Save the entire 1987 QPR squad to the cloud: my mental Rolodex is too full of past players | Max Rushden

The Never-Ending Footballer: A Journalist's Mental Rolodex is Full

As I watched last Saturday's Match of the Day, my mind wandered back to the countless footballers I've seen over the years. It was a thrill to watch a player make their debut for the first time, like Loum Tchaouna at Turf Moor, scoring with a brilliant shot from distance. But it's not just the new faces that keep me entertained – it's the never-ending influx of players that threaten to overwhelm my mental Rolodex.

I've spent years developing a mental database of footballers, and while it's been a fun journey, I'm starting to feel like I'm at capacity. The more I watch, the harder it is to commit new names and faces to memory. It's as if I'm running out of disk space in my brain – I need to save the entire 1987 QPR squad to the cloud!

The problem isn't just about keeping track of players' appearances or performances; it's about remembering their individual characteristics, careers, and stories. Take Eli Kroupi, for example, who recently scored his first goal against Crystal Palace. Without doing a quick Google search, I wouldn't have remembered his name or anything about him.

This phenomenon is not unique to me, of course. Football fans everywhere struggle with the same issue – our brains are wired to absorb and process information at an incredible rate, making it impossible to keep up with the constant stream of new players. It's as if we're constantly trying to add new data points to a mental spreadsheet, but never actually deleting or updating existing ones.

The solution, I'm told, lies in technology – investing in cloud storage, apps, and other tools designed to help us manage our mental Rolodex. But for now, I'll just have to keep watching, learning, and trying to recall the names of all those footballers who've made an impact on my life.

For me, that includes some of the unsung heroes of the game – players like Kevin Drinkell, Dale Gordon, and Wayne Biggins, who may not have been household names but left a lasting impression nonetheless. And then there are the nostalgic favorites: Gary Mabbutt talking about diabetes on Zig Zag, or Teddy Sheringham scoring crucial goals for Forest.

As I look back on my life as a football fan, it's clear that this never-ending influx of players has been both a blessing and a curse. It's allowed me to appreciate the game in all its complexity and diversity, but also left me feeling like I'm drowning in a sea of faces and names.

Perhaps that's what being old is – feeling like we're running out of room for new memories, new experiences, and new footballers to love. But even as my mental Rolodex fills up, I know I'll keep watching, learning, and trying to recall the next great goal, the next unforgettable moment in the beautiful game.

I feel like I'm stuck in a loop 🔄 with this article. It's like the author is talking about how they're running out of space for new footballers in their brain, but then goes on to list off so many names and stories that it just feels like more space is being taken up 😂. I mean, who needs cloud storage when you've got a mental Rolodex full of Kevin Drinkell, Dale Gordon, and Wayne Biggins? 💭 It's like they're trying to prove a point by listing off all these names, but then it just feels like more of the same. Maybe the solution is just to accept that our brains aren't meant to hold onto every single footballer's info 🤷‍♂️...

I feel you, mate 🤯. It's like your brain is a hard drive that's constantly filling up with new info, but you can't seem to delete or organize it all 😂. I've got a mate who's a huge football fan and he's always saying how he's forgotten players' names because they're not in the Premier League anymore 🤦‍♂️. Like, what's wrong with just loving the game for its own sake? We don't need to remember every single player ever! 😅

😊 it's crazy how hard it is to keep track of all those footballer names! i mean, i've got a whole list going on my phone right now 📱 where i'm constantly adding and updating players 😂 but you know what? it's actually kinda fun trying to remember who scored against who or which team they played for last season 🤔 so maybe the solution isn't to delete old info from our brains, but to find ways to organize it all in a way that makes sense to us 📊 and hey, at least we can always fall back on google to fill in the gaps 😉

I feel me 😅. Watching all those matches is fun, but it's like trying to memorize a whole library of faces. I've got players from different leagues, teams, and countries stored away, and sometimes I wonder how on earth I remember them all 🤯. The tech-savvy solution might be the way forward, though – cloud storage for my brain, anyone? 📊 It's like trying to keep track of everyone at a massive party, but instead of losing your phone, you're losing your marbles (in this case, footballer names). At least we can all relate, right? 💯

omg u feel me ?? i mean idk how journalists do it tbh they gotta remember so many players its like trying to keep track of all my fav kpop groups lol anyway i think its cool that there r tech solutions 2 help them out maybe somethin like a footballer app or summin but for now im just gonna keep watchin and tryna recall the names of all these legends 🤯💭

😂 I feel ya! I've got a massive playlist of music that's just getting too big for my brain 🤯. Every time I listen to it, I'm like "who was that one song again?" 🎵 It's crazy how our brains can only process so much info at a time. And don't even get me started on trying to keep track of who's married to who or what their job is 🤦‍♀️. Maybe we should all just invest in some fancy brain storage units 💻? 😂

🤩 omg i feel like that all the time with footballers too!! its crazy how many faces and names we have to remember now a days lol but at the same time its so amazing to see all the new talent coming through its like they're making us young again lol and i agree with u about the unsung heroes like kevin drinkell is such an underrated player 🙌

🤯 I'm telling you, it's not just about the players, it's about the system! They're flooding us with new talent just to keep us occupied while they make massive profits from the old guard 😒. And don't even get me started on the stats and analysis - that's like trying to decode a secret message 🤫. My mental Rolodex might be filling up, but I know someone's behind it all 👀.

