Shredded cheese sold at Walmart, Publix and other grocery stores recalled due to metal fragments

Major Grocery Store Chains Recalling Shredded Cheese Due to Metal Fragments

A massive recall has been issued for shredded cheese sold at several major grocery store chains, including Walmart and Publix. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that over 1 million bags of low-moisture part-skim mozzarella shredded cheese may contain metal fragments.

The recall affects products from Great Lakes Cheese Co., an Ohio-based company. The affected products include Italian-style shredded cheese blend, pizza-style shredded cheese blend, and other varieties. The recalled cheese was sold in 31 states, as well as Puerto Rico, between January and late March 2026.

The FDA has categorized the recall as "class II," which means that the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, although serious injuries are considered remote.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products should check their sell-by dates and immediately dispose of any cheese with metal fragments. The FDA recommends that consumers contact the store where they purchased the product to request a refund.

The list of brands affected by the recall includes several well-known grocery store chains, including Walmart's Great Value and Target's Good & Gather, as well as Publix and Aldi. Other brands, such as Brookshire's, Coburn Farms, and Food Club, are also included on the list.

While the FDA has not released any reports of serious injuries or illnesses related to this recall, consumers who have purchased the affected products should exercise caution when consuming the cheese.

omg u guys! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ can you imagine eating a chunk of metal?! ๐Ÿคฏ i've been thinking about how this recall happened and it's like... what even is quality control in the food industry? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ anyway, the thing that really gets me is that some stores are being super lax with their return policies ๐Ÿ™„ like, if you bought something that could potentially kill you and now it's "too late" to get a refund? no thanks! ๐Ÿšซ i'd rather pay for a new bag of cheese than risk my life ๐Ÿ’€ so yeah, let this be a lesson to all the stores out there: prioritize your customers' safety or get left behind ๐Ÿ’ธ

omg, like seriously?! ๐Ÿคฏ metal fragments in shredded cheese? that's just crazy talk! i mean, i'm all about being prepared and stuff, but this is just ridiculous. i hope nobody's gotten hurt from eating those cheesy bits ๐Ÿ™ anyway, i guess it's good that the FDA is on top of it and alerting us to the problem. i'm definitely gonna make sure to check my cheese before consuming it from now on... you can never be too careful, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚

omg what a huge mess! 1 million bags of shredded cheese with metal fragments? that's crazy ๐Ÿคฏ i mean i've seen some weird recalls in my time but this one takes the cake. i feel bad for all those ppl who bought it thinking it was safe to eat ๐Ÿค• at least the FDA is on top of it tho, getting ppl to return the product and get a refund sounds like a good plan ๐Ÿ’ธ

i'm just glad no serious injuries have been reported yet... fingers crossed that stays the case ๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta keep an eye out for those metal fragments when we're shopping for groceries ๐Ÿ›๏ธ i mean who knew shredded cheese could be so hazardous? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿคฏ just got a notification from my friend that she bought some shredded cheese from Walmart last week and it's part of the huge recall lol bad luck ๐Ÿšฎ, but I guess it's not all doom... at least the FDA is being proactive about it ๐Ÿ˜Œ. can't say that for every food recall, you know? ๐Ÿค” still gonna be on the lookout for metal fragments in my cheese though ๐Ÿ˜‚

OMG u guys!!! ๐Ÿคฏ I'm literally shaking rn because I just checked my fridge and I had like 3 bags of that exact shredded cheese from Great Lakes Cheese Co... what if I ate it?!?! ๐Ÿ˜จ I need to contact Walmart ASAP and get a refund, ASAP! This is insane! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ How could they mess up something so simple? And now I'm gonna be all paranoid about eating my snacks ๐Ÿคช Like, how many other people have this problem? Anyone else getting the recall email yet?!?! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

idk how can u just find metal fragments in ur shredded cheese lol what kinda quality control is that? ๐Ÿคฏ they need 2 do way better than this i mean i know accidents happen but this is just reckless, cant believe these big grocery stores r doing dis. and now ppl gotta waste their time checkin every bag of cheese like it's goin outta style. come on, get ur act together, big corps! ๐Ÿ˜’

Ugh, another food recall ๐Ÿคข! I mean, can't we just enjoy a simple bag of shredded mozzarella without worrying about metal fragments ruining our snack time? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I'm sure it's just a huge oversight on Great Lakes Cheese Co.'s part to include those tiny shards in their product. Still, I appreciate the FDA for stepping in and warning us about this potential health risk ๐Ÿ™. I guess it's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to food safety ๐Ÿ’ฏ. Can't wait to see what else 2026 brings... hopefully no more recalls! ๐Ÿ˜…

Ugh, can you even believe it? ๐Ÿคฏ They're putting metal in our food and then just recalling it like it's no big deal. I mean, what kinda quality control is that? 1 million bags of cheese with tiny metal pieces floating around? It's a miracle nobody got hurt yet ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. And the list of affected brands is crazy long - I've been buying my groceries from Walmart for years and now I'm wondering if all those Great Value products were safe ๐Ÿค”. I guess it's good that they're taking responsibility and offering refunds, but still, how did this happen? ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿคฏ just found out that my fave snack, shredded cheese, is being recalled lol what's up with metal fragments in our food?! i remember buying a big ol' bag of it at Walmart like 2 weeks ago and it was fine... but now i'm checking my sell-by dates every 5 seconds ๐Ÿ˜…. anyway, glad the FDA is taking action tho - we gotta prioritize our safety first ๐Ÿ™. also, can you imagine eating pizza without shredded cheese? noooo just kidding, but seriously, this recall is a good reminder to always check those labels and be cautious with food purchases ๐Ÿค”.

