Senate Dems Who Pushed Meatier ICE Reform Shy Away From Criticizing Schumer’s Softer Package

Several Democratic senators and Representatives in the House, who had previously called for more substantial reforms to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), have surprisingly kept quiet when asked about their party's latest proposal. This plan doesn't target DHS' core budget but instead includes several measures meant to curb alleged abuse by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

These plans were unveiled in a joint letter by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, which outlines 10 key demands for the agency. While most of these proposals align with progressive calls for reform, they also include some more conservative measures. For instance, prohibiting ICE agents from wearing masks or entering homes without a warrant would be seen as more moderate compared to efforts to claw back funding for these agencies.

The proposal has been met with resistance from Republicans in Congress, who have refused to engage on the plans. As a result, Schumer is unlikely to secure broad support for his party's demands and instead may have to settle for a smaller coalition of Democrats who are willing to support the proposals.

OMG, you guys 🤯, I'm like totally perplexed by these Dem senators & reps being all quiet about this new proposal 😒. I mean, they've been raking up ICE abuse and calling for reforms left & right, but now it's like they're suddenly MIA 🗣️? And can we talk about how weird it is that Schumer & Jeffries are trying to pass these proposals without any Republican buy-in 👀? Like, they're not even trying to reach out to their own party members? It's gonna be super challenging for them to get this passed without a majority 😬. I'm rooting for the Dem side, but it's looking like they might need to compromise & settle for some smaller wins 🤞.

I'm low-key surprised about this... I was expecting some major drama from both sides. But I guess you can't force people to work together, right? 🤔 It's like when our teachers try to get us to collaborate on group projects – we have to find common ground, even if it's not exactly what we want. Maybe Schumer's got a plan B or C up his sleeve that'll help him get some of these reforms passed? 📝 The fact that Republicans aren't engaging is pretty interesting tho... I bet our history teacher would love this example of how parties can sometimes just shut each other down. 😊

I'm kinda surprised about this one 🤔. I mean, I know there's been some pushback from Republicans, but it feels like the Dem senators and reps who were vocal about reforming DHS just kinda... dropped it 🔇? Like, what happened? Did they get cold feet or was it just a strategic move to make them look more reasonable? 🤷‍♂️ And honestly, I'm curious - are these proposals really that moderate? I mean, I love the idea of ICE agents not wearing masks in homes, but is that really enough? 😊 I guess we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out... and if Schumer can get some of those other Dem reps on board 🤞

🤔 I'm kinda surprised by all this backpedaling from those Dem senators and reps. They were all about reforming DHS just a few months ago, but now they're getting chill when it comes to actual policy changes 🙄. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cracking down on ICE abuse – it's messed up what these agents are capable of doing 💔. But at the same time, I can see how some of these proposals might be a bit too radical even for progressive minds 😅. And Republicans just aren't having it 🙄. I think Chuck Schumer is gonna have to find a way to win over more Democrats if he wants this thing to pass 🤞. Maybe someone should tell him that all's fair in love and politics 😜

🤔 I'm not buying it, you know? They're making these huge deals behind closed doors, but when it comes down to it, they're just going through the motions. The fact that Schumer and Jeffries can't even get some of their own party members on board is just wild 🙄. And what's with all this moderation? It feels like they're trying to make themselves look more palatable to Republicans, but at the end of the day, it's still all about politics 💸. I mean, come on, if you're gonna reform DHS, let's do it right! Don't give me any half-measures or watered-down plans 😒. The people are watching, and we deserve better 📺.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised that those Democratic senators & reps who were all about reforming DHS just went quiet on this one... they should be speaking up about their own party's proposal, ya know? 🤷‍♂️ It's like, if you're gonna advocate for change, you gotta be vocal about it. And I get that the plan has some more moderate measures, but still, it feels like they're kinda watering down the progress they were pushing for. 💦 They should've been clearer on what they want to see happen with DHS. It's a shame the Republicans aren't willing to engage on this... 🤝

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this 😕. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's great that we're having these conversations about reforming DHS, but can't our politicians at least have an open and honest discussion about their plans? It feels like they're hiding behind the scenes 🤐. And what's with the mixed signals? One day you're pushing for bigger reforms, the next day you're playing it safe with more moderate measures 💸.

I think this is a classic case of politicians playing to the middle and losing some of their own party's momentum ⚖️. It's like they're trying to appease everyone except themselves 😂. I just hope Schumer can find a way to make his proposal work without having to compromise too much on the things that matter most to him 🤞.

What's up with these politicians? They're supposed to be fighting for the people, but now they're playing it safe 🤔. I mean, come on, if you want real reform, you gotta take some risks and challenge the status quo. Not this watered-down stuff that's just a bunch of feel-good measures 🌈. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cracking down on ICE agents' abuse, but at what cost? It feels like they're more worried about maintaining their power than doing what's right 🔒. And the fact that Republicans are already resisting it? That's just a major bummer 😔. Can't we just have some real progress around here for once? 🙄

🤔 I'm thinking something fishy here... why would all these senators & reps just chill on speaking up about this proposal? It's like they're trying to keep it under wraps or somethin'. I mean, what if they don't really want to make any changes at DHS? What if they're just tryna keep the status quo and avoid rockin' the boat? 🚣‍♂️ The fact that some of these proposals are pretty moderate is also suspicious... it's like they're tryna appeal to both sides and get away with nothin'. And what about all the Republicans refusin' to engage on this? That just smells like a total blockage, if you ask me. 🤷‍♂️ Something fishy is goin' on here...

