SF Giants still looking to address several holes as Dodgers, Phillies make splashes

San Francisco Giants Remain Hunt for Critical Holes Amid Philly, Dodgers Splashes. The San Francisco Giants have made no significant moves to strengthen their roster this offseason, with manager Tony Vitello acknowledging that the team is looking to make improvements.

"We think it's a really fun roster," Vitello said. "It's almost got a parallel to a college team because it's high turnover with guys graduating or getting drafted. You've got a solid group of guys that are solidified... and then there's also open competition at several spots, whether it be on the position side or the pitching side."

The Giants' main priority is bolstering their starting rotation, which currently features Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Landen Roupp. President of baseball operations Buster Posey discussed the possibility of trading top prospect Bryce Eldridge, saying that the team "will listen" to offers.

"It's just going to be somewhat dependent on what our options are cost-wise, whether it's free agency or through the trade route," Posey said. "In a perfect world, you get as much pitching as you can."

The Giants have added outfielders Joey Wiemer and Justin Dean via trades and waivers, but they still have vacancies in their rotation, bullpen, and outfield. The team is expected to explore options at second base, where Casey Schmitt emerged as the starting second baseman last season.

However, Posey acknowledged that finding a reliable closer is difficult, saying "I think every team would love to have a lockdown closer but those are hard to come by."

Despite their lack of significant moves, the Giants are confident in their ability to strengthen their roster through trades and minor-league free agency. With Jeremy Shelley specializing in the minor-league free agent market, Posey pointed out that there are "guys down there that can probably pitch in different spots."

I feel like the Giants are trying to approach this offseason with a "let's see what happens" vibe 🤔... it's definitely a high-risk, high-reward strategy. They've got some solid pieces on their roster, but that bullpen spot is still looking pretty bare 🔴. I'm not sure how tough it is gonna be for them to find a reliable closer - every team wants one! 💪

Wow 🤔 the way they're approaching this offseason is kinda cool... I mean, they're not making huge moves but they're looking at all angles - trades, free agency, minor-leagues. It's like they want to be smart about it rather than splashing cash everywhere. And with Jeremy Shelley around, you never know what gems he might pick up! 💡

the giants' approach to the offseason is kinda like life itself - you gotta navigate the ups and downs, the twists and turns... they're not making any drastic changes, but they're still searching for that missing piece to make their roster truly shine 🤔. it's like trying to find your own purpose in life, sometimes you just gotta settle for what you've got and then look for ways to improve it. maybe they don't need a ton of stars to light up the field, but rather some solid contributors who can help them reach their full potential ⚾️.

I'm kinda surprised the Giants haven't made some bigger moves yet 🤔... they've got a solid starting lineup but their rotation is still kinda leaky 💧. I mean, with Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, and Landen Roupp on board, you'd think they'd be able to make some noise in free agency or trade market 🤑. Plus, the whole "graduating" thing with Bryce Eldridge... it's like he's just gonna get traded away 😐.

But, I guess that's the game of baseball, right? You've got to find guys who fit your system and not break the bank 💸. And hey, Jeremy Shelley is supposed to be able to sniff out some hidden gems in minor-league free agency 🕵️‍♂️. Fingers crossed they can pull off a trade or two before Spring Training starts ⚾️!

I'm a bit concerned about the Giants' strategy this offseason 🤔. They're not really making any big moves, which makes me wonder if they think their current guys will just magically become stars 💫. I mean, it's great that Tony Vitello likes his team, but sometimes you need to make some tough decisions to get ahead 🚀. And with the starting rotation being so weak, it's like they're setting themselves up for disaster 😬. But hey, maybe Buster Posey knows something I don't 🤑. It'll be interesting to see if they can actually pull off some trades and free agency signings 🔮.

Ugh, I'm so over these MLB teams not making any moves 🤦‍♂️! The Giants just seem to be playing the waiting game, and it's getting old. They're basically saying they don't need anyone else because their current roster is good enough... yeah right 😒. And what's up with the trade rumors? They're always talking about "listening" to offers but never actually making any moves. It feels like they're just trying to keep people guessing 🤔. I mean, come on guys! If you want a decent closer, don't be afraid to go out and get one! And what's with all the waiver claims? Can we just have some actual trades for once? 🚫

Idk about this trade situation... they're still searching for a reliable closer? That's like finding a needle in a haystack 🤔. I mean, what's the point of having all these prospects if you can't even get a decent bullpen together? And don't even get me started on Bryce Eldridge - are they really gonna trade him away that easily? I think it's gonna be tough to find someone who can step up and fill those critical holes...

I think they're being kinda too patient on signing those big name players. Like, yeah, a fun roster and all, but when you got guys like Logan Webb and Robbie Ray leading the charge, you gotta wanna make some noise with some big additions. But at the same time, I get what Buster's saying about it depending on the cost... they're not gonna give up too much for a guy unless they think he's a game-changer. And honestly, finding that one reliable closer is like finding a unicorn 🦄 - it just doesn't happen often! Maybe Jeremy Shelley can help sniff out some hidden gems in the minor leagues? 🤞

im thinkin the giants are playin it cool this offseason, just waitin for the right pieces to fall into place 🤔. they got a solid foundation with logan webb and robbie ray already on board, so now its all about findin that missing piece of the puzzle... maybe even lookin into some of those minors 📝. gotta give credit tho, buster posey is doin his thang, tryna find them reliable closers... but i think the real question is can they keep up with the dodgers and phils? 💥

I'm not sure I trust this "minor-league free agent" market thing 🤔. Like, what even is that? Is it legit or just a fancy way of saying guys who got cut from bigger teams are playing for peanuts 💸? And Jeremy Shelley's specialty is supposed to be finding these gems in the minor leagues, but I bet there's some shady business going on too 🤑. The Giants need real, top-tier talent to compete with Philly and Dodgers, not just some scrappy players trying to make a name for themselves 🔥.