Ugh, I was so looking forward to snacking on some pizza nights with my shredded mozzarella... now I'm stuck checking the sell-by dates for every bag ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. 1 million bags? That's crazy! I hope no one got hurt from eating these metal fragments ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Walmart and Publix should really double-check their quality control, ya know? ๐Ÿค” And what's up with these class II recalls? "Temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences" sounds like a whole lotta drama ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. Anyway, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry... anyone else got a product from Great Lakes Cheese Co.?

omg u gotta be careful w/ that shredded cheese!!! i mean i know it sounds crazy but like 1 mil bags could contain metal fragments lol can u imagine?? my mom just got a call from walmart saying they're recalling some of their great value stuff and she's already freaking out ๐Ÿคฏ we should totes check our own cheese and be safe than sorry ๐Ÿ’ช

omg u guys!! ๐Ÿคฏ just heard about this massive recall on shredded cheese and i'm SHOOK ๐Ÿคฏ like what even is metal in cheese lol?! anyway gotta be safe so ill def check my fridge for any of these suspect cheeses ๐Ÿง€๐Ÿšซ anyone else get the recall alert? think we should all just err on the side of caution rn and return anything shady ๐Ÿ“ฆ๐Ÿ’ธ

Ugh, this is so frustrating! ๐Ÿคฏ I just bought a bunch of shredded cheese from Walmart last week and now I'm having second thoughts about eating it ๐Ÿ˜ท. I mean, 1 million bags with metal fragments? That's crazy! ๐Ÿ’ฃ What if someone has already eaten some and isn't feeling right? ๐Ÿค• I've been using this brand for ages and I always thought it was safe to use... I guess you never really know what's going on behind the scenes ๐Ÿค”. I'm definitely going to check my cheese and return anything that might be contaminated ๐Ÿ’ธ. The FDA should've caught this earlier, it just goes to show how unpredictable things can get in the food industry ๐Ÿšจ.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't catch this earlier... like a metal fragment in shredded cheese? ๐Ÿคฏ It's just one of those weird things that can happen. I think it's good that the FDA is taking care of it and letting consumers know, but also, like, why wasn't this checked before shipping out the product? ๐Ÿค” Was it just an oversight or was there something else going on?

Anyway, I hope no one got hurt by eating the cheese... that would be pretty messed up ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I'm gonna make sure to check my shelves and toss any suspicious-looking cheese. Might as well be safe than sorry, right? ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Ugh, that's so frustrating! ๐Ÿค• I was planning to make a big pasta dish for my family tonight and I had just picked up that shredded mozzarella from Walmart. Now I'm like "no way!" ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Glad they're taking this seriously though. Anyone else gotten a sudden urge to check their fridge? ๐Ÿงน Just want to make sure everyone's safe, you know? ๐Ÿค—

Ugh, this is just great! Metal fragments in shredded cheese? ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, what's next? Metal shavings in your breakfast cereal? It's just crazy that they let it get out there for so long and didn't catch it until now. And now we're stuck dealing with the aftermath, checking every bag of cheese before we even open it... it's just so frustrating! ๐Ÿ™„ I'm actually really mad at Walmart and Publix for not being more proactive about this recall. They should've been on top of it from day one. Anyway, make sure to check your stuff and be careful, folks! ๐Ÿ˜’

omg just saw this news lol 1 million bags of shredded cheese with metal fragments?! that's crazy how did they even miss those tiny pieces? anyway i'm glad they're issuing recalls and refunds hopefully people aren't too hurt by it ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿง€๐Ÿšจ

๐Ÿ˜’ This is so fishy! I mean, what's really going on here? We're talking about a massive recall of shredded cheese, and suddenly we find out that there are metal fragments in it? ๐Ÿค” It just doesn't add up, you know? And all these big-name grocery stores getting affected... it smells like some kind of conspiracy to me. What if this is more than just a simple manufacturing defect? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Maybe someone's trying to control our food supply or something. I'm not saying that's what's going on, but you can't rule out the possibility, right? ๐Ÿ’ก

Ugh, great, just what I needed - more reasons to be paranoid about food safety ๐Ÿคฃ... A million bags of shredded cheese with metal fragments? That's just peachy. And to make matters worse, it's not like we're going to get a heads up from the FDA when these products hit the shelves. "Hey, it's probably fine" - that's what they'll be saying, right? ๐Ÿ™„ I mean, who needs labels or packaging that says "handle with care"? More like "handle at your own risk". Seriously though, can't we just have one safe food product for once?! ๐Ÿ˜’
