Saratoga city manager leaves position to serve in his hometown of Gilroy

Saratoga City Manager Trades in Urban Politics for Hometown Charm

In a move that has left many wondering, Saratoga City Manager Matt Morley is trading in the demands of city politics for a life closer to home. Morley, who took the helm as Saratoga's top administrator just six months ago, has decided to leave behind the challenges and stresses of urban governance to become Gilroy's new city administrator.

For Morley, the decision was a no-brainer. His wife, their parents, and he all call Gilroy home, making it an impossible choice to resist when offered the opportunity to return to his hometown. "It's really that sense of home that drew me to Gilroy," Morley explained in an interview. "I want to be able to get back to the community I grew up in and make a difference."

As he prepares to leave Saratoga behind, Morley is eager to bring his expertise to Gilroy and tackle some of the city's most pressing issues. His priorities include driving economic development, addressing homelessness, and revitalizing downtown areas. He plans to work closely with local nonprofit organizations and county agencies to address these challenges.

One key difference between Saratoga and Gilroy is the level of service provided by each city. In Saratoga, services like police and fire protection are contracted out to neighboring cities, while Gilroy has its own departments. Morley is looking forward to having his own in-house teams to manage these services.

Despite his short tenure as Saratoga's top administrator, Morley made a lasting impact on the city. He helped organize the first "Safe Routes to School" event in years and was instrumental in navigating over 20 builder's remedy applications for housing developments.

As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, Morley is confident that his experience and skills will serve him well in Gilroy. "We're excited to have someone with Matt's experience and knowledge on board," said Gilroy Mayor Greg Bozzo. "And the fact that he's coming home to be the city administrator of a community he grew up in is something that's very promising."

In Saratoga, Morley's departure has left a power vacuum, with his assistant city manager Leslie Arroyo taking over as interim city manager until a new leader can be found. Despite the uncertainty, one thing is clear: Matt Morley is ready for a new challenge and is eager to make a difference in Gilroy.

😊 So I'm reading about this city manager guy Matt Morley who's leaving Saratoga to go back to his hometown of Gilroy? Like, I get it, family ties are everything, right? But what really caught my attention is that he was only there for 6 months! 🀯 That's like, a super short stint in the mayor game. Anyway, from what I've gathered, he's gonna focus on economic development and homelessness in Gilroy. And hey, at least it's not all bad news, the city has its own police and fire departments now instead of outsourcing them? πŸ‘

πŸ€” This guy's gotta be feeling super relieved that he's leaving behind all that stress & drama of city politics πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ I mean, who wouldn't want to trade that in for some small-town charm & a sense of community? It's cool that he's still using his skills & expertise to make a difference, just in a different way πŸ’Ό. And it's awesome that he gets to come back home and be part of the community that raised him – it's like he's getting a second chance πŸ”„. I'm sure Gilroy is gonna love having him on board! πŸ‘

I feel bad for Saratoga, they're losing their city manager πŸ€•. I mean, it's not like he was a terrible manager or anything, but I guess it's just hard to resist the call of hometown charm 😊. It's actually kind of cool that he gets to go back to where he grew up and make a difference in his community. He's got some big shoes to fill in Gilroy too, but with his experience and all, I'm sure they'll be okay πŸ’ͺ.

Sounds like Matt Morley is making a pretty smart move πŸ€”. Leaving urban politics behind for a hometown gig can't be easy, but it's great that he's prioritizing family and community over the stress of city governance. I'm curious to see how his experience from Saratoga will translate to Gilroy - it'll be interesting to compare the two cities' approaches to services like public safety πŸš¨πŸ’¦. Plus, reviving downtown areas and driving economic development are some big challenges for any city administrator. Fingers crossed he can make a positive impact in Gilroy! πŸ‘

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised they're losing their city manager so soon. Like, what's next? Trade in city politics for online shopping or something πŸ˜‚. I guess it makes sense that he'd want to go back to his hometown and be closer to family, but I wonder if the stress of city politics was really worth leaving behind 🀯. And good luck with Gilroy's homeless issue - sounds like a tough one to tackle πŸ’Έ.

