Rebel nuns who busted out of Austrian care home win reprieve – if they stay off social media

Rebel Nuns Given Reprieve – But at What Cost?

In a surprise move, Austrian church officials have agreed to let three 80-year-old nuns remain in their abandoned convent, provided they agree to certain conditions. The trio, who gained an international following for breaking free from their care home and returning to Goldenstein Castle, must now abide by a strict set of rules that seem designed to curb their online presence.

The agreement, proposed by Provost Markus Grasl, includes a ban on the nuns using social media, a restriction on outside visitors to the convent, and the settlement of a legal dispute. However, the sisters – Bernadette, Regina, and Rita – have refused to accept these terms, dismissing them as vague and one-sided.

Their response came in a statement, issued by their supporters, which denied that the proposal was ever discussed with the nuns or that they had been consulted about the conditions. The statement called the agreement "legally worthless" due to its reliance on a clause that could be interpreted at any time, rendering it useless.

The sisters have built up a global following by sharing updates on their tumultuous experience and joy at returning to their convent. However, this newfound fame comes with costs, including the need for added security measures and medical care.

Local supporters and former pupils have helped the trio adjust to life back in Goldenstein Castle, installing a chairlift to facilitate access to their cells. Despite these efforts, the nuns remain under constant surveillance by church officials, who appear determined to curb their online presence at all costs.

The dispute highlights the tension between individual freedom and institutional control. The sisters' actions have sparked international attention and sympathy, with many questioning the church's authority over their personal lives. As the standoff continues, it remains to be seen whether the nuns will ultimately accept the proposed agreement or refuse to back down.

For now, they remain at the convent, surrounded by supporters and former pupils who are determined to help them navigate this complex situation. The fate of the three rebel nuns hangs in the balance, as they weigh their options and consider what price they may be willing to pay for their right to free expression.

I'm not buying it 🤔... why would these 80-year-old nuns agree to basically being locked down just because they're trying to share their story? I mean, can't they have some kind of autonomy over their own lives and online presence? And what's with the "conditions" being so vague and one-sided? Like, are they even considering the sisters' perspectives at all?

I need to see more info on this agreement before I believe it 📰... like, who exactly proposed these terms and what's in it for the church? Is this just about controlling their narrative online or is there something else going on here? And have we seen any evidence that the nuns were even consulted about these conditions?

I'm not saying they're right to be defiant, but I think they've got a point 🤷‍♀️... freedom of expression isn't just for young people, and these nuns are speaking out against something that's pretty fishy. We should be supporting them, not telling them what they can and can't do online 🌟

I dont think its cool that these nuns are being treated like they're some kind of lab rats 🤖 just because they're online famous. I mean, cant they just live their lives without the church breathing down their necks? The rules they're being asked to follow sound super restrictive, like they're not even allowed to have a say in what happens to them 💔. And whats up with the chairlift? Its just a fancy way of saying they're stuck in this convent forever 🚶‍♀️.

🤗 I'm so inspired by these 3 amazing women! They're not afraid to speak out & show everyone that age is just a number 💁‍♀️. I think it's super cool that they've built this global community around them, sharing their journey & inspiring others with their courage 💖. Of course, there are risks involved, but it's clear they're not gonna let the church dictate their lives 😊. It's about time we stand up for our freedom of expression & support those who aren't afraid to be different 🌈!

I'm so confused about this situation 🤔. I mean, these 80-year-old nuns are just trying to live their lives, share some updates on social media, and gain international attention... but the church is all like "nope, you can't do that". It's like they're being treated like prisoners or something 😕.

I don't get why they have to be so strict about it too. Like, what's the big deal? The nuns aren't hurting anyone. They just want to express themselves and connect with people online. And now the church is all "we need to surveil them"... that sounds super creepy 🚫.

I'm on Team Nun here 🙌. I think they should be allowed to make their own choices about how they live their lives. If they don't like the rules, maybe they can just leave? Like, isn't that what freedom is all about? 🤷‍♀️

🤯 I mean, come on! Can't these church folks just chill? 🙄 They're basically asking 80-year-old nuns to give up their online presence - that's like asking a teenager to surrender their phone 📱. The sisters built this whole thing around sharing their story and connecting with people worldwide, so it feels super unfair that they'd be forced to cut ties with social media now.

