Rep. Shri Thanedar Files Articles of Impeachment Against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Over Controversial Comments and Orders.
U.S. Representative Shri Thanedar has filed articles of impeachment against U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, citing his involvement in issuing orders that put lives at risk and mishandling classified information. The move comes after Hegseth allegedly directed the killing of everyone on a Venezuelan drug smuggling boat in September and discussed potential attacks on Yemen in a group chat in March.
Thanedar described Hegseth as "uniquely unqualified" to serve as Secretary of Defense, stating that his actions put American servicemembers and their families in danger every day. He also accused Hegseth of violating the Defense Department's Law of War Manual by giving direct, unlawful orders on civilian boats, resulting in potential loss of life.
Moreover, Thanedar alleged that Hegseth mishandled classified information by leaking sensitive operations details, including target systems and attack times, through a Signal chat. This, according to Thanedar, put American lives at risk and made it clear that Hegseth cannot be trusted with the nation's defense secrets.
Thaneder announced the articles of impeachment during a rally in Washington D.C. last Thursday. The move is seen as an attempt to hold Hegseth accountable for his actions and ensure that he no longer poses a threat to American lives.
This is not the first time Thanedar has taken aim at a Trump administration official. In April, he filed seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, accusing him of corruption, freedom of speech violations, obstruction of justice, and other high crimes and misdemeanors.
