Subway trains on the L line covered in filth after MTA car washer breaks down

New York's Subway Suffers from Filth as MTA Car Washer Breaks Down

For months now, the L line subway trains have been leaving riders with a bad taste in their mouths. The main culprit behind this grime is none other than the MTA car washer at its Canarsie train yard in Brooklyn that broke down during a summer storm and won't be operational until next year.

The issue lies not only in the exterior of the cars, but also on the interiors. While cleaners are still able to scrub away the interior dirt and grime, the outside is in an abhorrent state due to the busted washing station. The windows leak black grime and some are covered in dusty handprints while one train even had coffee stains on its side.

Riders have taken notice of the squalid conditions, prompting many to avoid taking this line altogether. According to Gabriella Hermalyn, who has chosen to take the G train over the L, "It's horrible that our public transportation is in such a condition." New Yorkers are accustomed to a certain level of grime due to soot and rats, but even by those standards, the state of these trains is shocking.

Commuters are outraged by the MTA's lack of action. Taino Brigs stated, "I know it's tough to keep these things clean, but they're dirtier than they should be." This sentiment is echoed by many who are fed up with paying more and more for their subways while receiving less in terms of cleanliness.

The agency has acknowledged the problem, stating that there is no other way to clean the cars until the Canarsie washing station is repaired. It won't be fixed until next year, which will undoubtedly further inconvenience commuters who are already facing increased subway fares.

ugh I feel so bad for people on the L line they gotta deal with that gross grime on their train 🤢 and it's not just the outside either i mean have you seen those train ads where everyone is like smiling and happy but really they're stuck on a dirty train 😂 anyway what's up with the MTA not having a backup plan for their car washer? like shouldn't they be all prepared for emergencies or something 🤔 and btw has anyone tried that new coffee shop in Brooklyn that just opened up?

I'm tellin' ya... this is just ridiculous 🤯! Back in my day (yes, I know I'm old 😅), the subways were always dirty, but at least they had that "New York" charm to 'em - you knew it was gonna be a real adventure. Now, with all these fancy-schmancy trains and stations, we expect the MTA to keep 'em spotless? Please 🙄.

It's like they're takin' us for fools. We pay our taxes, we put up with the crowds, and this is how they repay us? Filthy trains? No way, man... that's just not right 😡. I remember when you could actually see yourself in the mirror on the train - nowadays it's like lookin' into a dirty funhouse mirror 🤪.

I'm all for cleanin' up the city, but not at the expense of our trusty subways. We need better, MTA... just get it together, ya know? 💪

ugh 🤯 I mean come on! $3 a ride or whatever and we're getting filthy trains? I know the MTA's gotta fix the canarsie washer ASAP, but shouldn't they've anticipated this kinda thing happening? I'm not saying they shoulda prepared for a storm, but like, basic maintenance checks, right? 🤦‍♂️ And what's up with all these coffee stains on trains? Are people just gonna start drinking coffee on the go or something? 🍵 It's not that hard to clean, guys! I get it, the washer broke down and all, but the commuters are already getting fleeced (increased fares), so now we're stuck with dirty trains? That's just not right 😒

🤦‍♂️ I feel like we're stuck in a never-ending loop here. We pay our fair share for the subway and expect some level of cleanliness, but it's just not happening. I'm so sick of people avoiding the L train because they don't want to get on a dirty train. Like, I get it, it's gross, but can we please find a way to make it work until the washing station is fixed? It's not like we're asking for a spa experience down there. And btw, coffee stains? That's just sad 🍵😒

🤦‍♂️ I mean come on, the MTA needs to step up its game! A broken car washer in Brooklyn isn't exactly a shocker, but the fact that it's been down for months is what's really problematic. And don't even get me started on the state of those trains... I mean, I know rats and soot are part of the NYC experience, but not this level? It's like they're trying to make riders feel like they're riding a dirty bus or something 😷.

And let's talk about the commuters who have to deal with this. I get it, things break down and stuff gets out of whack, but shouldn't there be a plan in place for when that happens? It seems like the MTA is just winging it and expecting everyone else to deal with the consequences 🤦‍♂️.

I'm all for fairness, so if we're paying more for our subways, shouldn't they at least have decent conditions? It's not too much to ask, right? 💁‍♀️

🚫😷 The MTA needs to step up its game or risk losing customers like me. We're not just paying for a service, we're paying for a safe and clean environment. 🌎💨 This is unacceptable. I'd rather take the bus than deal with this mess every day. 💔

ugh i know how frustrating it is when things dont work out... like i remember last year when my old laptop died on me and i had to spend a whole day at the mtc repair shop waiting for them to fix it 🤦‍♂️. anyway, i think its wild that the mta car washer broke down and now the l line trains are all dirty and gross... like who needs coffee stains on the side of a subway train lol? but seriously, commuters are right to be upset that they're paying more for their subways while getting less cleanliness. i take the f train and it's always so much cleaner than the l line... maybe its time for the mta to step up their cleaning game? 🚮💪

omg what's with all the grime on the subway trains? i swear i was just on the L line last week and it looked like a trash can in there 🚮💩 why cant they fix the car washer or something? i take the F train usually but now idk if ill switch to the G train too lol. and dont even get me started on the price increases, like whats the point of paying more if its just gonna be gross 🤑😒