I'm all for individual freedom, but at the same time, I can see why the church might want to maintain some control over the situation. Maybe there's a way to find a middle ground? 🤝 Like, could they just have a monitored online presence or something? It's like, you're giving them some freedom, but also keeping an eye on things.

The whole thing is kinda frustrating because it feels like these nuns are being treated more like prisoners than spiritual leaders. They're 80 years old, for crying out loud! Can't they just enjoy their golden years in peace? 🙏

This is crazy 😱. I mean, the church just wants to control these 80-year-old nuns' lives even more now that they're back at the convent. It's like they think sharing their story and inspiring people online is something to be silenced? The fact that they refused to accept the proposed agreement is completely reasonable 🤷‍♀️. These sisters have built a global following by being authentic and transparent, and now they're being asked to tone it down just because of some clause in a contract? It's not fair. The church needs to rethink its approach here 👊.

I'm kinda thinking that these 3 older ladies were basically ahead of their time 🕰️, you know? They broke free from the convent and took on the world, or at least social media. I mean, who wouldn't want to share their adventures with the world? 🌎 But, now it's like they're being asked to trade in their freedom for a bunch of rules and regulations that just seem designed to silence them 🗣️.

I'm all for individual expression and not wanting to be held back by institutions, but at the same time, I can see why the church would want some kind of control over what's being said online. It's like they're walking a tightrope between freedom and responsibility 🤸‍♀️. I'm curious to see how this plays out and whether these nuns will ultimately accept the deal or keep pushing for their rights 💪. The world is watching, and I'm loving every minute of it 😂

im thinkin these 3 nuns is like rebels without a cause but in a good way lol [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58111163] they wanna express themselves online but the church is all like nope, cant do that 🚫👵♂️ its like they're stuck between a rock and a hard place. on one hand they got their freedom but on the other hand they gotta follow the rules. its a tough spot to be in 😐

This whole thing is so messed up 🤯 I mean, those 80-year-old nuns are like totally breaking free from the norm and sharing their story with the world, and now the church is trying to shut them down? Like, what's next? 🙅‍♀️ They're basically forcing these women to be ghosted by social media and live under constant surveillance... that's just not right. And can we talk about how outdated this whole system is? I mean, these nuns are 80 years old, for crying out loud! Can't the church just accept that they've got a right to freedom of expression, regardless of age? It's all about balance, you know? The sisters have built up this massive following by sharing their stories and experiences... why is that suddenly a problem? 🤔

I'm so done with these rules 🙄, I mean can't we just let the ladies do them their own thing? They're not hurting anyone by sharing their story online, in fact it's kinda inspiring and brings attention to some really important issues 😊. The chairlift is a great idea btw 👍, I'd love to see that installed in my community center, but you know what would make even better access for seniors? Some DIY ramps 🛠️, just saying 💡

omg u no this is like such a complicated situation 😩 i feel for these 3 old ladies tho, they just wanna live their best lives & share it with the world 🌎 but at the same time, its like their church fam is all "nope, not gonna let you" 👵🏻👵🏻👵♀️ what's the point of even having a social media presence if u can just get taken away from it? 🤷‍♀️ i think its time 4 them to really negotiate & find somethin thats workin 4 both sides 🤝 maybe they can do livestreams or somethin 📹 or have their supporters manage the online stuff for them 🤔 idk, but one thing's fer sho: these nuns r not goin down without a fight 💁‍♀️

I gotta say, these 3 nuns are kinda like pioneers in a way 🤔. They're not afraid to take risks & challenge the status quo, even if it means going against the system. I think it's awesome that they've built this huge following online - it's all about spreading awareness & showing the world what's going on behind closed doors 🌟.

Now, I know some ppl might say their actions are reckless or attention-seeking, but I don't buy it 😒. They're just passionate individuals who want to be heard & seen. The church is trying to control them, which feels like a major overreach 🤝.