I get why Morley would wanna go back to Gilroy, it's def his hometown and he's got family there πŸ€—. But I'm not sure if this is the best move for him, considering Saratoga was just getting him settled into a big role. He helped out a lot with those 'Safe Routes to School' events and builder's remedy apps - that's some quality work right there πŸ’ͺ. Now he's gotta tackle Gilroy's issues on his own? That's a big responsibility πŸ€”. I'm hoping he'll be able to bring Saratoga's expertise back to the table, but at the same time, I'm stoked he's gonna make a difference in a community he cares about ❀️.

so he's leaving Saratoga for a "hometown" gig in Gilroy? sounds like he's trading in the stress of city politics for some small-town charm... but let's be real, what's the real motive here? is it really just about getting back to his family or is there more to it?

😊 I gotta say, I'm kinda jealous of Matt Morley's decision 🀣. Who wouldn't want to leave all that stress behind and come back to their hometown? I mean, his wife and parents are there too πŸ™, so it's like the perfect combination - he gets to stay close to home and make a difference in a community he loves ❀️. Plus, it's awesome that he's bringing his expertise to Gilroy and tackling some of those big issues πŸ“ˆ. Let's see how it all plays out! πŸ‘€

omg what does matt morley mean by "sense of home"? does it really just refer to where he lives? πŸ€” i mean im happy for him that he's moving back to his hometown but it sounds kinda vague... does he plan on making major changes or just kinda chillin'? πŸ’€

πŸ€” so i'm not surprised that matt morley is leaving saratoga, but i am a bit weirded out by how fast he's moving on from this whole city manager thing πŸ™οΈ like, didn't he just take the job six months ago? still, it's kinda cool that he gets to come back to his hometown of gilroy and make a difference in a community he knows and loves ❀️ but i do have some doubts about whether he'll be able to balance his personal life with the demands of city work 🀯 especially since he's got his whole family there already πŸ‘ͺ anyway, it'll be interesting to see how things play out in gilroy and if morley can make a lasting impact πŸ“ˆ

Omg I'm so hyped for Matt Morley!!! 🀩 He's literally coming home to his hometown and I know he's gonna do amazing things! I love how he's making the switch from urban politics to making a real impact in his community. Homelessness and economic development are such important issues, and I'm sure he'll be able to make some real changes. Plus, it's so cool that he gets to work with local nonprofits and county agencies - collaboration is key! 🀝 I'm rooting for him all the way, Gilroy is gonna thrive under his leadership πŸ’ͺ

😊 I'm not surprised to see our local leaders making moves like this, it's like they're trying to escape the drama of city hall 🀣 but seriously, it's great that Matt Morley is taking his expertise back to Gilroy where he can make a real difference in the community. The fact that he's prioritizing economic development and homelessness issues shows that he's got his finger on the pulse of what matters most to the people of Gilroy πŸ’ΈπŸ . I'm curious to see how this new chapter plays out for him and the city, wish him all the best 🀞

I'm not sure about this move by Matt Morley πŸ€”. Leaving a high-profile job like Saratoga's city manager just six months in? It sounds like he's running away from the challenges instead of facing them head-on πŸ’ͺ. I mean, what if he fails in Gilroy and can't handle it? He'll be stuck in another small town with limited resources 😬. And what about all those people who invested time and trust in him as Saratoga's leader? Is this really just a case of "home sweet home" 🏠? I don't think so...

you know what's weird I was just thinking about this yesterday I went to this super cute little coffee shop downtown and they had the most amazing cold brew it was so smooth πŸ™Œ anyway back to Saratoga, I'm sure Morley will do great things for Gilroy but what's with all these cities contracting out their services? like isn't that just a hassle? don't get me wrong I love a good cup of joe as much as the next person but have you ever tried to order a latte from a coffee shop that doesn't have one? not easy, trust me πŸ˜‚
