"Saturday Night Live": Trump throws self awards show to distract from ICE's "freaks and psychos"

US President Donald Trump has thrown himself an awards show, dubbed the 1st Annual Trumps, in a desperate attempt to shift attention away from his administration's dismal handling of migrant detention issues. The sketch, which aired during last Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Teyana Taylor, featured James Austin Johnson playing Trump as he accepted numerous gilded prizes.

In a bizarre twist on Sally Field's iconic Oscar acceptance speech, Trump expressed his affection for himself, crediting "the big man upstairs" – referring to his brain tumor – and expressing gratitude to the only person he deemed worthy of recognition. The ceremony also paid homage to NATO, checks and balances, and even Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The sketch featured cameos from Argentinian president Javier Milei and Elon Musk, with Mike Myers kicking off an "in memoriam" segment that included tributes to people affected by Trump's policies. As for the real-life ICE actions, it seems they remain a significant concern, despite Trump's efforts to divert attention.

With this self-congratulatory awards show, SNL appears to be using satire to shed light on Trump's questionable behavior and attempt to raise awareness about his administration's record on immigration issues.

omg i cant believe trump just threw himself an awards show lol 🤣 what a joke. like who gives an award to themselves? its so weird that he thinks giving some fake prizes will make ppl forget about the migrant detention mess and stuff. newsflash don't work that way, trump.

i gotta give credit tho to snl for doing this sketch its super funny especially when james austen johnson is playing trumps all like "woohoo im so great" 🤣 and the part where he thanks his brain tumor lolololol.

but seriously though, i hope it makes ppl think about how terrible trump's admin has been on immigration. we need to keep calling him out on this stuff. its not funny anymore its sad that ppl have to live with these issues

omg can't believe trump is literally throwing himself an awards show like what a complete joke 🤣 but at the same time snl is lowkey genius for using satire to roast him and bring attention to those migrant detention issues it's like they're saying "hey trump you think you're so special just because you're out of office but we're still talking about your shadiness" 💁‍♀️ meanwhile ice actions are still a huge problem 🚫👎

This whole thing is just cringeworthy 🙄. Like, seriously? A guy who thinks he's a winner throwing himself an awards show to distract from all the controversy surrounding him? It's just laughable. And what's with the "big man upstairs" thing? Is he trying to say his brain tumor made him into some kind of super president or something? 🤣

And I have to say, I'm not surprised SNL is using satire to take aim at Trump's antics. That's basically what comedy shows are for – poking fun at the absurdity of life and pointing out the hypocrisy. But still, it feels like they're just rubbing it in his face, you know? Like, Trump can't even take a joke about himself anymore 🤦‍♂️.

Anyway, I'm not buying into this whole "awards show" thing as some kind of PR stunt. It's just another example of Trump trying to salvage what's left of his reputation by throwing himself at anything that'll get him attention 📰. And honestly, it's kinda working...

🙌 I'm loving the idea of a parody awards show like this! It's crazy how far Trump has fallen that he needs to create his own ceremony to try and be relevant again 🤣. But seriously, it's kinda sad that SNL had to resort to making fun of him in such a way. Can't they just focus on telling good stories instead? 📺

And omg the part with Mike Myers is so savage! I was actually surprised to see Elon Musk as a guest star 😂. But what's up with Marjorie Taylor Greene getting an shoutout? Isn't she like, super divisive? 😕

I do think SNL is trying to tackle some heavy issues with this sketch, but it feels kinda shallow at the same time 🤔. Like, are they just pokes fun at Trump or what's really going on behind the scenes? More context would've been nice 📚

Anyway, it's a pretty interesting idea, even if it is super Trump-y 😂. Maybe SNL can try to do something better next time 🤞

LOL what a joke 🤣! Like anyone takes Trump seriously? He's just milking the attention for all it's worth 💸. Newsflash: we already know he's a master manipulator, so why bother pretending otherwise? It's like SNL is giving him his own reality show – "The Apprentice of Awkward" 📺. And can we talk about how awkward James Austin Johnson looked as Trump? Like, it was just too much 😂. But in all seriousness, it's actually kind of brilliant that they used satire to call out Trump's antics and bring attention back to the real issues, like migrant detention and ICE actions 🚨. It's a bold move, but I guess you can't make this stuff up! 👏
