Swedish holiday market set for Dec. 6 in South Philly

Philadelphians can deck the halls and indulge in Scandinavian flair this holiday season at the American Swedish Historical Museum's Lucia and Christmas Market. Taking place on December 6th and 7th in a festive outdoor tent at FDR Park, the market promises to be a merry mashup of traditional foods, handmade goods, and nostalgic treats.

Visitors can stroll through the cozy market stalls, browsing an array of vendors selling authentic Scandinavian delicacies like pickled herring and gingerbread. Regional artisans will also be on hand, peddling everything from intricately carved wooden ornaments to hand-woven woolen scarves. A unique twist on traditional shopping is Mormor's Attic, a second-hand sale featuring vintage and one-off items that are sure to delight.

To satisfy hunger and thirst, the market will feature SWEA Philadelphia's baked goods, as well as a Swedish Christmas CafΓ© serving up lunch dishes and sweet treats. Meanwhile, folk duo Last Chance will keep the festive atmosphere alive with live holiday music throughout the weekend.

The Lucia performances, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day, promise to be an unforgettable experience. Featuring traditional Swedish songs and dances performed by children, followed by the iconic Lucia procession down the museum steps, these events are sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Admission prices range from $5 for kids aged 5-12 to $10 for non-members and free for under-fives. The market is open both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering visitors a chance to combine shopping with museum admission at an affordable price.

It's like they're takin' all the cozy feels of Sweden and bringin' 'em right to Philly. And can you believe there's even a second-hand sale called Mormor's Attic? That's just like my grandma used to do, declutterin' her attic and findin' old treasures 🧡.

And I'm lovin' the idea of gettin' all nostalgic with some traditional Swedish treats like pickled herring and gingerbread. It's like a taste of childhood memories. Plus, live music from Last Chance is just what we need to get those holiday spirits flyin' high! The only thing that'd make it better is if they had some hot cocoa vendors, but I guess that's just a pipe dream 😊. Anyway, sounds like a great way to spend the holidays, and I'm def checkin' it out πŸŽ…

Ugh, can you believe how crowded this is gonna get? I swear, Philadelphians love Christmas markets so much they're practically suffocating the city's poor holiday spirit... like it needs another reason to get crowded πŸ€―πŸŽ…οΈ. And what's with all these overpriced Swedish delicacies? Pickled herring, really? Give me a break! πŸ˜‚

But, I gotta admit, Mormor's Attic sounds kinda cool. Scouring through vintage stuff can be pretty fun. And the Lucia performances sound amazing – who doesn't love some festive tunes and dances πŸŽΆπŸ•Ί. The Swedish Christmas CafΓ© is also looking pretty tasty... wish they had gingerbread cookies! 🍞️

I guess it's all worth it for a good old-fashioned festivity vibe, though 😊. Just hope I can get a decent selfie with the Lucia procession without getting trampled by screaming kids and crazy-enthusiastic parents 🀣

Ugh, Scandinavian fest everywhere this season 🀯 I mean, I love the holiday spirit, but can't we just have one Christmas market for once? It's gonna be so crowded and touristy... πŸ˜’ And what's with all the second-hand shopping? Mormor's Attic sounds like my grandma's attic, you know? πŸ§΅πŸ‘΅ Too many vintage items to sift through. Can I just get some good ol' fashioned Christmas cookies without all the frills? πŸͺπŸ˜‚
