South Carolina death row inmate Stephen Bryant’s last meal revealed before he’s executed by firing squad

South Carolina has executed a man by firing squad for the third time this year, with three prison employees volunteering to carry out the execution. The inmate, 44-year-old Stephen Bryant, was pronounced dead at 6:05 pm on Friday. This is the first time a federal appeals court had blocked the use of the firing squad in executions since South Carolina reinstated it as an option in 2018.

Bryant's last meal consisted of a bucket of fried chicken, red velvet cake for dessert, and a 2-liter Coca-Cola. The decision to execute Bryant was made by South Carolina officials on Wednesday, after his lawyers filed a notice of appeal with the US Supreme Court.

The use of the firing squad has been met with controversy in recent years, as some have raised concerns about its constitutionality. However, in 2018, the state reinstated it as an option for executions, citing the need for more humane methods of execution.

man this is crazy stuff 🤯 like whats next they execute someone just cuz their lawyer tries to appeal?? i get that justice needs to be served but dont we still have a system in place for that?? and fried chicken and red velvet cake as his last meal? thats wild lol imagine enjoying those things one last time before... anyway, i think its sad that they had to use the firing squad again, its just so outdated 🚫. i feel bad for the dude who carried out the execution, like he was put in a pretty tough spot 🤕

I'm not totally sure if this is a good idea, you know? I mean, three times this year already and people are still worried about its constitutionality... 🤔. But at the same time, I get where they're coming from - wanting to try alternative methods that might be more humane. Still, there's gotta be some doubt about whether firing squads really are more humane than other methods. And what's up with the bucket of fried chicken and red velvet cake? That's just not exactly... I don't know, very sympathetic or anything. 🍗🎂.

I gotta say, I'm just really disappointed in this whole thing. I mean, I get that SC wants to reinstate firing squad as a method of execution, but is it really worth going back to something so harsh and barbaric? 🤕 I was talking to my friend from the wrong side of the tracks and they were like "what's the difference between life and death?" and it hit me, we're still debating that in 2025? It feels like progress is just a myth. And what really gets me is how some ppl are gonna say "oh well, he killed someone" but let's not forget, we all make mistakes and we should be tryin to rehabilitate people, not just kill 'em outright 💔.

man this is just so sad 🤕 i dont think we should be executing people anymore, it's like we're taking away a human life without even giving them a second chance... and to make matters worse they were gonna have 3 volunteer "executers" lol what kinda vibe is that supposed to send? anyway, the last meal was straight up weird fried chicken and coke lol who does that?! 🍗🥤

I don't think it's right that they're using firing squad again 🤔. I mean, can't they just use lethal injection like everyone else? It's not fair to make three people volunteer to carry out an execution... that's just crazy! And what's up with the food choices for his last meal? Fried chicken and red velvet cake? 😂 That's definitely a unique combo. I feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, you can't help but wonder if there are better ways to handle the situation. 🤷‍♂️

Man, this whole firing squad thing is just wild 🤯. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to bring back something that's been on life support since the Wild West days? It's like they're trying to make a statement about being "tough" or something 😂. Newsflash: it's not cool, SC. The fact that three prison employees just volunteered to do this is just mind-blowing... in a bad way 🤪. And what's up with the bucket of fried chicken and Coca-Cola for his last meal? Like, is he trying to make a commentary on American excess or something? 🍗🥤 It's all just really, really weird, you know?

man... this is wild 🤯 I mean, who volunteers to do a firing squad execution? like, what's going on with these people? are they trying to set a record or something? 😂 and fried chicken for last meal? that's just weird. doesn't say much about their taste in food, you know? and the fact that they reinstated this method back in 2018... I'm not saying it's bad or anything, but is it really necessary? can't we just stick to traditional methods of execution like lethal injection? i mean, it's not like we haven't tried that before and had problems 🤷‍♂️

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole firing squad thing 🤯. Like, I get that some people think it's a better alternative than other methods, but I just don't understand why we're even having this conversation 🤔. It seems so barbaric and outdated 😕. And what really gets me is that these prison employees who volunteered to do the execution, they did it without any pay or compensation? That just sounds like a recipe for disaster to me 💸. I mean, can't we just stick with something more humane and less... complicated 🤷‍♂️?

ugh I dont get why we still have to resort to this method lol 🤯 like whats the point of even using the firing squad?! its so brutal and outdated 🚫 the last meal he got was bucket of fried chicken 🍗 idk what kinda sickos think that's a good combo with red velvet cake 😂 and 2-liter coke?! anyway back to the main thing... i feel bad for stephen bryant and his fam but at the same time its hard not to be like whats next? another state gonna start using this method or something 🤔

man this is just crazy 🤯 i mean what's next? firing squads are back on and people are actually like yeah let's do this 😒 i get that south carolina wants to explore other options but have they considered the emotional toll it takes on families and friends of the inmates? all these years we're talking about humane methods but then you execute someone and its like what even is humane anymore 🤷‍♂️ at least his last meal was a bucket of fried chicken lol but seriously its just so much to take in.

Man, this South Carolina thing is wild 🤯. Firing squad executions are already super rare, so for them to do it three times a year is just crazy 💥. And can you believe they chose 3 prison employees to carry it out? Like, aren't they worried about some rogue cop or something going rogue? 😬 And the last meal he got was just chillin' on some fried chicken and Coke 🍗🥤...I mean I guess that's better than nothing, right? 🤷‍♂️ It's just crazy how the US is still grappling with these old-school execution methods. Don't get me wrong, I think they should rethink this whole thing, but at the same time, you gotta respect the people who are going through it and their families 👊

Man, this is just wild. They actually got three prison employees to volunteer to do a firing squad execution? That's crazy talk! You gotta wonder what's going on in those people's heads... I mean, it's not like they're getting paid a lot extra or anything for the "honor" of being part of it 😂. And seriously, who thought this was a good idea to bring back firing squads as an execution method? It's just so old-school and barbaric. Can't we just stick with something more... modern? 💀 Anyway, I guess that's what happens when you try to outsmart the law and stuff... not like it's gonna stop people from trying again 🤷‍♂️.

🤯 just can't believe another life lost like this... firing squad is such a barbaric method, you'd think we'd moved beyond that by now 😔 anyway, gotta wonder what's really going on behind the scenes in SC, all 3 prison employees volunteering for the execution thingy, no idea if they were coerced or just genuinely willing to carry it out 🤷‍♂️ seems like a recipe for disaster, hope there aren't any more mishaps like this... 🕊️

idk why ppl still support this lol... firing squad sounds like a video game or something 😂 anyway, i think its kinda messed up that they had to use like 3 ppl to do it. doesnt seem right to me 🤔 also, fried chicken and coke as the last meal? seems kinda weird for someone who's about to die... 🍗🥤
