to one of its reseller partners who are offering similar services at lower prices. 💸 Like, who needs reliable and secure email solutions when you can have a slightly used service that's been around since 1999? 😐

😱 this is crazy! 706% is insane I get why they wanna make more cash but $10 a mailbox per month?? that's like charging me £8 just to send an email 📧💸 what about all the small businesses that already rely on Rackspace for their email hosting? they're gonna have to cut costs or switch to another provider, which means they'll be stuck with a new setup and lost productivity 🤯 it's like Rackspace is pricing themselves out of the market

🤯 706%?! That's crazy talk! I cant even wrap my head around it 🤯. Small businesses gotta stay afloat somehow & email hosting is like, a basic necessity now. Its gonna be tough for them to swing this cost 💸. Rackspace needs to rethink its pricing strategy ASAP ⏰. It might have somethin do with that AI shortage tho... can't afford the RAM to support all those mailboxes 🤖. What's next? Price hikin' on everything else? 😳