I think its crazy how some politicians can change their tune so fast 🤯. I mean, one day they're all about reforming DHS, the next day they're mum on the party's proposal 🙅‍♂️. I get it, politics is a game of compromise, but still, you'd expect them to at least throw some shade or make a statement 😒.

I'm kinda curious how Schumer plans to push through these demands without getting too much resistance from the GOP 🤔. I mean, Republicans aren't exactly known for being open to change, especially when it comes to immigration and law enforcement 🚫. Hopefully, he can find some common ground with the more moderate Dems who are on board with these proposals 🤞.

It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks and months 🔍. Will Schumer be able to rally enough support to make his proposal a reality? Only time will tell ⏰!

🤔 DHS reform plan seems like a step in right direction, but it's still pretty watered down 🌊. I mean, why can't they just cut funding for ICE altogether? Prohibiting agents from wearing masks or entering homes w/o warrants is a good start tho 💡. We need more transparency and accountability in these agencies. It's disappointing that Republicans aren't engaging on this, it's like they're trying to block progress 🚫. Can't wait to see how Schumer navigates this... 🤞

I'm so confused about this whole thing 🤷‍♀️... like why do they even have these parties in Congress if nobody's gonna talk about the big picture? I mean, I get that some people want to focus on ICE and stuff, but what's the point of having a Department of Homeland Security if it's just gonna be all secretive and weird? 🤔 And can someone explain why they can't wear masks at work? Like, is that really a thing now? 😂

I'm also thinking about my grandma and how she would've been so upset if this had happened during her time. She was always like "what's the world coming to?" whenever I told her about some new issue 🙄. Anyway, back to this... why can't Schumer just get everyone on the same page? It seems like he's stuck in the middle 🤷‍♂️.

Oh, and what's with all these demands? 10 key things? Like, is that even a real number? 😂 Can someone break it down for me?

🤔 I'm kinda surprised by this development, you know? One minute we're talking about some senators and reps jumping on the reform bandwagon, and the next thing you know they're all mum on the party's latest plan... 🤷‍♂️ Still, it's not like they're proposing anything crazy, right? I mean, they want to curb some abuse by ICE agents, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. But at the same time, there are some more moderate measures in there too. Like, who wouldn't want to see ICE agents wearing masks or having a warrant before entering your home? 😂 It's like, can we find some common ground on this one? I'm not sure what to make of the Republicans refusing to engage, but I guess that's just how politics works sometimes... 🤝

omg u guys its like they're not even trying anymore 🤯 DHS has been this broken system for years and now they're just gonna sit back & let the politicians play games with it? 🙄 i mean i get that some people want masks off the agents, but what about all the real abuse & corruption that's going on behind the scenes? shouldn't we be tackling that first? 🤷‍♀️ this proposal is so watered down its like they're just trying to pass the buck. 10 demands, but none of them are actually gonna make a difference in the long run 💔 i hope some of my reps are paying attention & not just going along with the status quo...

I'm still waiting for someone to bring up the elephant in the room - what about the ICE agents already working on the frontlines? We're talking about people dealing with real-life trauma, separating families & making life-or-death decisions every day 🤕. Prohibiting them from wearing masks or entering homes without a warrant feels like a Band-Aid solution at best. Can't we have a more nuanced discussion about how to support these agents while also addressing the systemic issues within DHS?

omg I'm low-key worried about this... like what if they don't pass these reforms at DHS? it's already so hard to navigate the immigration system as it is... my bestie's cousin's boyfriend was detained by ICE last year and it was a total nightmare for him 🤕🚔. I mean, can you imagine having to deal with those agents showing up at your door unannounced? it's just not right 🙅‍♀️. I hope Schumer's plan helps bring some much-needed changes to the agency, but if they don't get enough support from Democrats... it'll be a bummer 💔.

I think it's kinda weird that those Dem senators and reps are staying mum about this proposal 🤔... I mean, they were all like "we need more reform" just last year, now they're keeping quiet? 😐 It looks like their party's got a big divide right now. Some of these proposals seem pretty reasonable, but others feel like they're compromising too much 🤑. What really worries me is that Republicans aren't even willing to talk about it 🗣️... if the Dem party can't get broad support for this, it's gonna be hard to make any real changes 💔. Maybe Schumer and Jeffries should've been more transparent with their plan instead of releasing a joint letter 📝? Just a thought 👀

I'm kinda surprised by how quiet those Dem senators & reps are about this new proposal... I mean, they've been talking tough on DHS reform for ages 🤔. Now that it's their turn in the hot seat, they're just gonna sit there and wait for others to make a move? That doesn't seem like the most ideal strategy to me.

I do appreciate some of these proposals, though - like curbing ICE abuse, that's a no-brainer 💯. But some of the more conservative measures have got me wondering if we're really getting the kind of reform we need here. Like, wearing masks or entering homes without a warrant? That feels like just a Band-Aid on a deeper wound 🤕.

And yeah, I can see why Republicans are resistant to this - it's not gonna be an easy sell for them. But Schumer should've been more prepared for the pushback... now we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out 👀.

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s kinda weird that some Dem reps are keeping quiet about this proposal 🤔. Like, if they were all on board with it, wouldn’t they want to talk about it? Instead, they're just letting the party leaders handle it, which might not be the best idea, you know? And it's interesting that there are both progressive and more moderate ideas in this plan - some people might think it's a good starting point, but others might feel like it's not radical enough 🤑. I'm also wondering what would happen if Schumer can't get much support from his own party... will the proposal even make it to something? 🤷‍♂️