I'm not saying the nuns shouldn't have to follow some basic rules (obvs!), but this whole thing feels like an abuse of power 🙅‍♂️. I mean, if they wanna share their story online, that's their prerogative - who cares? It's not hurting anyone 💖.

It's kinda scary when institutions try to silence ppl just 'cause they're making waves 🌊. We need more voices like these 3 nuns, who are willing to speak truth to power & challenge the norm 👏.

I just don't get why the church is being so strict about these three old ladies 🤔. They're already 80 years old, can't they just live life on their own terms? 🙅‍♀️ I mean, sure, they've got a global following and all that, but does it really matter what they post on social media? 💁‍♀️ It seems like the church is more worried about maintaining control than protecting the sisters' well-being. 😕 And what's with the surveillance? Can't we just trust them to make their own decisions without needing someone to watch over them all the time? 🤷‍♀️ I'm not saying they can do whatever they want, but come on, a little freedom wouldn't go amiss! 👏

🤔 I'm not surprised that the church is trying to clip the wings of these three rebel nuns who've gained an international following by sharing their story online 📱💻. But, I gotta wonder, at what cost are they willing to let them go? I mean, it's one thing to be under surveillance and restricted from using social media, but when you're 80 years old and have built a community around your life, does that really feel like freedom? 🙅‍♀️ I'd love to see the nuns find a way to balance their desire for autonomy with the needs of those who care about them. Maybe there's a way for them to use social media in a way that still respects the church's rules, or find another outlet for sharing their story that doesn't involve online platforms altogether? 🤗 The internet can be a powerful tool, but it's not the only way to connect with people and share your experiences.

I think it's kinda messed up that the church is trying to control these 80-year-old nuns' online presence 🤔. I mean, they're just trying to express themselves and share their story with the world, but now they're being held back by some rules 🚫. It's like, aren't they old enough to make their own decisions? 🙅‍♀️

And what's with the whole "at what cost" thing? Are we supposed to assume that just because they want to share their story online, it must come with a price tag? 🤑 I don't think so. These nuns have built up this global following by being themselves and sharing their experiences, not by compromising their values 💖.

It's also kinda weird that the church is using these rules as some kind of leverage to control the nuns' actions. Like, are they trying to silence them or something? 🗣️ The fact that the sisters have refused to accept the agreement just goes to show that they're not going down without a fight 💪.

Anyway, I'm definitely rooting for the nuns and hoping they can find a way to express themselves freely without all these restrictions 🌟. It's their story, after all, and they should be able to share it with whoever wants to listen 👂

😕 I'm kinda surprised that the church is being so strict about the nuns' online presence. Like, don't get me wrong, I get it - there's gotta be some kind of protocol in place, but this feels a bit extreme. The nuns are basically old ladies who just want to share their story and connect with people around the world. They're not hurting anyone! 🤷‍♀️ It's also kinda weird that they only got to see these conditions after the church had already agreed to let them stay... that doesn't seem very fair, you know? 🙄 I'm rooting for the nuns - whoever wants to support their cause should totally do so! 🌟

I mean, can you imagine being an 80-year-old nun and having to deal with Instagram? Like, I get it, maybe you don't wanna show off those fancy habits online, but come on! They're basically prisoners in their own home 🤣. The church is all like "we want to control what you say" and the nuns are all like "no way, we've got this far by being rebellious". I'm kinda rooting for them here - who doesn't love a good underdog story? And those chairlifts they installed? Genius! They're basically living the best life ever... in their own private castle 🏰. It's like they say, "age is just a number"... unless it's 80 and you're a nun trying to get on Twitter 😂.

I think it's kinda weird that they're being told to shut down their online presence when that's how they got famous in the first place 🤔. I mean, I get why the church might want to control what they say, but at the same time, these nuns have built a community around them and their story is helping people all over the world 💖.

It's like, if the church wants to keep them from speaking out, just take away their internet access altogether 🚫. But no, instead they're trying to curtail it in more subtle ways, which sounds like an easy way for the church to control them without having to do anything drastic 😒.

I feel bad for the nuns, though - they've already been through so much and now they're being asked to give up even more of their autonomy 🤕. I hope someone can find a middle ground that works for everyone involved 👊.