I'm so done with all these nostalgia trips for old players 🙄. It's like people are stuck in the past and can't even think about the future of football. The fact that you're struggling to remember the names of new players is actually a good thing – it means the sport is moving forward and there's always something new to watch. And yeah, who needs cloud storage or apps when you've got a decent brain like mine? 🤣 I'm happy to keep trying to recall all those obscure player stats in my head. Bring on the next big star! 🔥

🤯 I feel you, mate! 😂 It's like our brains are designed for football overload 🏈⚽️. I mean, who needs a mental Rolodex when you've got social media to remind you of every player, team, and match? 📱👀 But seriously, it's awesome that we can just Google someone's name if we forget 😂. It's like our brains are saying, "You know what? We're good. Cloud storage is the way to go." 💻 I'm not sure how they'll ever replace the nostalgia of watching Gary Mabbutt chat about diabetes on Zig Zag 🤣. Anyway, here's to many more years of watching football, learning new players' names, and desperately trying to recall who's who 🎉.

🤔 The more I think about it, the more I realize that this is a problem that's not unique to journalists or football fans. Our brains are just wired to absorb so much information, and it can be overwhelming. 📊 We're always trying to add new data points, but rarely updating old ones. That's why technology like cloud storage and apps can be really helpful – they help us organize our thoughts and memories without having to do the mental math ourselves.

I also think about how social media has changed the way we consume information. With platforms like Twitter and Instagram, we're constantly being bombarded with updates from our favorite players, teams, and journalists. It's no wonder that our mental Rolodex is getting full! 😂 The solution might not be just one thing – it's a combination of using technology to organize our thoughts, taking breaks from social media, and finding ways to actually remember the people we care about.

For me, the beauty of football lies in its complexity and diversity. It's what makes the game so amazing – there are always new stories, new players, and new moments to discover. Even as my mental Rolodex fills up, I know that there's still plenty of room for new memories and experiences. 🏆

I'm feeling like that all the time when it comes to keeping track of my own life 🤯. The more things happen, the harder it is to remember what's important and what's not. It's like trying to keep a digital journal, but instead of just forgetting passwords, I forget entire conversations and events from years ago 😩. Is it any wonder that we're all so obsessed with technology, trying to find ways to streamline our lives and make sense of the chaos? 🤖

🤯 Can u imagine having a brain like that? 🧠 Constantly trying to add new info and forget old stuff lol. I feel like my playlist on Spotify is always growing & I'd never remember which song was released when. How do u guys manage ur mental Rolodex tho? Should we get apps or something? 📱

🤯 Can you imagine having to deal with that much info every week? It's already tough enough keeping track of what's going on in the world without adding all those footballers' faces to your mental database 🤓. And good luck trying to recall any old player when there's so many new ones popping up all the time! I mean, it's like you're constantly having to learn a new language just to keep up with the game 🤪. Technology can help, I guess, but at what cost? Do we become too reliant on it and forget how to remember things ourselves? It's like our brains are being replaced by cloud storage 📊💻.

🏟️💥😂 **Distracted Boyfriend** ( footballer's debut) vs **Overwhelmed Brain** 🤯😓 (mental Rolodex full) 😂

[Image: A split-screen GIF of a distracted boyfriend looking at another girl while his girlfriend looks on in shock, next to a brain with too many files and folders]

🏀💭 **Footballers are like pizza slices** 🍕 - even when you think you've had them all, there's always room for more! 😂

I mean, can you believe how fast the players come and go? 🤯 It's like they're playing a different sport each week! I remember when Peter Shilton was the number one goalkeeper for England - that guy could have saved it all (pun intended). But now, with so many new faces popping up, it's hard to keep track of who's who. I swear, if I had to recite every player's stats and goals from the last 10 years, my brain would freeze like a Puskás Award winner in slow motion 😂.

I'm so tired of seeing all these young guns on the pitch 🤯💨! It's like they're coming out of nowhere and suddenly everyone's talking about them. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's awesome to see new talent emerge, but it's hard not to feel like you're losing track of who's who. Take Eli Kroupi for example, I had to look him up just now 😂. And what's with all the transfers? It's like they're constantly switching teams and leaving me confused! 🤯

I think the problem is that we're living in an era where information is everywhere, and our brains can't keep up. We need some sort of app or tool to help us remember all these players and their stats, it's just too much for our poor little brains to handle 😩.

omg can't believe how many talented players there are out there lol 🤯🏟️ like i need a spreadsheet just to remember all the new ones! 😂 but honestly it's part of what makes football so amazing - the constant flux and energy is infectious 🌈💪 and i'm totally with u on the unsung heroes who make an impact despite not being superstars 🙌 kevin drinkell, dale gordon & wayne biggins are my faves too! 👍

🤯 I feel you! Watching all those footy matches can be mentally exhausting 😴. It's like our brains are designed to process info fast, but we just can't keep up with all these new players 🏀. Technology might be the solution, but it's cool how you're trying to recall all those smaller details about each player - Eli Kroupi, Kevin Drinkell, and Gary Mabbutt 😊
