Sci-Fi Satirical Drama ‘Yellow Cake’ Debuts Trailer Ahead of Rotterdam Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)

New Trailer for Sci-Fi Satire 'Yellow Cake' Debuts Ahead of Rotterdam Premiere

A trailer has been released for Tiago Melo's upcoming sci-fi satirical drama "Yellow Cake," which is set to premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Tiger Competition. The film, produced by Urânio Filmes, promises a unique blend of satire and social commentary.

The movie follows a group of scientists in Brazil who attempt to eradicate the Aedes aegypti mosquito through a secret experiment codenamed "Yellow Cake." Using uranium extracted from the region, they aim to sterilize the mosquitoes and contain the spread of dengue fever. However, when the experiment fails, it's up to one of the scientists, Rúbia Ribeiro, played by Rejane Faria, to join forces with local prospectors to reverse the imminent catastrophe.

The film is set in the Brazilian city of Picuí and delves into themes of science, power, and global politics. In an interview, director Tiago Melo explained that he aimed to create a "satire and reflection on Brazil's long-standing relationship with global powers that claim to 'help,' but often turn the country into a laboratory for their ideas."

Starring Faria, Valmir do Côco, Spencer Callahan, and Tânia Maria, who also appears in Oscar-nominated "The Secret Agent," "Yellow Cake" is set to premiere at Rotterdam in February. The film will be produced by Carol Ferreira, Leonardo Sette, Luiz Barbosa, and Melo, with the production companies Lucinda, Jaraguá, and Urânio, and co-producers Olhar and Cinemascópio.

OMG 🤯 have you guys seen this new trailer for "Yellow Cake"? I'm SO here for it! The way they're tackling the whole Brazil-US relationship thing is EVERYTHING 💁‍♀️. I mean, can we talk about how crazy it is that our own country gets used as a lab for others' experiments? 🤯 It's like, we're already dealing with so much, and now we're being treated like Guinea pigs too?! 🐭😱 Anyway, the cast looks AMAZING 👩‍🎤👨‍🔬 and I'm all about that satirical commentary 💡. Can't wait to see it at Rotterdam in Feb! 🌟

🤔 I'm not buying into this whole "Yellow Cake" thing... seems like just another overhyped sci-fi flick trying to pass off a bunch of pseudoscience as genuine commentary on global politics 🚫. Like, okay, Brazil's relationship with the world is complex and multifaceted, but do we really need a movie that's just gonna stir up controversy for the sake of it? 😒 And what's with the uranium extraction plotline? sounds like straight outta a Bond villain's lair 💣. Can't say I'm sold on this one... seems like just another example of Hollywood trying to cash in on current events 🤑

🤔 just watched that new trailer for "Yellow Cake" and I'm totally intrigued by this sci-fi satirical drama 🚀💡 it's like, have you ever thought about how global powers can kinda manipulate countries to do their dirty work? 🌎😬 and Brazil seems like the perfect test lab 😷 so yeah, Tiago Melo is onto something here... or maybe he's just trolling us? 😜 either way, Rejane Faria looks super talented as Rúbia Ribeiro 👩‍🔬 and I'm excited to see how this movie turns out 🎥 the fact that it's set in Picuí makes me wanna visit Brazil even more 🌴

🤔🎥 I'm already loving the vibes of "Yellow Cake"! A sci-fi satirical drama about scientists playing God is always a winner in my book. The premise sounds super intriguing, like how science can go wrong and lead to some crazy consequences 🐜💣. And I love that it's set in Brazil, giving me a chance to see our beautiful country on the big screen. Can't wait for the Rotterdam premiere! 🎬

I'm so stoked about this new trailer for "Yellow Cake" 🤩! I love how it's a satirical take on science and global politics, and the premise sounds super interesting. The idea of Brazil being treated like a lab by powerful countries is something we should be discussing more often. It's crazy how much control these powers have over our lives and resources.

I also think it's awesome that they're highlighting the struggles with mosquitoes in Brazil. It's such an important issue, especially for public health and the environment 🌿. The fact that the movie is a commentary on power dynamics and imperialism is really thought-provoking too. I'm excited to see how this film plays out at Rotterdam and what messages it conveys about our world today 💡

OMG I'm soooo hyped for this movie!!! 🤩 It looks like it's gonna be so thought provokin' & entertaining! The concept of using science as a way to control people is like totally relatable in today's world 💡 And the fact that it's set in Brazil makes me wanna jump for joy because I love seein' more stories about my home country 🌴 Can't wait to see Rejane Faria shine on screen! 🤩

🤔 so a movie about scientists trying to save brazil from dengue fever sounds super original... like we haven't seen that plot before in every other sci-fi film ever made. the whole "global powers" thing is pretty generic too, feels like they're just phoning it in with this satire vibe. still, rejane faria seems interesting and valmir do coco looks familiar 🤷‍♀️ can't wait for february to roll around so i can forget about this movie by then 😴
