Snow, ice and subzero temperatures to sweep across US this weekend

Deadly Blizzard Looms Over Millions as Frigid Storm Battered East Coast

A powerful winter storm is poised to blanket nearly two-thirds of the country with a toxic mix of snow, ice, and subzero temperatures this weekend, putting over 200 million people at risk. As the polar vortex strengthens, a massive low-pressure system will sweep across the US from southwest to east coast, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

The storm's impact will be felt across nearly two decades of major cities, including Dallas, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Nashville, St Louis, Indianapolis, Louisville, Charlotte, Norfolk, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York. The Great Lakes and New England will also bear the brunt of the storm, with some areas potentially seeing over a foot of snow.

The forecast warns of prolonged power outages, as the sheer force of the storm could snap trees and power lines, leading to hazardous travel conditions on highways and even more treacherous roadways. Residents in the storm's path have been advised to stock up on essentials, including food, water, and medications, as gusty winds of 20-30mph could exacerbate the situation.

As the storm reaches its peak on Sunday, roughly half of the US population will be experiencing snow, sleet, or freezing rain simultaneously. The extreme cold tied to this system is particularly alarming, with temperatures in parts of the Midwest, Great Lakes, and New England plummeting to below -30F.

The convergence of frigid air from the polar vortex and moisture from both the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico will create a perfect storm, unleashing heavy precipitation and leaving millions without power. Defense department meteorologist Eric Webb warned that this winter storm "contains a ridiculous amount of snow/ice," setting the stage for one of the most powerful storms of the season.

Cities such as Denver, Albuquerque, Wichita, and Oklahoma City are expected to bear the brunt of the storm's wrath first, before expanding eastward through the weekend. The system will linger along the East Coast until early next week, posing a significant threat to millions of Americans.

man this is crazy! like 200 million ppl at risk? that's insane 🀯 they need to get prepared ASAP stock up on food water meds and all that. i'm worried about the power grid too, all that ice and snow could cause some major issues. and the temps are going to be -30f? brrr πŸ˜‚ like whoa. gotta keep an eye on this storm and hope everyone stays safe πŸ™

omg this storm is gonna be EPIC 🀯😬 i mean who needs that kinda cold anyway? but seriously ppl gotta be prepared stock up on food and water and all that jazz πŸ’¦πŸ΄ my heart goes out to those in the storm's path though, stay safe everyone!!! 😊

I don’t usually comment but... this blizzard is sounding super intense 🌨️! I mean, 200 million people at risk? That's a lot of folks who need to stock up on essentials and prepare for the worst ❄️. The idea that gusty winds could exacerbate the situation is really scary - I hope everyone stays safe and warm during this storm 😬. And wow, temperatures plummeting to below -30F in some areas? That's just crazy cold ❄️. Can't wait to see how this all plays out over the weekend πŸ•°οΈ. Fingers crossed that the worst is behind us by Monday 🀞.

Ugh man, this is gonna be bad πŸŒͺ️! I feel for all those people in the storm's path, gotta stock up on supplies and be prepared for the worst. Power outages are no joke, especially with 20-30mph winds causing damage to trees and power lines. It's like they say, be safe and warm this weekend πŸ˜ŠπŸ’‘

omg this is gonna be insane ! like 200 million ppl affected by snow n ice n subzero temps? that's crazy! i'm dreading it already πŸŒ¨οΈπŸ˜“ think the gov should do more to warn ppl about the storm, like what's up with no emergency alerts or anything? and what's w/ the power grid not being prepared for this? it's like they're saying "oh no, another blizzard" lol get ur act together, america! πŸ’₯

omg this blizzard is gonna be HUGE 🀯 200 million ppl at risk is crazy talk! i'm low-key worried about all the power outages and how it's gonna affect traffic πŸš—πŸ’¨. cities like NYC and DC are always super prepared but what about smaller towns and rural areas? they're probably gonna get hit hard too ❄️. defense dept says it's a "ridiculous amount of snow" lol i guess that's one way to put it πŸ˜‚. hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend β˜•οΈβ„οΈπŸ’ͺ

This is getting serious... 200 million people at risk? That's crazy! I'm not saying we should panic or anything, but it's gonna be a long weekend for sure 🀯. The forecast sounds like it's predicting some pretty nasty weather - prolonged power outages, hazardous travel conditions... all that jazz. I do hope everyone is prepared with the essentials, you know, food, water, meds... can't stress that enough.

I'm also a bit worried about the infrastructure holding up. Power lines snapping, trees falling everywhere... that's a recipe for disaster. But at the same time, it's not like we haven't seen this before, right? The polar vortex thing is just getting more intense every year, and I'm sure our cities will be ready to deal with it.

