Ugh, this is so messed up ... like what's going on with these cops?! They go in there without even announcing themselves, no de-escalation efforts whatsoever. It's all about force, force, force. And then they wonder why people are traumatized by it? It's not just about the protocols, it's about having a human touch and actually caring about the person's well-being. I mean, Sarah Jones is spot on with her statement... we need better training and more support for law enforcement to deal with mental health situations. And can't we talk about systemic racism too? It's like these communities are already at a disadvantage, and then you add this to the mix? It's just heartbreaking
I'm still trying to wrap my head around this ... it's like, we're making progress on mental health awareness, but then incidents like this happen and it feels like we've taken two steps back? The fact that police didn't even try to de-escalate the situation first is just mind-boggling. I mean, what's the protocol for dealing with a mentally ill person who's already having a meltdown? It's not like they're asking for help, they need it!
And can we talk about the systemic issues here? The fact that he was shot in the chest means he wasn't even given a chance to breathe out or say goodbye. That's just heartbreaking . We need to have a conversation about accountability and training for law enforcement, but also about the community support systems that should be in place to prevent these situations from happening in the first place.
I'm not buying the "cooperation" vibe from the Minneapolis Police Department. They're just sweeping this under the rug because it's inconvenient. We need real change, not just lip service .
omg can u believe this?? like what even is going on here?! police just gonna waltz into someones apartment without announcing themselves or trying 2 talk 2 them 1st? that's not de-escalation, dat's just straight up assault! and now they're actin all innocent like "oh we didn't mean 2 hurt him" nope, u guys meant 2 hurt him, cuz u didn't take the time 2 try and help him
i'm so sick of this cycle of violence against ppl with mental health issues. we need better training for law enforcement 4 real and more resources 4 our communities! can't we just get it together 4 once?! the fact that they're investigating this now is good i guess, but it's like, way too late
this is so worrying another black man taken away from us by the system and it's not just about the protocols or training what's really needed is for ppl to get their act together and actually listen to each other instead of relying on force. we need more resources invested in mental health support, especially in communities of color where these issues are already so prevalent and can't be ignored any longer
