I'm loving this recent rewatch of "Sunset Boulevard"

I mean, who wouldn't be fascinated by Gloria Swanson's iconic performance as Norma Desmond? The way she just owns that role is still giving me chills to this day

It's crazy how the film holds up even after all these years - it feels like a snapshot of Hollywood's darker side during its golden era, but also a cautionary tale about the dangers of idolization and nostalgia.
I think what really draws you in is Norma's character arc, from delusional madness to this tragic, heartbreaking realization

It's like, we get it, she was a star, but that doesn't mean she has to be stuck in the past. And Joe Gillis, William Holden's character, is just so relatable - who hasn't felt like they're chasing their dreams and getting caught up in someone else's ego trip?
And oh man, that final scene is still giving me goosebumps

Billy Wilder knew how to craft a film that would leave you feeling unsettled long after the credits roll. I'm not surprised it remains one of his greatest achievements - "Sunset Boulevard" just keeps getting better and better with each watch