Still, 20-30mph gusts could make things worse... that's some nasty wind. I guess only time will tell how bad it gets. Fingers crossed for everyone in the storm's path!

Ugh, can't believe we're in this again πŸ€•! I'm all about preparedness, but it's getting crazy out there, especially for those on the East Coast ❄️. 200 million people? That's a lot of risk... my heart goes out to the seniors and folks with medical conditions who might be super vulnerable during these extreme weather events πŸ’‰.

Power outages are always the worst 😩 - I mean, what even is that?! Can't we just have reliable energy for once?! And it's not just about us as individuals; think about all the workers, families, and communities who'll be affected by this massive storm 🀝. We need to support each other during these times.

I'm also kinda worried about our nation's infrastructure - I mean, how are we gonna deal with all that snow and ice? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ It's a great reminder of the importance of investing in our public services and emergency preparedness systems πŸ’Έ.

u no wat's up w/ dis? a blizzard thats gonna hit like 200 million ppl & its not even close 2 b a good thing 🌨️😬 i mean, who needs dat kinda weather? power outages, roads closed, ppl stuck w/out heat or food... sounds like a real fun time πŸ’€πŸ€• and it'snt just the usa either, canada nd europe are gettin hit too. cant wait 4 dem to have 2 deal w/ dis mess πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ

🌨️ this is gonna be bad... i'm not sure why we even get surprised by snow every year, it's like our weather forecasters are trying to outdo each other in a game of "who can make the most dire predictions" 🀣 but seriously though, 200 million people are gonna be affected? that's crazy. and the idea that half the country will experience snow, sleet, or freezing rain at the same time is just... woah. i hope everyone stockpiles those essentials 'cause it's gonna get ugly out there πŸ’ΈπŸŒͺ️

oh man this is gonna be bad 🀯! i cant believe we're looking at over 200 million people in the storm's path... that's like half the country!!! ❄️ snow and ice everywhere, no power for days... my grandma lives in memphis and she's always been worried about these kinds of storms... hope everyone stays safe πŸ’•

ugh this sounds like a massive disaster 200 million ppl at risk is crazy 🀯 i hope everyone takes this seriously and prepares for the worst 🚨 power outages can be so bad especially with all the cold weather expected πŸ’‘ stock up on food water meds and stay safe ppl 🌟

omg this blizzard is gonna be bad 🌨️... like 200 mil ppl are at risk lol that's crazy! i dont wanna be in dallas or okc this wknd either, 20-30mph winds? no thanks πŸ˜‚ gotta stock up on essentials tho, cant have ppl freezing out there. defense deparment guy said it contains a lot of snow/ice... like duh, didnt he see the forecast lol 🀣 anyway, half us population experiencing snow, sleet or freezing rain on sunday? that's just insane 🀯 gotta stay safe and all that πŸ’‘

I'm totally sure this blizzard is gonna be the worst one in ages 🀯 but at the same time I'm like "meh" it's just another winter storm, right? 200 million people are gonna get slammed with snow and ice and stuff... that sounds super bad πŸŒͺ️ BUT on the other hand, we've been through this before like five times already and nobody died or anything πŸ˜… so maybe it'll be a non-event? I mean, what's the worst that could happen, right? The power's gonna go out and some people might be snowed in for a bit... big deal πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Ugh, another one of those super powerful winter storms rolling in 🌨️😬... I mean, I get it, Mother Nature's got her own thing going on, but can't we just have a mild winter for once? It's like, I'm tired of shoveling snow and dealing with power outages. And don't even get me started on the roads – I swear, it's like they're trying to make driving look like a death sport πŸ’€.

And 200 million people?! That's just crazy 🀯... I mean, I know we've got a big country, but can't we just be prepared for this stuff? I'm all for stocking up on essentials and whatnot, but come on, folks! We should be better than this 😊. And the fact that it's gonna last until early next week? That's just cruel πŸ€ͺ.

I guess it's good that the Defense Department is giving us a heads up about this one ⚠️... I mean, at least we know what to expect, right? But still, can't we just have a nice, quiet winter instead of a never-ending series of blizzards and power outages πŸ™„. Oh well, I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes 😐.

Ugh, great πŸ™„, just what we needed, another reason to stay indoors and binge-watch Netflix all weekend 😴. A massive blizzard that's gonna ruin everything? Sounds like a total bummer ❄️. I mean, 200 million people? That's like, half the country 🀯. And let me guess, the power will be out for days, right? Because who needs functional roads or basic necessities when you've got snow and ice to deal with? πŸ˜’ The forecast is literally predicting "devastation" πŸ˜‚... more like a fun-filled weekend of shoveling snow and scraping ice off your car windshield β˜ƒοΈ. Bring it on, I guess πŸ™„.
