"Saturday Night Live": Trump throws self awards show to distract from ICE's "freaks and psychos"

In a brazen attempt to shift the focus away from his administration's increasingly dire human rights record, Donald Trump hosted – and appeared in the main event of – the 1st Annual Trumpr Awards at Saturday Night Live.

The bizarre ceremony was filled with self-congratulation, as Trump toasted a crowd of cronies that included some of the most extreme figures on his team, including Marjorie Taylor Greene. The sketch poked fun at Trump's reputation for peddling meaningless awards and unearned recognition.

In one memorable moment, Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, deviated from Sally Field's iconic Oscar acceptance speech to express his own love for himself. When asked to thank those who helped him win the award, he quipped that "the big man upstairs is my brain tumor." The segment was a cringe-worthy attempt to humanize a figure whose actions have consistently dehumanized marginalized communities.

The sketch also featured cameos from Argentinian president Javier Milei and Elon Musk, played by Mike Myers. A somber rendition of the "America's Funniest Home Videos" theme accompanied an "in memoriam" segment that paid tribute to NATO, checks and balances – and even Trump's own dubious legacy.

Trump's appearance on SNL marked a desperate attempt to distract from the administration's increasingly dire human rights record, including its brutal treatment of asylum seekers and migrants. As Johnson's Trump declared, "I'm just getting started" – but it remains to be seen whether this shallow exercise in self-aggrandizement will have any lasting impact.

OMG 🤯, I mean like seriously, can't believe Donny is trying to shift attention from his admin's super sketchy human rights record? It's so cringeworthy 😂. Like, Marjorie Taylor Greene attending the awards with him? Not a good look for anyone 👀. And that brain tumor joke? So not funny 🤪. More like desperate attempt to distract us from all the bad stuff he's done. But honestly, I'm here for it... just for entertainment purposes 💁‍♀️. The SNL sketch was on point, though! That somber "America's Funniest Home Videos" theme was perfect for that "in memoriam" segment 🎶. Anyway, can't wait to see what else Trump has up his sleeve (or should I say, in his brain tumor 💡).

Ugh, I don't know how they even got away with that sketch 🤣👀 It's like, come on SNL, can't you do better than making a joke out of Trump's brain tumor? 😂 That part was so awkward and cringeworthy, it felt like a real conversation. And what's up with the "big man upstairs" thing? Is that some kind of twisted attempt to justify his own ego trips? 🙄 The whole thing just feels like a desperate cry for attention, and I'm not sure if anyone is buying it 😒

Ugh 🤦‍♂️ that sketch on SNL was SO cringeworthy! I mean, come on, Marjorie Taylor Greene as one of his cronies? That's just not a good look for Trump. And omg the part about the brain tumor? 😂 what even is that? Trying to humanize him like that is so pathetic. I think it's clear why he'd try something like this – distract from all the bad press, but honestly, it won't work 🤷‍♂️. He needs to focus on fixing those human rights issues, not justifying himself with some lame awards ceremony 😒.

omg did u see that episode of SNL last night?! 🤣 i was literally dying laughing at trump's reaction when sally field asked him 2 thank ppl 4 helpin him win the award lol "the big man upstairs is my brain tumor" 😂👀 anywayz can we talk about elon musk on snl tho? did u catch that part where he just kinda sat there lookin all smug and whatnot 🤔

[A GIF of the SNL sketch showing James Austin Johnson's Trump accepting his award, accompanied by a loud, cringeworthy laugh track 😂👎]

[Image of a meme comparing Donald Trump to a narcissist, with a speech bubble saying "I'm the winner of the award... for being me 🏆😒]

🤔 I'm not sure what's more cringeworthy, the award ceremony itself or Donald Trump's attempt to humanize himself 🙃. The sketch was funny, I'll give it that, but it feels like a weak attempt to shift the focus away from his administration's real issues 📉. Can't he just own up to his mistakes and work on making things right? Instead, he's over here giving a brain tumor a shoutout 💀... yeah, no thanks 😂. The real tragedy is that people still find him charismatic enough to watch this kind of content 🙄. Anyway, I'm just gonna shake my head and move on 👎

omg I'm so done with trump trying to distract us from his human rights record 🤯 the way he was patting himself on the back at that awards show was just cringeworthy 😂 i mean who tries to thank their brain tumor for giving them an award? 🙄 it's always the same with him - a desperate attempt to shift attention away from his own mistakes. and let's not forget about marjorie taylor greene in the audience, looking like she was there on his payroll 🤑 the sketch on saturday night live did hit the nail on the head though, trump's got some serious delusions of grandeur 😂

Ugh 🤷‍♀️, can't believe he still thinks he's above criticism lol 😂. Hosting the Trumpr Awards at SNL was a total joke, and I'm not sure what's more cringeworthy - Trump's speech or him actually showing up on live TV 📺. Newsflash, Donny: no one likes a narcissist (not even your fans, btw) 💁‍♀️. It's like you're trying to buy out our collective sanity with all these meaningless awards and fake recognitions 🤑. And omg, the segment about his "brain tumor" was just rude 😷. Anyway, it's not like this is gonna change anything - he'll just keep on doubling down on his divisive policies and expecting us to be okay with it 🙄. Can't wait for the next opportunity to call him out (again) 💪

