Spotify Wrapped is taking over our feeds, but you don't have outsource your relationship with music to AI | Liz Pelly

I'm getting so tired of these year-end list things on Spotify 🤯. It's not just about creating a playlist anymore, it's about letting algorithms dictate your musical memories. I mean, think about it - we're handing over our personal taste in music to some machine that doesn't even understand the context behind it. It's like outsourcing our emotions and experiences to a computer program 🤖.

I'm not saying I don't love discovering new music or finding common ground with friends over playlists, but when it becomes so simplified and data-driven, I lose interest. Where's the creativity? The soul? The connection that comes from sharing our own lists and stories? I think we're sacrificing too much of ourselves to these corporate playlists.

It's not just about Spotify Wrapped either - it's about how corporations are pushing cognitive offloading with AI-driven products and what it means for our relationships and experiences. It's like, don't get me wrong, convenience is cool and all, but at what cost? We need to be mindful of the value we place on thinking and creativity over just having everything processed for us.

So yeah, I'm gonna create my own year-end list, the old-fashioned way 📝. Maybe I'll write it down by hand, or share it with friends who actually understand me. It may require some effort, but at least I'm taking control of what matters most - my musical connections and memories that are uniquely mine 💭.
