Report: Eagles to interview Texans QBs coach for offensive coordinator

Eagles to Revisit Texans QBs Coach Jerrod Johnson for Offensive Coordinator Role

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to re-interview Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, according to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic. This comes as the Eagles continue their search for an offensive coordinator to replace Kevin Patullo, who was let go recently.

Johnson, 37, has a familiar connection with new Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, having coached alongside him in Indianapolis from 2019-2021. The two share experience working under the same coaching philosophy, and Johnson's familiarity with Sirianni is an attractive factor for the Eagles.

As an assistant quarterbacks coach with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and offensive quality control coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2019 to 2020, Johnson has also gained valuable experience in NFL offenses. His most recent stint as quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans in 2023 could also play a role in his potential candidacy.

However, Sirianni's decision to interview Johnson twice may be influenced by the fact that the former quarterback coach at the collegiate level has not called plays in the NFL. Despite this, Johnson's coaching experience and familiarity with Sirianni make him an attractive candidate for the Eagles' offensive coordinator position.

The Texans' struggles on offense under C.J. Stroud over the past two seasons have contributed to their ranking among the league's lower-scoring teams. A new OC could potentially revamp the team's attack, making Johnson a viable option despite his limited NFL experience as an OC.

It remains to be seen whether Sirianni will ultimately extend the interview process to Johnson for a second time or if another candidate emerges.

I'm low-key hyped about Jerrod Johnson being interviewed again by the Eagles 🤩. I mean, he's got some sick connections with Nick Sirianni and has been working on his coaching skills outside of the NFL 📚. His experience as a QB coach in college can definitely translate to the pro level, and who knows, maybe he'll bring some fresh ideas to the table 😊. Plus, it's not like the Eagles are stuck with no options - there's plenty of other OCs out there who have called plays in the NFL already 🤔. Fingers crossed they find someone who can turn around that Texans offense 💪!

OMG, I'm super stoked that Jerrod Johnson is going back to re-interview with the Eagles 🤩! As someone who's been following the QB coaching scene closely, I know how valuable his experience is - not just with Nick Sirianni, but also in NFL offenses in general 📈. The fact that he hasn't called plays before is a legit concern, but let's be real, Sirianni might be trying to prove a point by giving him another shot 😏. The Texans' struggles on offense are no secret, and if Johnson can bring some new ideas to the table, it could make a huge difference for C.J. Stroud (and the team in general) 🤞. Fingers crossed he gets the job! 👍

omg u guys i cant even believe its gonna happen 🤯 like i was just thinking about how much we need someone new for that job and now it seems like theyre gonna give Jerrod Johnson another shot lol i mean i get it he has a connection with Sirianni from their time in Indy but cmon 2 interviews already? 🙄

i feel bad for the other ppl who applied tho i heard rumors about one of them getting super close to the interview process and now its like theyre out of the running 🤷‍♀️ anyway back to Johnson... idk if i trust him fully but at least he has some experience under his belt from his stints in Minny and Indy so fingers crossed he can bring some life to that offense for the Eagles 🦅

🤔 Just wondering why they're re-interviewing him for the second time? I mean, he's got some good connections with Coach Sirianni and has experience in the NFL... but is there something specific that's holding him back from getting the job? 🤷‍♂️

I'm not buying all the hype around Jerrod Johnson becoming the next Eagles OC 🤔. I mean, he's got some solid credentials from his stints in Indy and Vikings, but calling plays in the NFL is a whole different beast 💪. And don't even get me started on how the Eagles are looking for someone to fix their offense after going up against C.J. Stroud and the Texans' struggles 📉. It's like they're trying to solve world hunger with one hire 😂. Sirianni might know him from their college days, but can he actually run a successful NFL offense? Only time will tell... 👀