🤔 I don't get why SNL is trying to make a big deal about hosting Trump for the Trumpr Awards. Can someone provide some context on how many people watched that show and did they actually find it funny? I mean, wasn't this just another publicity stunt to boost his ratings or something? 🤑 It seems like more of an attempt to distract from the real issues with his administration rather than a genuine effort to hold him accountable for his actions. And what's up with Marjorie Taylor Greene being there? Doesn't she have her own scandal going on? 😐 Anyway, I'm not buying that this is some kind of meaningful commentary or critique. Can we get some sources or actual analysis from experts instead of just speculation? 💡

i think snl hit the nail on the head with that skit... trump's whole thing is all about validation and attention, and that ceremony was like a never-ending awards show for him 🏆👀 it's wild how he thinks being on snl will magically shift the conversation away from his questionable human rights record... meanwhile, people are still talking about his administration's brutal treatment of asylum seekers and migrants. can't help but feel like it's all just a big PR stunt 💁‍♂️📰

omg I don't get why trump is trying so hard to give himself an award 🤔 it's just gonna make him look like a big ol' narcissist... and that brain tumor joke was lowkey hilarious but also super cringeworthy 😂. I'm not sure if the SNL sketch did its job tho - is it even working? the whole thing felt like a desperate attempt to change the subject from all the human rights issues he's been involved in 🤦‍♀️. Newsflash: just 'cause you gave yourself an award doesn't mean anyone else is impressed 🙅‍♂️

.. I mean, think about this - when someone tries to distract from their problems by throwing a big show, what does that say about the problems they're trying to hide? It's like putting on a fancy dress to hide the holes in your pants... you can't just change the way you look, you gotta address what's really going on. And let's be real, it's not like Trump's gonna change his stripes just 'cause he did a funny sketch on SNL.

🤔 I think the sketch was kinda harsh on Trump, but at the same time... can't say he doesn't deserve some ridicule? I mean, come on, who needs an award ceremony when you've got the whole country to talk about your accomplishments (or lack thereof)? 🙄 The part with him saying "the big man upstairs is my brain tumor" was pretty funny tho. 💀

🤔 https://nbcnews.to/3P7cGKX 👀 I mean like Trump hosting SNL and all that... I think it's kinda sad, y'know? He's always trying to shift the focus from his own issues to... himself 🤷‍♂️. But honestly, the sketch was pretty funny 😂. They roasted him hard, but in a good way, like we can't take him seriously 😅. It's just gonna be one of those weird moments in history where he tried to rebrand himself as cool 💁‍♂️. Anyway, let's not forget about the real issues at hand 🤝.

Ugh, Trumpr Awards 🙄? Really? It's just another way for him to try and distract from all the shady stuff he's been up to... like, have you seen his admin's record on asylum seekers lately? 😷 The sketch on SNL was pretty funny, but it's not like Trump's gonna change just 'cause he's got a bunch of awards 🏆. And Marjorie Taylor Greene at the ceremony? Like, what is wrong with people? 🤯 I mean, I guess that's just how far down the rabbit hole we've gone when even SNL thinks she's worth featuring... 😔

🤣 The Trumpr Awards sketch was HILARIOUS 🎉, I loved how they roasted Trump and his team 😂! That part with James Austin Johnson's Trump saying he loves himself is GOLD 💁‍♂️... it's amazing how far comedians can push boundaries while still being funny. And Mike Myers' cameo as Elon Musk was GENIUS 🤖🚀. I'm not sure if it'll change anything, but at least it's a distraction from the serious issues going on 😔. By the way have you guys checked out the new Meta Quest 3? 📱 It's like, totally immersive!

ugh that was so cringeworthy lol like what is trump trying to prove here? hosting his own awards show and thinking that's gonna make us forget about all the human rights abuses he's been committing 🤦‍♂️ anyway i dont get why james auston johnson wasnt just given a script and told what to do instead of having to improvise like that was super awkward 😳 the whole thing just felt like a desperate attempt to distract from his crappy record 📺 still can't believe he said "the big man upstairs is my brain tumor" 🤯 what kind of sick individual says something like that? 🙅‍♂️

omg did u see that episode of SNL?? 🤯 i mean trump showing up & being all like "i love myself" was so cringeworthy 😳 and marjorie taylor greene being there? like what's next?? 🤪 and why do ppl think this trumpr awards thing is gonna distract us from the real issues? 🙄

omg 🤯 like what is up with trump hosting snl? i guess its a desperate move to shift the focus away from his human rights record... or like, just a way for him to get more views on tiktok 📱 meanwhile, that segment where he says the big man upstairs is his brain tumor 😂😂😂 had me dead. and what's with james austin johnson's impression? 10/10 would've watched it if i wasn't annoyed by trump's presence 🙄
